Dragon Quest was a brillant game 4 years ago(It was a last gen game). It was highly polished, had a good story, good voice-acting, really long and was a throw back to old-school jRPGs(Something what Bioware was doing with DA). I know everybody has to like the same games, as you are the god of video games but some people have their own free-will. In my opinion I liked Dragon Quest(at the time) more than Dragon Age but it is only an opinion, like the review.



I think Dragon Age is great but you guys have to realise that not everyone is going to love the game.

What the hell is wrong with you people? How hard can it be to understand that tastes wildly differ?  DQ8 is the slow, methodical and free-roaming game that many will like. DA:O is the fast and frantic, looking straight kind of RPG that many will like as well. Need i remind you that DQ8 received just as great reviews as DAO did across the board not to mention that DQ8 came out 3-4 years ago?

At least DQ8 was crafted properly which didnt lack anything and had no "holes" in its mechanics hence the greater score. Whether you ll enjoy it more or not has little to do with any review.

Edge played DAO..and you are not fooling them.

Not everyone likes the same games.

If you're going to assume the majority dictates quality and Edge is rebelling and/or wasn't bribed adequately, Dragon Quest VIII has excellent reviews overall, garnering an average greater than the console iterations of Dragon Age and only slightly below the PC version (over, to be mindful, what is currently a greater number of reviews due to its age.)

Is it better than Dragon Age? Hell if I know, 'cause it's not my type of game even among Japanese RPGs. I'm simply pointing this out due to the volume of disdain for DQVIII in this thread as well as the previous one while touting Dragon Age's overall reception as a counterpoint to Edge as though DQVIII was an objectively horrible game.

Their score for Dragon Age is certainly low in my opinion, but dragging Dragon Quest into this proves nothing.

I like the game a lot and am happy with it getting a 5/10. I laugh at all these games coming out getting ridiculously high scores when, to my mind, they're all just average, anyway. It's a great average, sure, but like Olympic gymnasts and the citizens of Lake Wobegone, I don't think they're all better than average.

I compare it because i have played both. I would compare DQ8 to Morrowind but thats just being more cruel.

They play out a game only on one platform? That's professional...

How do they compare the versions? Do they just type: "Oh, we played it on X360, but it's probably just as bad on each platform."

Sure, Dragon Age is far from perfect, but there's no way in hell I would give it less then 7.

::eye roll:: out of 124 customer reviews at amazon.com the game has a 4.5/5 score which I weigh with a lot more credulity than any 'magazine' review. So, there seems to be more than just the edge reviewer that is trying to convince everyone else how smart they are.

Dragon Quest 8 doesn't even belong in the review section of a serious industry magazine, at best it should be a sidebar note "If your into childrens game here is a fun one". For an adult to actually take the time to write an article about it and post it in a magazine for adults is emberassing. The Edge has absolutly no credibility at all.

Hey, kids play games as well and a lot of 'em are a hell of a lot of fun. This isn't an "adult" medium. You don't review a film aimed at children or teenagers from the vantage point of a jaded adult, you review it for what it is; a great deal of such games transcend age, unless you're a joyless husk of a human being who can't appreciate Mario, for example.

Awesome. There's no debating that PS:T is one of the best written games ever. Even a "I don't like this style"-review should be so smart to assert its objective qualities. So there's really no greater vision behind Edge. Just a bunch of hacks given total freedom in expressing personal feelings about a game.

You rant on about "what the hell is wrong with you people" and then try to get everyone to see your point of view and troll when it doesn't happen. You know just as Edge has every right to rate Dragon Ages Origin a 5/10 and trash it for the most trivial matters, people who disagree have every right to trash Edge and believe it to be a subpar magazine. You ask everyone to go out and "buy" an issue to see how professional it is, it's just the same as me going to the reviewer and telling him to "buy" a game from a genre he doesn't like to see how good it is. Your logic is inherently flawed and your hypocrisy is amazing.



It's like me reviewing one of YOUR favourite games a 5/10,listing out flaws from the game which seem minor to you, but are major to me, i'm willing to bet you will do a backflip and start firing off arguments. You've already done that here, so maybe you should take your own advice and accept that people can say your "most professional bublication" is a piece of crap. I don't even like edge magazine.  They gave legend of zelda OoT the title of "Best game ever made" but you know what I didn't agree with that.  And do you know what I did because of that?  Nothing because it was just their opinion and I didn't feel the need to go on the internet to **** about it.  I will on the other hand defend their right to give an opinion and yours(even though we get the point you don't agree with theirs).

I have only subscribed to one gaming magazine in my life and it was PSW(about 10 years ago) because it was funny and came with a free DVD.
