Yes, I did get that impression that the current system is unsatisfactory to some people. I do not object to that. What I meant is that I think the solution you two proposed, with a dialogue prompt that pops up when you hit certain button mid-banter, is quite unrealistic. It might work in a cinematic, but I'm not sure. It sounds like a hassle to implement and extremely difficult to ensure that it works well.

I do however like the idea behind it.

In conversations; hitting an interrupt button a lá Mass effect and instead getting up a prompt allowing you to evaluate the action and choose whether it's something you would do or not howerver. That I can see and do like.

I don't see why it isn't possible to implement into banter. It would function the same as an interrupt in a cinematic.

Out of curiosity... I understand the two of you dislike autodialogue, that you do not want your character to act without your permission. Does this also apply to things like "go on", "continue", "yes?" and similar things? Basically the few words most of us use to confirm that we heard and wish the other side to proceed. Would this also be unacceptable to you two?
Similarily. Is it unacceptable for a character to refer to another by name through autodialogue when greeting them?
And what's the extent a character is allowed to move in a cinematic without being prompted? Is it, for instance, acceptable that your character dodges a punch or projectile in a cinematic?
I'm merely curious where you think the limits for what is acceptable to automate and what is not are.

I like to select the option to continue, because that means the PC is interested in the conversation. I would like to see a "stop" option as well as a continue for conversations, so the PC can stop the conversation if they are not interested.

I dislike ALL auto-dialogue on principle. I find all auto-dialogue very undesirable to say the least, even the "war cries" the PC does in combat.

As for moving in a cinematic, I am fine with that, but I would personally prefer to have cinematic sequences involving the PC at a minimum if at all.

Sylvius: Yes. I clarified what I saw as possible and what I saw as not. The thing you're suggesting for cinematics, I like it.

And thank you for the explanation regarding what is and what is not acceptable to you.

Wsandista. The reason I don't see it as practical is that right now the banter is likely not much more than soundfiles that play once you pass a certain point. What you're suggesting is that all banter activates a hidden interface that is ready to be activated at a moments notice to allow you to interject whenever you feel like it. It would dramatically expand banter from a quick and easy but neat thing to a massively complex construct. Even in the best case scenario, the amount of banter we do get would be dramatically diminished since it's now a much more involved process in creating them.
I feel that if it is a choice between your idea and no pc interaction in banter then it'll more often than not fall in favour of the latter. You might as well cut all banter out and replace them with dialogues proper.
And thank you for the explanation.

The only reason I'm suggesting changes to banter at all rather than just replacing them with ordinary dialogue is that BioWare has shown that they like to limit dialogue to fixed locations, and that that they've started to insert the PC into the banter in a non-interactive way.

Since I dislike having the PC involved in anything at all that is non-interactive, this trend is unaccetable to me, but BioWare clearly doesn't want to us to have full conversations just anywhere.

As such: amended banter.

Well, I did love the way DA:O did it. So very much. I loved the close up convo. Anytime I wanted. Sometimes the dialogue was exhausted, but that was okay with me.

I loved being able to kiss Alistair whenever I wanted...and have a party member react to it. Heck, one time I had Zevran with us (and I only flirted with him a little bit. I mean, really.), and Alistair wouldn't kiss me in front of Zevran. Lmao! I was like What? Oh!. Lol.

And just havinf the weirdest conversations right in the middle of the deep roads, or something. It was awesome.

Oh, BW. My BW. I know you said it was unlikely you'd go back to that.....but it was such a ladle full of awesomesauce!

That is what I want. Yes, it is. That and the little expressions they would make when you were choosing a companion load out. Ha! When you sent one back..."Blasted!"

Those little things. They're so cool. They add so much. It makes me sad that you don't want to do that kind of thing anymore.

edit: Oh! and there was one time..or actually a couple of times...when I was getting my beehind kicked by some ogre. I mean, oh, Lud. I was about to fall. Then outta nowhere Alistair comes flying in with some ninja monkey swordsman combat move and takes him down. Sexy.

Better believe I stopped the whole game and kissed him for that. Yes, I did. See, it's not always inappropriate...clears throat..just sayin'.

Actually, I think I'm going to fire up a fresh game of DA:O---even though I hate that stuck in the Fade part--never played as human noble..hmm. I should go. :wizard:

And why we're at it, why not a kiss anywhere with your L.I. like in Origins? We just killed a troupe of darkspawn and are all splattered with their taint from head to foot....come here baby!

Being able to converse with my companions at any time, (even in a limited way) would make the game more immersive for me. I endorse this.
