So I found this out last night as I was running my current character through the Fade portion of the Mage's Tower quest. Try it out.

When you get to one of the ability-increasing fonts, quicksave (so that if it doesn't work you can try it again). Now, get your camera in a comfortable position so that you can keep your mouse cursor over where the ability font is as your character moves towards it. I find it somewhat helpful to sort of pause/unpause until I'm sure I've got a steady lock on it. Now as the character gets close to it, right-click the hell out of it, as fast as you can, as many times as you can. If you are fast enough, you will get TWO +1's to the ability in question.

Far as I can tell, works on every single one. Never heard of this glitch before, so I thought I'd share it.

Sweet glitch. There's one that works similar when selling an item from your junk section of your inventory (on 360 at least). You have to sell all junk plus sell the item selling all junk first then a micro-second later sell the itme. It sells it twice. You can then buy it back and repeat. So you can get infinite gold this way. i have played with cheating like this for whatever I want, without cheating and with only cheating to buy skill books and backpack upgrades. My optimal fun factor is now just using the cheat to get skill books and backpack upgrades.

I feel like the backack upgrades and the Ability and Arcane Tomes should have been quest rewards.

In my giddiness upon discovering it... and my duty to research, having to see which ones it worked on and which it didn't... yeah, my character got something like 42 stat points in the Fade, which is honestly a bit retarded and I probably wouldn't do it again. Maybe just double up on the abilities that are really useful for the character in question.

If you're going to do that why not just use the console? I mean, an exploit is just the long way around a cheat.

... that's not really my point, sir. Just letting people know it's there. Why talk about anything at all since the console can just beat the game for you.

Don't take it the wrong way, if you want to cheat, cheat, I've got nothing against you. I just don't see the point in going the long way about it to get the end result. I don't use the console, so your comment doesn't apply to me, I referenced it for people who use exploits like this one and the infinite xp exploit. In these cases I don't see why the player wouldn't just use the console.

I am on team sinosleep with this one. I dont see the point of doing this. If you gonna cheat / exploit broken mechanics, whatever you want to call it, you might as well just open the console command and cheat... same thing at the end of the day.

I mean why go through the whole saving / loading process to exploit an unintended mechanic (aka cheating) if you can just open the console and do the same thing using less time? Unless for some odd ball reason you feel its not cheating by exploiting something but opening the console and doing the same thing is?

Each to there own but end of the day you might as well just use the console and save yourself the time.

well with the new update they fixed the unlimited exp received during the grey wardens quest dont know about the fade glitch but I dont usually care to use those tactics when I could just as easily go to nexus and download a mod patch that will give me what I want. Yes Yes I do that from time to time just to see how things work and how to use them regarding different characters and game situations. They are fun to play with but are just fluff and I wind up going back to my main characters always. Its more fun to think through the game rather then around it. At least for me.

::shakes head:: People are the internet never cease to amaze me. I'm not one who uses cheats or even exploits that often, I just discovered this last night and wanted to share since I'd never heard of it before in over a month of coming here. Just spreading "the word" as it were. I only mention quicksaving so if you are trying to see the glitch for yourself, you give yourself another shot at it if the first activation doesn't double. The "effeciency" of the exploit is not my concern and I don't see why it should be. Just saying it can be done.

I had the same thing last night. However, in my case I managed to get 10+ atribute points off of one ability font. I think it was because I was using my girlfriends computer and its a bit slower. It is definetly something that should be fixed. In some areas (with lots of graphical effects) I had to be careful not to accidently click on it multiple times because it would take like 5 to 10 seconds to register the point.

I was actually supprised when I was able to keep the normal attribute points (one per font) after I left the fade. There are so many of them it seems a bit overpowered even without exploiting.

I had this glitch once.

It is cause by installing player made mods. Some of them have errors which screw up leveling.

One of the Ancient Elven Boots fixes for PC caused this. Once I deactivated that mod, things got fixed.

HOWEVER... you need to reload the game from a point BEFORE you installed the broken mod...

Well, it doesn't happen unless you click the font in question ALOT... is that what you mean, or are you saying some player made mods cause this to happen, if you just click the fonts like normal?

I am saying that the problem is definitely cause by player made mods. Maybe something else can cause it as well... but I know for a fact that installing certain poorly written mods will cause what the OP is describing.

The Lothering Ancient Elven Boots mod was one such mod.

Merely installing it caused the problem.

Once I deactivated it and reloaded a save from before I installed it the problem went away...

Other mods might cause it too...

I KNOW that the respec mod (ver 1.6) does NOT cause the problem. Neither did the storage chest mod. I can't speak for other mods...

The reason someone might want to do the exploit versus the console is that enabling the console stops the uploading of characters and their progressions. Of course, one could switch back and forth between launching the game with the console, saving and then re-launching the game without the console to update their character online. Since I haven't done this, I can't say which is faster.

No console commands on 360 but I'm not even sure if this fade glitch works on the bawks.

Meh considering how slow the site updates your character I don't think it's much of a reason. My characters haven't been updated in weeks.
