Edge magazine (UK) reviews DA:O - scores it 5/10

I do find it amusing that the British mag dumps on the voice acting in a game where everyone has a British accent. I thought it sounded fake, too - and I've repeatedly posted here that I think bad accents are just covering bad voice acting, but it sounds great to an American audience.

This review is incredibly stupid, written by someone who seemingly has never written any kind of review before. Claptrap, utter bilge, and nonsense.
There is room for disagreement about DaO or any other game. But this review is not disagreement, it is flaming incompetence.

Please stop with the namecalling in the thread. Neither the writers/editors of Edge nor anyone participating in this thread should be insulted based on their opinions, and continuing to do so WILL get this thread shut down.
Thanks!

Look, I am very critical. Especially when it comes to plot and acting... Dragon Age was top notch. What the!? I am so... confuzzled. Why didn't they critique the things that are usually critiqued? The animations? The graphics?
p.s The voice acting sounds fake?
edit: Oh, right! It's just to get attention. Silly me. I didn't see that.

Okay, if the guy complained about the graphics, then you could pass it off as some stupid rant that got published but... the voice acting? The story? You have got to be kidding! What is wrong with this guy?

p.s The voice acting sounds fake?Uh... what? What on earth is going on here? The only accents that sounded fake were some of the Orlesian accents and the sultry voice for the PC. I have no words, honestly. I am so confused beyond recognition by that comment.
Modern warefare 2 got a 9/10. That should answer your question.

Whatever the hell do you mean they were unplayable? And plus your supposed to review the game based on its real stuff, not "oh its unplayable WORST GAME EVER", but of course make note on the unplayable part and wait for patch in your review
bethesda sure, they had bugs on their games, but it didn't render them unplayable
I am not to keen on witcher either so probably the 8 is satisfactory
mass effect and jade empire were not unplayable, they actually deserve way more then just a 7...
Unplayable as in progress stoping bugs. Things that dont work at all. Key items missing from the game. Stuff like that. Have you played VTMB Version 1? Try it. Come back and tell us your experience with it and give us your own Version 1 review. Thats why there are updates for each game in later issues. Thats why you NEED to READ the FREAKIN REVIEW before you go saying that "it got a 6".
Dont give too much weight into the number itself. READ the review. All of it. Only then you will know.
I played VTM: Bloodlines three times before I patched it. I, personally, never noticed any bugs or glitches.
To be honest, I almost never do notice them either, but that just tells me that the game plays well enough -
ok, I noticed them in Lionheart and TOEE.

I heard it was pretty, "meh" so I didn't end up buying it. That bad?

Same here. I never got any game breaking bugs for Bloodlines and even though there were a few weird happenings in my game, it didn't bother me in the slightest.
I would say the same for DA, but I did get a bad Leliana bug where she wouldn't let me talk to her and I hadn't done her quest yet, so that was a little upsetting. I didn't get mad at anyone, though. I just waited for the patch.

They know that if they give it a bad review and slam it, it will bring more attention to their unknown magazine.
It's a ploy to get people to visit their website and buy their magazine with this controversial review.
If anything I will never buy their magazine nor even visit their website for slamming a game that is one of the best I've ever played in the past 10 years.
Edge magazine is not the voice of the gamer but of corporate greed.

Call it "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: why the **** am I the only super special highly trained solider that can not jump 2 damn feet.
It just felt like the same game. All the way down to the super sneak sniper mission, the high speed chase scene at the end, and 3 quick time events that finish the game.
Oh another helicopter crash, a nuke killing you in a worthless eyecandy scene, and the removal of leaning out around corners... your not missing anything imho. Also dual wielding guns at least MW1 still hadsome sense of realism to it.

Hey guys! Don't forget that Edge gave PS:T 3/10. Their main criticism: you die too much and getting back up "cheapens death." LOL!
I'm not even very fond of PS:T and even I can see that's terminally stupid.
Seconded.

Let's put it like this: did you know that magazines were ONLY given a pre-release review copy of MW2 if they signed a contract in advance stating that it would receive an exceptionally positive review?Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360 version) - 9/10
Edge is one of (too) many magazines who actually signed it, throwing away ALL their credibility and basically admitting they're biased and care more about their income than about giving a honest review.
For all it matter, the "reviewer" probably never played DA:O at all, or is someone who's usually into racing games or WoW instead of proper RPG's.

I read what was provided here as i am not a subscriber to that site. Since i find it unlikely that the OP decided to fabricate his own quotes and attribute them to Edge, i will take them at face value.
While i generally disagree with just about everything they wrote that i am able to comment on, the few points where i feel i might have had some agreement with them i was completely turned off by the juvenile snarky comments. Pretty unprofessional, imo.
Exactly. It's not just the fact that they obviously don't like the game, it's the manner in which they do it. Almost as if one of the 'professional' writers gave it to his game-hating attention deficit teenage cousin to review.
I would love to agree that Edge always gives popular, high-selling games a slating but this doesn't really fit in with their glowing 9/10 review of COD:MW2 in the same issue. I know nothing about Bayonetta (10/10), but it looks like some kind of Devil May Cry beat-em-up. Anyone played it? Is it really an almost perfect gaming experience?

Let me put it this way - I bought it on the way to Uni last week cuz I feltI needed some stress relief. Got home around 2:30pm, made some lunch, started playing. Fast forward to 7:30pm and I had finished the *entire campaign* on the normal difficulty setting.
Luckily the place I bought it from had heavily discounted the game - I paid like half of what people on the 360 would have had to, but if I had actually pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 and all, I would have felt seriously ripped off. 5 hours is a complete and utter joke.

It's incredibly ridiculous and half of it is obviously crafted for japanese males (tons of cleavage shots, bum shots, the woman herself is a naughty librarian cliche, really ridiculous outfits) but it is pretty fun in it's over the top-ness (ness?) but I wouldn't give it a 10 out of 10. The plot is ten times worse than DMC4, and I liked DMC4 (Nero? Not so much) so that should say something right there. It doesn't help that I don't like the heroine. She does nothing for me.
It's got a mix of funny and wannabe-western. The protagonist chick isn't hot enough for me to give the game a big score.

Well, DA:O got best PC game and best RPG at the VGAs. 5/10 indeed.
Not that Spike Awards know how to judge games, DA : O and Uncharted 2 were their only sane choices. Just take a look each year at who wins their awards...
Gamasutra knows what they're talking, they are serious and professional. They also chose DA: O as PC GOTY.
