@Gecon: Good points. The Dwarf Noble losing all his or her items was fixed by the latest patch, wasn't it? By the way, even without spending too many points on Dexterity you will still benefit from items, Fade bonuses and specializations (that's at least a +10) so attack won't be bad even without maxing out Dexterity.



@King Chris 2: taking all Rogue talents will cripple your build because unless you manage to get to level 25 you won't have enough ability points to max out everything you need.



My plan would be to get:



-Rogue: dirty fighting, combat movement, coup de grace, below the belt, deadly strike, lethality, stealth (4 ranks), lockpicking.

-Dual weapon: riposte, expert dual weapon and momentum.

-Assassin and Duelist abilities.



Evasion looks tempting but it requires 35 Dexterity points so pick it up if you went for high Dexterity.



By the way the chest next to the mage in Ostagar can't be picked, you need a key. Try talking to everyone next time you play the game.



@Kevinwastaken: nobody likes being unable to open a chest. In my last game I completely ignored chests and I'm pretty sure it cost me 2 levels by the end of the game as I reached level 22 with my first Rogue and level 20 with my warrior (of course I also skip quests that are not in character but still the difference has to amount to something).



My first Rogue had a high Strength for heavy armour, 36 Dexterity and the rest in Cunning, it convinced me that spreading points that much was a bad idea and I made sure my other rogue maxed Cunning.

I think it just fixed losing the DLC items, not all the rest of them.

so whats in the mage chest in ostagar then? and which character do you speak to and another in the prima guide if you get the mabari war hound doing the human noble quest it says that dog can dominate the kings tent via a wood pile I've never seen a wood pile near any tent is this a mis print or is it near the tower instead but still no pile of wood to use dominate on?

I haven't played the Noble Dwarf origin yet but I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

The chest has some stuff in it, potions and some mage headgear I don't remember exactly what there was in it. The prisoner has stolen the key and you can get it from him.

Mabari dominance is a fun thing, if you see a landmark you can activate it by taking control of the dog and having him interact with the landmark. I believe all these things are covered in the Prima guide.

Well guy who started this topic , I gotta tell you by the sounds of it you will not be able to create the best Rogue ever on your 1st try , you will have to learn by doing it over again after you screw up this attempt

I will give you a few tips though

1.DON'T raise STR past 16 (Theres 4 more points in the fade) to bring you to 20 and wear tier 7 leather

2.Pump only DEX & CUN , CUN more than DEX

3.DO NOT buy lockpicking 3 or 4 , simply stop at #2 and once your cun reaches 40 you will be able to open all chests anyway

4.Use all +crit/backstab dmg equipment and daggers you can get

5.Use all the best elemental dmg runes you can get

6.Teach your mage(s) haste and para glyph

7.Assassin specialization is MANDATORY , Duelist SUCKS , for overall best do Assassin/Bard

8.Lethality , Coup De grace , Dirty fighting , & Riposte are MANDATORY

9.Don't listen to those fools who say ignore DEX , I assure you your character will be blind as a ****ing bat if you ignore it , you need to do about 65% CUN 35% DEX pumping at least

I've done 3 full Rogue playthroughs , I know what I'm talking about

Lame 15 second long Pinpoint strike can suck it , thats what coup de grace is for

I knew you would say that but coup de grace just make backstabs and Backstab is not same as Crit meaning no shatters to oneshot mobs.

Double hasted flaming+iced weapons + 30 points of additional dmg (runes) Rogue can kill people in 1 second flat regardless of shatter

Though if that somehow works on bosses and dragons and stuff? That would be insane though

I'm in the fade at the moment and am also going to buy all tomes so I can increase cunning to max hopefully n also get some more dual weapon / assasin skills n maybe duelist skills n i've decided that i'm going to put effort into stealing instead of coercion so i can do some quests better. not been able to open 2 chest but i'll level up during the fade so i'll shove all points into cunning n then i'll go back n see if i can open the chests

Actually, if you'd be going full Cun it'd help you to hit, but then you dismiss this with your superior expertise...

Who are you calling fools, boy?

FYI name calling won't make your point, it will only antagonize people and make you look bad.

You don't need to max out Dexterity, there is more to be gained in maxing out Cunning. Dexterity over 36 won't yield much with all specs and items. 26 is good enough if you don't intend to pick up evasion and every dual weapon abilities since Dexterity will be over 40 with specializations, fade bonuses and items.

By the way, you're wrong about Duelist. +4 points in Dexterity and +1 to damage is not bad. That's a matter of opinion but I prefer my main to be a damage dealer, not a supporting character.

Full stealth and Bard + Ranger or full Ranger only for spec and just spend the extra spec point on assasin for extra dexterity and crit chance you can even solo like this, i found a full ranger with rogue talents maxed except for some lockpicking and full DW talents is a very strong build maybe not the most dps without some assasin talents but a very strong and versatile build and dont put points into poisons if you plan to keep zevran around.

hi there



just finished the fade and circle of magi quest am now level 9 with 20 strength, dex 31, will 16, magic 12, con 11 and cunning 34. My skills are stealing, trap-making, hebalism, poison-making, combat training, improved combat training and expert combat traing. My talents are mark of death, dirty fighting, combat movement, coup de grace, below the belt, deadly strike, leathality, deft hands, improved tools, stealth, stealthy item use and duel weapon training. My armor n weapons are the edge and beast mans dagger/ thorn of the dead gods, leather helm, studded leather gloves, studded leather boots, studded leather armor, creationist cord and the apprentices amulet. does anyone know where to find all tomes before and after landsmeet, so i can further pump cunning as much as possible and dex to 36? Do you think i should go and rescue shale or go to redcliff or even do the drwaves not doing the elves in the forest till much later?

@King Chris2: you haven't taken riposte? It's really a very useful ability for a backstabber. You can skip many high tier abilities in the dual weapon category but do yourself a favour and pick riposte and momentum.

i will get riposte n momentum just focusing on all rogue talents first n assasin stuff second, but after i've got loads of gold n stuff to sell i'll buy a load of tomes to get most to all duel weapon feats n maybe some archery skills if got every thing else, but won't go for rest of lock picking skills till pretty much end game so i can get the acheivement for it

Your way the only way ? Everyone else are wrong because you can kill something fast without using shatter? In my party i have Leliana buffing with songs, so duelist is perfect the speck even adds dex and damage

Btw 30 points extra damage with runes, not all mobs you are facing are darkspawn(or undead) but i agree majority are i would still like to know how you get 3x GM silverite rune, i have only found 2 and master one seems to be missing.

i am also going to see what grand master runes pop up and use them on my weapons i'm selling everything else, but don't know if my way is the best way or not, but after i've done with this build i'll probaly go bard/ ranger rogue but dwarven nobel origin maybe

game froze on me in magi tower so have restarted the game but just pumping everything into cunning @ the moment n still noble human rogue and am going to duel welding n assasin classes in that order i've got about 23 cunning @ the moment
