I wonder how you survive long enough to drink potions. For example the revenant on Lv 7: He kills me so fast I dont even have time to drink a potion. Pull and I´m dead before I stand up again.............

I killed the Revenant in the Mages Tower at level 7. My stats:

Image IPB

It was a fairly easy fight. I used Momentum, Dual Striking, Berserk and the right mouse button :innocent:. I couldn't even use poisons.

That really helps on NM difficulty: 'grenades' and poisons. For example: I used a spirit damage poison during the fight with Uldred.

I know you did, thats why I choose this example. I fought him today on lv 10 (with party however), my Tank was Sten with Blooddragonarmor, so he had better armor than you. And I know for sure he could not have soloed him. I used misdirection hex and lots of other stuff on the revenant, and still had to spam potions and heal whenever possible to keep Sten alive. Damn, his special-aoe-attack took more than half of his HP in a single strike!!! That´s why I wonder how you could solo him. Which version of the game do you have, maybe they changed difficulty?

I've seen some of your vids RageGT, nice work.

The one in question was, among other experiences posted by others and my own from previous encounters with her, the reason meleeing her for laughs. I did not think it was doable, as I probably would not fight the Revenant in the Mages Tower at level 7, though I always enter there as lvl 8 after picking up Archivist's Sash in Denerim and some exp out of it in Orzammar and tend to try stuff. Still, luck is part of the fun.

Hey there.

What do you think about a Reaver/Templar spec for solo running 2hander?

The utility of reaver and spell resist of templar seem to be more important then pure dmg from berserker, or am I wrong?

Nope, Templar is an excellent specialization. We simply chose Berserker for an extra challenge.

PC, version 1.02.

I needed only a few health poultices during the fight and I killed him during my first attempt.

So I don't know  perhaps I was lucky.

@noobiedude:

Did you finish the "dog quest" in Ostagar? I did and see no way to survive the encounter right after Flemeth, when you can pick up dog. At least here I had to engage other party members in the battle.

@bas273

I see the icons of injury kits in your quick slot bar. What are these for? You only get injuries when you die and dying on a solo run means game over.

@All

How do handle companions on solo runs? Just don´t pick them up whenever possible or leave them in the camp alltogether?

I had a lot of health poultices left over which helped plus a rock salve I bought off the merchant in ostagar. It took several reloads but eventually I got lucky.

As for companions I got all of them so I could do their personal quests for xp.  At least keep leliana if you're not a rogue so she can lockpick for you.

Injury kits also restore a small amount of HP so they're not completely useless ;).  I usually sell them though (and I've removed them from my quickbar).

I've left Sten in Lothering and killed Wynne. The other companions guard the camp . When the game forces you to have a companion (Oghren in the Deep Roads, Dog during the Human Noble origin, etc.) I simply tell them to wait and continue on my own.

Can you avoid the battle at the city gates in the final battle, the one your party members have do deal with in absence of the warden?

I don't think so unless it's a random encounter.

If you leave Wynne and/or Morrigan at the city gates you can use Heal and Force Field to let the city guards fight the battle for you.

You can avoid the battle at the city gates if you only have enough party members left to fill your group going after the arch demon.

@bas273: I wonder about the 20 points of max. stamina shown on this character sheet. How is this possible?

Sustained abilities like berserking reduce max stamina.

Hey,

How did you guys get past the Arcane Horror in the Lower Brecilian Ruins?

I'm doing a solo 2h warrior run on Hard at the moment and its relatively smooth. Flemeth was tough (stupid Grab). but the rest was pretty much ok. Lvl 12 atm.

Do you get the lifegiver ring early (or get it at all?) it seems to help me a lot in my regular playthroughs (on hard) I'm contemplating trying a NM solo (not sure I have the skill or the patience though) but don't want to find out ALL things my self.

