The version I have is 1.0.1765.0, but I have seen references to a 1.68 version toolset. Am I mistaken? Is there a site I can download a new toolset version?

1.0.23.1765 is the current (and last barring flying pigs) toolset version for nwn2. Nwn1 went up to patch 1.69 for the game, so the nwn1 toolset may have a 1.68 version.

So how can I get the current version? Update says I have the current one. My game is 1.23.1765 and the updater doesn't show the toolset version.

I think the OP is talking about the NWN toolset. These forums are for NWN2. The current version for NWN toolset is vts030 but basically if you have patch 1.69 then you have the correct version of the toolset. They are not patched separately.
For NWN2, the current version of the toolset is 1.23, as Kamal said. Again...patching to 1.23 gives you the correct toolset version. They are not patched separately. The only time when the toolset is treated differently is if you have the Steam version, inwhich case you will need to download the toolset seperately, but it comes fully patched.
