You've got it backwards.  You're not denying anybody the right to "upgrade" themselves.  You are in fact denying people the right NOT to upgrade.

We don't have the option to upgrade only those who want it. Synthesis is an all or nothing deal.
You may say that forcing it on those who don't want it is wrong. I say otherwise. I say that denying those who want it because some who might not is what is wrong especially because I find denying oneself synthetic upgrades that can greatly improve one's life to be incomprehensible.

I bet you persuaded Michael and Rebeka to get the gene therapy for the child.

You win that bet.

Putting aside issues of morality, just for the moment, how did we leap to the conclusion that Synthesis makes everyone healthy?

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be happy when the removal of my OCD and Depression makes me less eccentric.

You WILL be happy.

Indeed. There's nothing holy about privation. Overcoming limits makes us stronger, but I'd like my limit to be my inability to climb Everest instead of not being able to get out of bed alone.

Only a tyrant would think they knew what was better for the galaxy and the people in it, rather than what has been evolving already. Now you have made sure organics and synthetics evolve down the paths that you desire.

Sounds familiar…

Never trust a Reaper solution to a problem.

I'd rather die than give you control. I'm sorry.

Extrapolation from the leaked script. And if Shepard is the template, the most obvious things his synthetic bits gave him were physical improvements.

So... Joker's limping in the Synthesis ending? Just another writer oversight?

But that's not synthesis.  That's just prosthetics.

Consideringh his very much not alive hat has a cirvuitry pattern, I wouldn't bet against it.

You'd don't get to use writer oversights if we don't.

He's still limping.

That's the problem with Synthesis.  We either accept that it has made a change, and therefore is morally suspect, or we assume that it hasn't changed anything, and is useless.

No, I don't like Cerberus

Success is the only thing that matters to TIM, right and wrong are not relevant.

Third option - it doesn't change physical traits, which are really the least important traits of intelligent life anyway.

(And that's assuming non-lazy cinematics.)

I'd imagine someone with Cerebral Palsy would benefit greatly then.

How terrible.

How does that stop a synthetic/organic conflict then?

If it doesn't somehow "level the playing field", then it is useless.

Fourth option - While Synthesis makes our bodies "better" it also makes our ailments "worse."  Resulting in zero net change.

Good and evil are very relevant. But it's better to painlessly upgrade all life, even without consent, and hope that lets them survive a post-relay age in better shape than it is to just blow up the relays.

You blow them up without violating everything.

They can do as they wish.

well, technically i can already have sex with a toaster but i mean will the toaster form some kind of toaster vagina? or will my penis be replaced by a piece of bread?

speculations!!!

I know what CP is, but not what you're getting at...

Simple - AI is created to think for us, not to move heavy boxes for us. Synthetics are good at the latter too, obviously, but you don't need to go beyond VIs or even less complicated programs for that.

That is the source of the danger. Organics, through laziness, greed and hate, create AIs to get an edge over other organics (who cannot hope to keep up.) AIs, being both smarter and infinitely more patient, will eventually break free - or be destroyed trying. Note that these are both purely mental traits.

What it does to our bodies is actually irrelevant. Our minds are the important thing, because with sufficient brainpower we (a) can modify our bodies ourselves, and (B) don't need to rely on AI to do our thinking for us.
