DW Warrior is easier at lower levels, but where I am at now, lack of stun and knockdown resistance makes some fights very tough. I haven't been able to stack Hale Runes yet, which I was planning to do on one of the weapons, because of lack of funds. DW is expensive since you need 2 weapons. I bought Veshialle, saving for Rose's Thorn.

Did you use ranged weapons at all?
What about bombs and poisons?
How did you manage Cauthrien?
How did you handle the wolves in the early game???

My current character is also a solo DW Warrior (Nightmare difficulty).
I guess 25 Constitution, 20-25 Willpower, 34-36 Strength (+4 by completing the Fade = 38-40 Strength which allows you to wear Blood Dragon Armor or Massive Armor) and 50+ Dexterity is the way to go?

Minimum DEX to gain last talent in DW tree if you plan Dualing Axes (I used Veshaille and Axameter when I did this), then I dumped every single other point into STR.
Axes do 1 point less base damage than Longswords, but get a 1.25 strength damage bonus compared to 1.0 for Longswords, so after about 42 pts of strength or so, you are actually doing more damage with the Axes than you would with the swords.
I'm playing through the game again doing a 2h warrior with my random Diablo 2 style loot drops. It's definately more interesting because I have been looting +Crit damage items. I'm up to like +100% crit damage at the end of the game, which turns Mighty Blow and Critical Strike into mini Final Blows
Of course, I'm wearing mostly leather armor... but hey, you can't have everything (or atlleast I haven't found it yet...)

I don't like axes so I'll be using two daggers most of the time so I guess I do need Dexterity. Going the Champion/Reaver route I think, I'm still at Ostagar so I've got a long way to go

I won't tell you how to play, but I'll let you know two salient things so you are forwarned:
1) Daggers only get 0.85 attribute bonus to damage and if you're playing with the patch, it's split between STR/DEX.
2) As a warrior, other than momentum, the two biggest damage dealers you have are the aoe sweep and whirlwind attack and they do weapon base damage, so while daggers hit faster, they hit weaker, so those attacks will generally be lackluster.
PS: Berserker will add more damage over all with DW than reaver. You get a flat +8 damage bonus to each hand while the Reaver one fluctuates depending on your health. The real decision I think is going Champion or Reaver.

Btw, axes are not 1.25 AFAIK, swords are 1, axes are 1.1 modifier.

Battleaxe (2H), Waraxe (1H) are all 1.1, as is Greatsword (2H)
Longsword (1H) is 1 though
Mauls (2H) are 1.25
Anyway, I've been thinking of a solo play-through. I don't know how much the game scales encounter difficulty downward based on party members, but either way I prefer to focus on one character, more than party-based tactics. It vaguely recall trying to solo the infinity games as well, but don't recall if I'd ever completed any of them with just one character.

By not equipping an axe off-hand, you can put 6 more attribute points into STR, for your main hand that's almost 2.5 damage per hit. Add to that the +3 from Rose's which adds to both hands, and the higher attack speed, and the +30% crit modifier, and the +5% crit chance, not to mention health regen.
Anyway, I finished the anvil, next is the Urn and clearing bandits in Denerim.

You're right, Waraxe is 1.1. It's right below Battleaxe in the spreadsheet and I was kinda glazed eye when I looked at it. Mea Culpa.
Also, I disagree with Timmy over there about sweep and whirlwind. There is nothing as viscerally satisfying as hitting 5 or 6 guys for a couple hundred points each with your big meat cleavers. I found that towards the end of the game that it was like "Whirlwind" and then trying to click on each enemy fast enough so that I could finish off their sliver of life.

Havent done DW warrior solo yet, just DW rogue, put my 2H solo on hold for the time being after beating the High Dragon with the Great Maul at lvl 18, trying Blood Mage/Shapeshifter? (not AW for sure) atm, and it feels like it is not only possible to beat the game on NM solo with any class, I would even go as far as saying its "easier" than it looks on paper, and it is not even necessary to min/max character in order to succeed.
Either way, I would very much like to hear from someone who managed to solo with all classes because comparing "strength" of class/character should be in my opinion based on solo play-through not party play-through.

I would say with the exception of a couple of situations, Mage was by far the easiest. Rogue is next simply because stealth is huge in dealing with a lot of situations, and Warrior is the hardest, in my experience.
Of course, there are situations where one class feels much better than others. For example, for my Mage Branka fight was very difficult until I figured out the right strat, because she could literally 2-3 shot me with my 5 armor and she resisted a lot of spells. Whereas with the 2H it felt like a fairly easy fight. With the Rogue, it was difficult, simply because it was hard to hurt Branka with her high armor, and she was hard to stun so I couldn't get a lot of backstabs. With the DW Warrior, I already posted about my experience.
In fights where you have to fight average mobs and a lot of them DW excels in my experience. In fights against bosses 2H feels stronger. Rogues are very good against casters, and very good against single targets, and towards the end when their defense gets over 160, start to become very good in all melee situations, including very crowded fights.

My favorite spells with my solo AW playthrough: Blood Wound, Cone of Cold, Blood Control and Shimmering Shield.
Anyway I just completed the Korcari Wilds with my DW Warrior.
The Alpha Wolf battle was quite difficult, he constantly used Overwhelm on my character
The toughest fight was by far Gazarath. Your team members spawn next to you when the battle starts so first of all you have to move all your team members away (tip: put their tactics on Cautious and Custom 3 so they won't ever fight back). Gazarath attacked Ser Jory so that's why his health isn't 100%. Ser Jory begged for his life and Gazarath attacked my main character instead, lucky me :innocent:. The fight wasn't that difficult but I had to use 5 lesser health potions in order to survive and it took 4-5 minutes to beat him.

With a Dex based character you simply ignore a lot of the melee debuffs because they never hit you, the only things that still work against you are Scatter Shot and the various monster abilities that always hit, like grabs and overwhelms etc. It takes a while to get there though, that's why Rogues feel very fragile in the beginning and get better later.

Reading about your Mage vs Branka fight kind of symbolize to me the difference between character being able to hold her/his own at all times and character one-shotting certain bosses while being smacked around by others.
PS Dex based DW Templar with 100% magic resistance is basically Monk in BG2, just different

All you need to sacrifice as a Mage, to have more armor and defense than dedicated melee characters is one specialization and 4 talents, that's all. You're still a Mage with all the power of a pure caster, minus 4 spells. Unequip the heavy armor, cast to your heart's content. Wanna melee? Equip massive plate, turn on your buffs that make you a better tank than a Warrior specced for it, and go hit things with a big sword.
You have an attack that never misses with the staff, that can do huge damage to a target debuffed with hexes, if you want to play that way, while wearing plate. It's kinda ridiculous actually. I'm amazed Bioware didn't see it.