You say you are always saving for equipment.. could you tell me what you have been saving for in what order for some of your solo NM playthroughs

Assuming solo character having all income for her/himself Lifegiver is possible quite early: The Circle, then Orzammar. Coercion level can be tricky as most warriors would likely prefer to max Combat Training and possibly a point in Poison or/and Traps. Now when I said the obvious .. :)

I cannot speak for OP Timortis, who seems to be gone, nor bas273, who seem to take over the task, but Lifegiver is not essential as the first "uber" item. Depending on order of quests it might be more beneficial to get Spellward and magic resitance runes first or even Andruil's Blessing for reasons which can be debated. Personally, I got Paralyze runes (which was fail) and Tomes to reach Talents like Two-Handed sweep, Death Blow, Figthtening Appearence and Constraint frist, then before doing Deep Roads opted (dont ask ..) for Andruil's Blessing, Spellward after and Lifegiver as last. Playing as female dwarf noble gold was not an issue and by level 18 it was possible to face the High Dragon face to face as described elsewhere geared up.

Short version: Is Lifegiver essential as early as possible? Define .. essential.

*shrugs*

hmmm my DW rogue (in party play) was inspired by this thread to leave his party behind in the lower brec ruins (on hard). As a reply on Derek: that horror is annoying soloing him like this (still busy). (though my one man isn't maxed out like I guess a real soloer could be)

edit: LOL now I know why he was never hard with my parties. After running for melee (with the DW melee rogue) and not cathing him and getting paralyzed and fried etc etc. about 4 loads. I decided that even though I have no ranged skills I'd try shooting.. and he's helpless he can't do a thing to me (can't move to me, can't cast spells on me) and being a rogue with 50 dex makes me hit.. 15 arrows and he's down. So I guess he's CERTAINLY no large hurdle for a solo-er

I might be under illusion, but in my experience Hard is not that much different for rogue and warrior from NM. Started there too, but once it's switched it is .. just a game.

to Derek:) honestly? shooting it with a bow. What does it do? Electricity damage? Teleports? Mobs from left and right? Oh well ..

I just started a solo character on hard/nightmare, not very far, only finished the first floor of Ishal, but so far the hardest fight was the wolves right when you enter the Wilds, I used like 8 lesser health poultices ><. Deleting her though (female dwarf rogue) because I did the 'violent' voice and got tired of "should I get you a ladder so you can GET OFF MY BACK" every 30 seconds, gah.

Going to do DW warrior Reaver/templar.

i was just wondering if anyone has tried a solo run with an arcane warrior and perhaps spirit healer/blood mage? I am playing as an arcane warrior in a party right now but would love to play him solo, may replay as a mage just for the opportunity. On nightmare im wondering if it would be feasible to cast glyph of repulsion, tempest, inferno, regeneration on yourself and just outlast your enemies? Anticipating that the resistances offered by shimmering shield would take away from the friendly fire.

LOL :D I had exactly the same, I hate that line! I started a new game with the "Experienced" voice after two hours or so.

I start every fight by using lots of talents (Riposte, Flurry) and then I activate Momentum. So that's why my Stamina is quite low. Sometimes I also activate Berserk which lowers my Stamina even further.

I only buy:
- Elfroots
- Flasks
- Backpacks
- Distillation Agents
- Concentrator Agents
- Corrupter Agents

For Poison-Making and Herbalism (creating Health Poultices).

I need all the money I can get to buy the The Rose's Thorn which is a must-have dagger for dual-wielders.

108 Gold!!

Timortis is gone for a while but he'll be back ;)

I've never used the Lifegiver ring. I just searched for it on the Dragon Age Wiki in fact . It's looks like a must-have ring but I first need to buy Rose's Thorn.

So it's perfectly possible to solo the game without the Lifegiver ring.

Arcane Warrior is by far the easiest solo build. Start every battle by using as many spells as possible (AoE spells like Inferno, Cone of Cold, Crushing Prison etc.) then activate all your sustainables (Shimmering Shield, Rock Armor, Arcane Shield).
If you go the Blood Mage route you can cast even more spells but this requires careful planning (you don't want your health to drop down to zero).

Killed the Revenant in Redcliffe Castle.

I've used the Respec mod (only mod I ever use) due to some small problems and I decided to go for the Templar specialization instead of Berserker :innocent:.
