Was harder than soloing with a Rogue, as most would imagine. Fights that start of as ambushes  were especially problematic without stealth. There was a different difficulty curve compared to the Rogue, which starts of very hard and gets easier and easier with levels, especially after you get combat stealth.

I have Stone Prisoner but not Warden's Keep. Starting off, it's similar in difficulty to the Rogue. At level 7, you can have enough strength to wear Blood Dragon Armor, at which point I was still in Lothering. That makes a big difference and almost feels like cheating. At around level 12-13, monsters catch back up to you gear-wise and you don't feel so durable as when you were first able to wear Blood Dragon. At this level, you also really feel the lack of spell resistance, since you can't just sneak up on a caster and take him out before he can do anything with stuns and backstabs.

By around level 15-16 I was able to acquire enough spell resistance gear to not fear casters as much anymore and my attack and damage became such that I could 2 shot weaker mobs with 1 Sunder and things started to become easier. From there on, it was a smooth ride and things only got better.

Some people didn't believe and asked for screenshots, so here they are:

Clearing bandits in Denerim, these can be harder for a solo melee character with no stealth than boss fights.

Thank you. I gotta admit, that Flemeth one is pretty sweet... right on the finishing blow AND resisted the enemy's special move. XD

Character Sheet post coronation. I have 99% and not 100% damage, because the self-damage from Aura of Pain counts as party damage for some reason.

That is awesome I honestly doubt I could ever do it or would want to lol so props to you!!!! I'm about to start my 3rd play through on Nightmare again with a no Mage party. That should be a big challenge for me. That's awesome that you can solo it though. I would love to see some good quality vids.

Timortis,

Why berserker/reaver? Wouldn't champion or templar have been more helpful?

Probably. I did it because I thought it would be unique, most people go for Champion and Templar, everyone considers Reaver weak, especially for soloing.

I also figured, I'll be fighting at half-health most of the time soloing anyway, I might as well make it work for me. :P

I really wonder how you did it. The char shown on the last screenshot is in every aspect weaker than my AW was, but I had troubles on Nightmare even with my party........

If by weaker you mean stats like armor etc, they aren't everything, it's more of a matter of how and when you use your active abilities.

Really impressive man, really excellent job. I noticed you didnt get any screens of Gaxkang, as one of the harder fights in the game was he too tough to solo or didn't you do that quest? Props though, really impressive feat

I did Gaxkang and killed him first try but didn't take a screenshot I guess. I had 64% spell res, and that's enough to keep him from stunlocking you with freezes. The rest is just hitting him hard, which is what 2 handers do well.

Ah fair enough. I'm thinking of trying one of these solo runs myself (though not on nightmare, too scary for me). What order did you deal with the treaties? I'm assuming magetower first for the stats and Yusaris. Was it smooth sailing from then on or did you have to tackle some treaties earlier than others?

nice job man, I'm running solo rogue through nightmare so I can only imagine how much pita some fights were without the ability to stealth.

Yeah, I did Mages first for the attributes and Yusaris like you said, then Redcliffe, then Elves, then Urn, and finally Orzammar. In between I did some stuff in Denerim and before Landsmeet, finished up what was left there.

I wouldn't say it was smooth sailing after Mages, no. Redcliffe wasn't difficult, but at that point you haven't done most of the random encounters, and one pops up every time you travel and you know how they're always set up to be ambushes with you in a very disadvantageous position. It can be brutal.

Like I said in my first post, it got pretty tough at around level 12-13, I felt like. The boost I got when I was first able to wear Blood Dragon wasn't cutting it anymore. I felt especially weak against casters, since there's nothing you can do on an open map but run straight at them and hope they don't cast Crushing Prison before you knock them down.

I was able to buy the Spellward at level 15 I think, then I finished Crow's quests and got the GM Dweomer from Cesar and that made a big difference. I knew from my Rogue solo that it's better to side with Bhelen, so you can immediately have access to the ambassador's room in the royal palace to finish the Crow quests. Otherwise you have to wait until Harrowmont becomes king.
