 So I recently got both Batarian characters and they are just such a blast to play. I never come in first place but they're just so much fun to rock n roll with. It got me thinking, in retrospect the Batarians feel like the forgotten children of Mass Effect. They've always been kind of there- but only in the background and in passing. Besides the vorcha, they're the only species that you can't play alongside in SP and they have little to no story development despite the fact that they played a major role in shaping Shepard's early reputation. You think he'd have a little more history with them seeing as how 2-3 of the backstories were based on the Skyllian Blitz.

All this being said I would love to see a campaign DLC involving the Batarians. Out of all the races, the Batarians were the only species to get hit even harder than humanity. I think it would be awesome if you got a vengeful Batarian squadmate eager to get back into his home system to get revenge. It would be so awesome to explore the Batarian backstory, topple their tyrannical (and indoctrinated) government and maybe even unlock some cool weapons.

On a side note it would be great to re-visit Omega and maybe kick some Cerberus ass alongside some mercenaries from Mass Effect 2. The enemy of my enemy is friend even though they used to be my enemy you know what I mean? Just spit-balling.

Also, Hi, I'm new here.

I agree. It's too bad Bioware thinks of them as just redshirts or cannon folders to kill while making almost every other specie look 20 times more better on purpose.

Yes, i wanted to know more about the Batarians.

Seems like Bioware didn't put much care into them and just wanted us to hate them.

The Batarians are like the worst parts of humanity wrapped up into one species: Incredibly racist, supportive of slavery, under a tyrannical government, with a caste-based culture. It doesn't help that the only ''good guy'' Batarian is only an unnamed character mentioned by Garrus, and he said he was difficult to work with. Oh, and maybe you could call the Batarian you can give medi-gel to in ME2 somewhat good; he seems to appreciate you helping him and gives you info... but beyond those two examples, they're not terribly sympathetic.

I agree I would love to see this, but in all honesty, I don't see a Batarian working under the command of a human.  Even Shepard.  Maybe paragon Shep, but my renegade Fem Shep is hated in the Batarian world..lol..

Marsh the Omega shopkeeper is pleasant enough. Much nicer than your avarage merchant. A straight shooter not angry like a turian, greedy like a volus, fraudulent like an elcor or sycophantic like the asari and salarians.

Agreed. All the races should have had their own mission(s). The conflict between batarians and humans is left unresolved.

Why did everyone forget the Vorcha.... they were only aloud like, what, 1 cameo?

On the topic of Batarians;

I would have loved a squadmate or at least a cutscene showing some amazing Batarian skills. All we get in the ME universe from them are just a simple point and shoot. Thats not really that much.... Would have loved to see them fisting enemies and making them bleed to death.

I DEMAND MORE BATARIAN ACTION SCENES!

It's understandable if you like their MP playstyle, but the Batarians as a species lore wise are pretty despicable. Terrorists, slavers, drug dealers, pirates, etc. If there was no Reaper threat in the ME universe, it would only have been a matter of time before the Alliance "liberated" Hegemony controlled space.

I haven't forgotten about the Vorcha, it's just they're more of comic relief than serious characters. They have no back story to care about, no home worlds being overrun, the reapers haven't even bothered to turn them into units. They're kinda just... there. A Vorcha squad mate would only make for good comic relief and on that subject, you can't really do better than Mordin. He's just too funny.

@Kilo Trip
well no, all the Batarians outside of Hegemony controlled space are notorious pirates and slavers. I think it would be interesting to take the perspective of a refugee who escaped from the destruction of their home system and wants to install a new government that allows more freedom so that hopefully Batarians can learn to co-exist with the citadel races blah blah blah. If you think about it, the Krogan are practically in the same boat. They're generally murderous mercenary bastards with a huge chip on their shoulder. But there's always a good one, take Wrex for example. He is everything that Wreav isn't. I think Batarians have potential.

I don't think so bro the Batarians simply have an almost totalitarian/fascist state in the Hedgenomy we only see the worst of the Batarians and think about most of them are either brainwashed by propaganda or are EDI says batarians are mor amiable without the "eyes" of the Hedgenomy watching

This. Batarians are basically the North Korean of the galaxy I'm not sad they perished even Balak giving me his final units doesn't make me say, "Oh darn I wish I could've known him better I mean him threatening my life and all really makes me reconsider my distaste for batarian space." Really shep's got enough Stockholm syndrome going on with TIM and Miranda he doesn't need to have one for Balak or poor racist Batarians galaxy wide.

So far I've had more sympathy for the robo president in Fallout 3 after he blew himself up at my behest then I do for Balack or the batarians in general sure we found less then 1% who seem decent but considering all the decent ones aren't breeding BWs cut out their species at the attack for Earth there is simply not a big enough population left over to make them a thriving 180 species for ME new franchise.

This is true. I just wish they had gone deeper into this subject, showing how the batarians react and integrate into wider galactic society after a lifetime of government propoganda and lies. It's too bad they didn't explore this more.

Each according to their own fashion, as the French say. Wish that type of outlook on things were more common nowadays.

It is even more true when looking at the galaxy as a whole; given its size, there just cannot be any one "true" approach to organizing society, any one "true" norm of ethics, any one "true" form of government.
Certain descriptions on planets in Batarian space already make it clear that the invasion of the genocidal space-bots shattered the old status quo in the Hegemony, especially the one of Khar'Shan and one of the colony-worlds where it is made clear that the majority of Batarian domestic resistance is opposing the puppets set up by the Reapers who usurped the Hegemony.

As such, I do hope we get more screen-time of the Batarians in content to be released, such as a Batarian firing line saving some Alliance grunts' behinds after Hammer arrives on Eartth, once the EC fixes things. Hopefully.

 They're not my favorite species in the game, but I think they might deserve a SP squad mate.

We've only really seen them as thugs, so I think it would be cool to see a cultured, thoughtful, high ranking warrior from their home world.

I still like to have another Krogan or Geth on the team though.
