I've been curious about the Chantry's shady dealings ever since Alistair mentioned that he thought the Chantry might be using lyrium as a means of control to keep the Templars obedient... The fact that Samson (the "retired" Templar from DA2) also suggests something similar makes me wonder if we will explore the notion futher in DA3.

Some are well intentioned, some are power hungry jerks.
...Pretty much like every large organization ever.

The Chantry is a cancer on Thedas and needs to be cleansed with fire. Anders had the right idea all along.

What do you think of their policies towards mages and life itself?
I find them to be corrupt and they have lost direction.

Lets not forget allowing for the rape and systematic abuse of mages, and not to mention those Chantry sisters soliciting for donations from the poor.
And what about that templar that was willing to torture and slaughter Merrill's clan just to get Fenyriel back. The lady Templar called them Knife Ears.
Didn't Andraste free the slaves? Is there something in the chant that says Andrastians have to be racist?

After viewing the Seeker movie,I find myself liking the Chantry for the first time.It seemed the Divine was polite to the First Enchanter and the mages were on her side in the fight..Which got me to thinking the farther we get from the Divine the worse the Templars treat the mages. They still need a change but maybe not Anders style.
Edit Spelling.
Careful, she might turn out to be a wolf in sheeps clothing... this could easily lead to another Master Li situation in DA3 LOL!

Someone in Kirkwall that the Grand Cleric would have to listen to and all you can say to Leliana the Left Hand of the Divine is we are ok.Please don't come and kill us?Come on.
Old Kung FU series the old blind mentor did not,and Kill Bill only took an Eye.Oh back on topic: My view of the Chantry is changing at this point in time.

I agree, the Chantry uses its own authority to hold down the Dalish (I don't approve of the Dalish racism or the Humans' racism). I remember a couple of priests saying the Chant should be sung from all four corners of the world in order to gain the Maker's favor (basically worship our Lord or be labelled a heathen).
Ander's is right, what he did cracked open a stalemate between the Mages and Templars as throughout the ten years either side is winning so Anders blows up the Chantry sparking war.

The chantry souldn't be involved in politcs or have Templers to inforce their laws
I'm not keen on religious institutions in general, but I think they can do good in communities. I think if the templars were just used as a mage law enforcement (finding the evil mages and using their necessary abilities against them), and have the Circle used solely as an educational institution instead of a permanent way of life, without the influence of the Chantry that things would have been much better overall.

"Hawke! Here are my manifestos! Read them!"
"Hawke! I have prepared a manifesto. Let me read it to you! *Rants on about Andraste and that magic verse from the Chant of Light with a whiny voice and it sounds like he's going to cry*"
"Hawke! I have sent you another of my manifestos! Read it!"
"Hawke! I never knew this would happen. Justice is no longer justice. Whaaaaaaaa! I am a monster!"
"Hawke! Nothing you say will make me feel different for I have said everything already to myself."
"Hawke! Help me grab poo and urine from the sewers to create a potion!"
"Whaaaaa! Hawke! I killed her!"
"Hawke! I loved Jeff and those Templars murdered him!"
"Hawke! I wake aching for you! It is madness!"
As soon as I got the chance to knife Anders I did so with great joy. As the knife pierced the weak and pale butter skin of Anders my character was in ectasy and the ectasy increased as he departed his knife from the weak and soft flesh of Anders and saw the blood on it. As Anders lay shivering and bleeding to death on the cold floor drowning and gagging in a pool of his own blood my character rejoiced. Gone were the memories of waves of enemies and recycled areas, gone were the memories of plot holes and gone were the memories of lego blocks. For once all these memories had vanished and my character was happy and rejoiced in Kirkwall's only tavern - The Hanged Man. Anders was dead and that was cause for celebration!
If Anders wanted to start a war with the Templars he should have attacked the Gallows rather than attacking The Chantry which had innocent people in. Anders was a murderer plain and simple.

You are my new best friend.
What Anders did was something that had to be done. The Chantry's abuses have gone on far too long and the rebellion is long over due.

My City Elf Warden felt no particular loyalty towards it because it's very human in another sense too - even though she believed in Andraste and the Maker. Though to her it seemed more benevolent than most of the other human authorities.
My canon Hawke was more inherently hostile, being a mage, but still hoped for reform rather than thinking on the lines of outright rebellion or confrontation.

It has already corrupted the teachings of Andraste like the Church (during the Inquisition) corrupted the teachings of Christ.
The Chantry already has people who consider anyone that does not do as they say as heretics that need to be taken care of, even if it means war. Exalted Marches in DA similar to Crusades?
They seem to encourage hatred of minorities. Mages and Elves in DA. Those of Jewish decent and maybe Gypsies in Europe.
The list just goes on. Much of what I'm seeing could be wrong, since it has been a while since I took World History.
Actually looking back on this, it seems that the Chantry is becoming like WW2 Germany as well. Mage Towers (especially in DA2) becoming like concentration camps. I know the mage towers don't even come close to being as horrible, but I could see the Chantry heading in that direction. As of the current game, they seem more like the Japanese American Internment Camps. There to keep everyone safe by preventing sabotage, etc that most likely never would have happened and the people being forces to live in those places suffering because of closed minded bigots.
Bah...proof that no matter how dark a game gets, it can't get no where as dark as real life can be.
Edit: For some reason could not use the more historical accurate N word for the group that lead Germany during World War 2.

KILL IT WITH FIRE.
But some of my PCs believe in the Maker, so I don't let my views ruin my playthroughs.
