How hard is it compared to insanity of me2? any good builds going i will not try vanguard as we all know they get killed so easily so what you guys think of soldier or infiltrator with cryo ammo does this ammo actually work in this mode and am thinking of using defense matrix? any idea hints or tips would be appreciated.

I'm doing fine on Insanity with a novaguard. It's not really that hard if you're not running around out of cover too much.

While I enjoyed Vanguard for the sake of fun, I'd suggest a more ranged class. I think most folks would agree that BW did a real nice job balancing the classes, though I tend to think that Adepts may have a nose toward the end because of the combo potential with Liara as squadmate.

It's pretty hard IMO. Some don't find it difficult at all. But, for me it was challenging and fun. Not hard in a frustrating way, but in a fun way. I played a soldier. I imagine it would playout differently if I played a different class.

It's easier than 2 and harder than 1. If you're used to playing shooters then the Infiltrator, followed by soldier will offer the easiest playthrough (tac cloak is the most powerful ability in the game). Even if you aren't used to it, Infiltrator time dilation and the time dilation weapon mod make lining up headshots with with a sniper rifle too easy, for the class and only thing slowing down your kill rate will be reloading. Vanguard has gotten much easier to play with the addition of nova (though it's still going to be looking at the reload screen more often than the other classes). You should check the gameplay and strategy forum, for tips and advice.

Heck, my first playthrough on normal was frustrating, especially before the abilities were advanced!

Infiltrator with the black widow (save up, it's expensive!) and cryo ammo. You'll one shot most unarmored enemies and slow/freeze those you don't. With this, I hardly ever even used powers (save for tactical cloak)
Use Liara and Javik for Biotics (set up some explosions) for when you have to reload.
Or you can use Liara and Kaidan as Kaidan still has Reave which dentotates singularity, etc but also overload. This was my preferred team on insanity.
NG+ also makes it much easier.

Easiest Insanity of all 3 games.

an infiltrator with a widow and a falcon made it hideously easy to the point where the slow skill cooldown wasnt really an issue

I've only played on Insanity. Except for some missions I found it really easy. After 8-9 hours it was like the easiest game ever.

I'd say the difficulty is on par. The insanity of ME2 was annoying simply because enemies were walking around with shields and the cover mechanics of ME3 help a great deal in preventing damage and securing flanks.

any good builds going i will not try vanguard as we all know they get killed so easily

I don't really like the Vanguard either. I remember in ME2 that the Sentinel was the easiest class to play with on Insanity, simply because you had a tool for everything you could possibly encounter, and the tech armor helpt a great deal in mitigating damage and staying alive in tough situations. Maybe try that one?

so what you guys think of soldier or infiltrator with cryo ammo does this ammo actually work in this mode and am thinking of using defense matrix? any idea hints or tips would be appreciated.

The soldier and infiltrator both work well on insanity. Remember that you can use a Widow or Black Widow with your soldier aswell. Adrenaline Rush + either one of those snipers is pretty deadly for pretty much anything. But the infiltrator has the cloak which is great for getting out of cover and flanking the enemy (or run to a nearby heavy weapon).
I don't know how effective Cryo ammo is. People seem to like warp ammo and armor piercing ammo better. Noone is stopping you from trying it out, though cryo ammo on a sniper rifle isn't recommended because your enemies die before they can freeze up.

Some tips:
Don't get flanked
Don't be afraid to use your med kits often
And remember that there are heavy weapons laying around on some missions (The 3 Geth Primes on Rannoch, the base where Primarch Victus is located, and near the missle launchers on Priority: Earth, to name a few).

I played as an adept, took Liara with me everywhere, biotic exploded every enemy into oblivion, and Insanity was much easier than I thought it would be.

I thought it was harder than ME 2 insanity, which I thought was ridiculously easy. ME 1 insanity wasn't so much difficult as it was frustrating.

Easier than 2 (well...save for the Defend the Missiles scenario on Earth. That just SUCKED!), but way harder than 1. Of course for me, 1 on insanity didn't really feel any harder than normal. I played through as a soldier and did fine.

It's not too hard, except for any mission with an Atlas mech and very little room to run around in. Grissom Academy and Surkesh spring to mind. Also, well no spoilers, but prepare yourself to die a lot when you meet Marauder Shields.

It depends on your level. In ME3 enemies don't scale. At level 60 it'll be a cakewalk.

Imagine how tough Mass Effect 3 would be if enemies scaled.

lol without a doubt the hardest part of the game. After my 14th or 15th attempt I seriously began to think I might never be able to do it.

If you beat ME2 on insanity, then you'll definitely be fine.

I got past him on my first time. Hell, it took me three times on normal.

Insanity is pretty easy if you know what a power combo is.
