Dragon Age 3, the oft-rumoured fantasy RPG sequel that still has yet to be formally revealed by BioWare, could well be in full production judging by an interview with Dragon Age franchise senior writer Jennifer Hepler.
"At the moment, we are at the end of pre-production and beginning of production, so I am bouncing between outlining new stories and starting to write dialogue for the larger plots that are already developed," she told the BioWare blog.

That would be nice, but it could also be SWTOR. I didn't know that before, but from the interview it's clear that she worked on SWTOR. SWTOR expansion perhaps?

Doesn't mean it can't also be Dragon Age III though.

My only question from that interview is who the heck isn't a senior writer there, and what's Luke's title? (If Jennifer is senior, Luke is positively geriatric.)
Are Mary and Sheryl senior writers too?

Sounds good, sounds like they're taking their time a bit more this time. I guess a Christmas 2012 release isn't going to happen then (not that I would have wanted that, but it would have probably made financial sense).
An announcement trailer would make methough. hint hint.
As much as I'd like to see the next DA game in the 2014 or later, I know that this will not (probably) happen. At this point, I hope for a late 2013 release.

I admire your confidence, but unless you have independent corroboration there's nothing in that interview that clearly refers to a DA3 project.
While the SWTOR expansion at least got a formal announcement and trailer at E3 (and possibly just in time too:whistle:).
What surprised me actually was what seemed like a fairly major involvement on her part in SWTOR.
That doesn't mean it can't be DA3, but unless there's a clear announcement or at the very least very, very clear hints this just a rumor. Heck, maybe she's working on a new Sonic RPG...

I imagine since the title was about Dragon Age 3, and it said they interviewed a Dragon Age franchise writer, then it was about the next Dragon Age game.

I advise more careful reading. The title was brought up by the (speculative) article, the Bioware blog didn't say anything about it. Hepler COULD be talking about DA3, but there is no way of knowing for certain, unless somebody credible steps forward and confirms that.
Keep the booze in the cupboard, is my advice. At least for now.

DA2 should have been called Dragon Age: [location of story].
Dragon Age: Origins seemed like it might be a prequel to a longer story.

Unless you think David, Luke, Shmaryl, Jennifer, Sylvia, and Tonia are all working on TOR (they aren't), then the work in question is for the next Dragon Age game.

Um what? Calling it Dragon Age III suggests nothing aside from it being the third game in the series.ReggarBlane wrote...
I hope they don't call it Dragon Age III. That suggests it's the end of a trilogy. I don't think that they can successfully end it at this time with one game.

So when do we get the DA3 forum? You know, since 9 out of 10 post are about DA3 in general on this forum site.
Currently, 24 of 25 threads on the front page of DA2 General Discussion deal with DA3 (the last one is about Dawn of the Seeker) so we already have a DA3 forum: this one.

Lol good point!
How long did it take them to put up the ME3 forum prior to it coming out?

Didn't Bethesda wait until 10 months before Skyrim's release before they made any official announcement? I swear my GameInformer magazine had an article on it every month up to its release.
The first sign of Skyrim came from the VGA awards in December 2010 when they had this teaser trailer, followed by being on the cover of Game Informer the next month, then this awesome trailer in February 2011. Then they didn't release too much until E3 and then much closer to release in November 2011. So, about 11 months from unveiling to release.
With DA2, it was unveiled in July 2010 via GameInformer and released in March 2011.
So if DA3 is slated for late 2013, its possible they unveil it at the VGA's in December this year with some kind of teaser.

And realistically, has there ever been a point where an informed person could have seriously asked the question "I wonder if they will make DA3?"

Didn't they have a teaser for Mass Effect 3 a couple of Video Game Award shows ago? I think you're right.

I rightly concluded that they had moved on to an expansion (curses, Mark!), but I don't think it was even a month before they started talking about things they would do better for the next one.
The trick, I think, is that most of the early stuff was some high-level DA3, but all the details they were floating (like letting companions equip armor without visual changes, and the weird ambient banter system David discussed) were for the expansion (curses, Mark!).
