Couple of questions.
1. Is there a way to have an alpha channel work for opacity of an object? If so what do I need to change in the MAO file?
2. Can DA have two sided mesh, or quads? We have a sword and to save poly count we did a flat shape for the chain, but it needs a back side as well, do we have to add a second set in or is there a way to have it double sided?
Thanks.

For #2, as far as I know, you can't create a double-sided mesh in a way that would save polygons, you just have to add in a second set/side.

#2 - For DA not sure whether the engine is as sensitive to the position of the alternate side polies as NWN1 was. In NWN1, the rear facing polies needed to be placed a fraction away from the front face, you couldn't snap them to the same point as it confused shadow casting and resulted in flickering dark patches.
Edited for clarity:
Ensuring the vertices are snapped / welded is necessary - but duplicating faces causes the problems, so a diamond shaped section through the sword allows you to snap the edge vertices whilst keeping the front and rear faces distinct and separate.
