Ok, sorry about the original formatting. It wasn't because it was "poorly typed", I got caught out by the un-formatting job the forum did on my notepad copy/paste - even though it looked fine when I previewed it here. It is sorted now.

As for the existence of a thread about this review, sorry I didn't see it and I DID look through the forums (quickly) before posting just in case.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

"... I trust Edge magazine. Those guys know what they're talking about. Maybe I'll just quit DA because it's obviously nothing like the game I thought it was!"

wow! another sheep off to slaughter... (mutton, anyone?)

@Sam -stone- serious: while you have your issues with DA and agree with the Edge's review, and many of us disagree with your view and the Edge's review, you got it dead on with your last sentence: "IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THEY SAY THOUGH IF YOU ENJOY YOURSELF WITH WHATEVER GAME YOU GRAB AND PLAY HOWEVER."

who cares what some 1st, 2nd, or 3rd-rate magazine review says if you are enjoying the game. and for anyone who enjoys a game based on what reviews it gets, you have a lot bigger problem than just having blown $50 on a game...

Edge hates on pretty much all WRPGs not made in the UK. The review reads like someone who hates the genre was forced to play and review the game.

Numbers mean jack, if we are to take cold hard numbers then we say that Britney Spears is the very best the music scene has to offer which is of course not even near the mark.

Your right, l mean whose ever heard of Time, Rolling Stone, etc...or Elvis, Beatles, etc

Numbers mean jack......

Or are they not "high quailty" like this "Edge" is?

The "only professional bublication", they should use that as their tagline.

Ironically its the games companies themselves that call them as such.

Which ones? Where? For that matter, when?

Do they also consistently misspell?

Dont take my word for it then. Make your own research and see for yourself that Edge IS  the one and only true professional magazine out there. Its the only magazine that companies themselves take as a benchmark to make their games. Are they always right?  Of course not. They too are people after all but you will not find a better and more informed and unbiased games publication elsewhere.

Their review system is a bit weird for those that have never read the magazine but its there. Please dont comment again if you dont know about the magazine. As i said before there is a -reason- why its -only- professional bublication out there. Their reviews may seem harsh but ultimately they are very close to the truth.

IT  DOES  NOT  MATTER  WHAT  THEY  SAY THOUGH  IF  YOU  ENJOY  YOURSELF  WITH  WHATEVER  GAME  YOU  GRAB  AND  PLAY  HOWEVER.

Wtf?  Edge is the most biased magazine out there, giving good reviews to sucky mainstream games, and the good ones like dao they want to give a bad one just to get attention, which is bad because their also going to lose credibility and trust.

Maybe edge did pay you to do this...  hm

I dont know what to tell you. The only obvious thing for you to do is to research and buy at least one issue. What exactly do you want me to say?

Well, since you are the one claiming they are the one and only authoratative voice in gaming reviews, i want you to back it up with some proof. Since you made the claim it is up to you to back it up.

I find it funny that i am being assaulted by people who badmouth things (in this case EDGE) without ever getting a glimpse on it. Much less scroll through its pages in a hurry.

Ok let me start accusing things myself then without ever experiencing them. I find that -quite- logical. Dont you?

And where have you seen this?  How do you know?  What is your reference?  If you wish to tell people to 'go research', you should have no problem providing some leads to research in the form of your own references.

Instead of asking me such questions you can easily go and buy one and see for yourself because even telling you so you wont take my word for it. Go see with your own two eyes.

When did you ever need experience on a game reviewer?  Seriously!?!

If you really need experience in reading something, then it just adds on just how bad edge is

I would imagine the game developers who said that Edge is the only professional "bublication" didn't just do so it the latest issue, so how would picking that up help me find that quote? Do you even read the posts you respond to?

I cant. I dont know how. I dont care enough really to start doing so e either. Since i am an Edge reader since 1996 there have been numerous remarks from the industry towards them through the years and it still happens today.

VtM Bloodlines a 6 and Fable 2 a 9? ARCANUM A 5!?
That's just criminal. These people should be arrested.

Several wrong with this list.

BG2 is a 9 and as the review said, its definate 10 if they remove the crushing bugs (which BG2 had a butload off at its release). Secondly, the Witcher DESERVES  a 5 since this review is the NON  enchanced edition which ENHANCED  edition got an 8 in a very small reference remark when it came out 1 year later. The 6 for morrowind is for the X-box version.

There are several such revies that are based on the -out of the box- product of the day. Vampire Bloodlines was UNPLAYABLE  at its release. It needed 2 patch updates to be able to progress through the game. Many of those games got updates in later issues when they were in a more complete state. Bear that in mind.

Well Bloodlines could be explained because combat was REALLY weak in that game and it had a horse load of bugs. >_> I love the game but it did have its flaws. God I hated fighting in that game.

I sure as heck don't consider them to possess the truth.

They won't convince me that Fable is such a good franchise, much less that Fable 2 is on par with KOTOR or NWN or whatever else they gave a 9 to as far as wrpg goes.

Perhaps they are highly regarded because of the prose, superior writing skills and great cover art(I think they also have nice articles) but it's definitively not a mag that I would look upon as far as reviewing skills goes(and I don't).

Huh. This actually appears to be a very useful magazine. I can base my game purchasing decisions on how Edge rates them - the lower the score they give, the more I'll like it. My favorite games (DAO, Arcanum, VTMB, Morrowind, The Witcher), all rated 6 or lower.

Oh I get it, for some reason their 6 and 9 keys are turned upside down on their keyboards.  That explains it all.
