Come to think of it. The Catalyst never even told him to shoot the tube.

How did Shepard know he had to shoot the tube? Why was he imagining Anderson shooting it?

The vision of Anderson was a tutorial.

When you steal the ball and have an open court, don't shoot a three.  Go for the dunk.  In other words, don't miss.

Was Shepard missing from the safe distance that the shooting started? No. Walking towards what should have been a certain death is completely stupid.

Why Frodo didn't throw the ring from eagle?

Because the ring was already destroyed by then. Do you people remember anything that happens? A better comparison to Shepard walking into the explosion would be Frodo and Sam rolling off into the lava while they were trapped on that island. According to the defeatists that would be thing to do. Going to die eventually right?

Except, the Citadel erupts into hundreds of explosions before culminating with a supernova-type explosion.....doesn't matter if Shepard stands where he is and shoots the tube, or if they walk into it while shooting......he should be incinerated either way....

It doesn't matter how many things you could say would have killed Shepard anyway instead of the tube explosions. Survive what you can for as long as you can. There might have been a way to survive, and as we know from BW, there was. So were you to think martyring yourself is preferable, more the fool are you. No wizards on eagles; no Green Dragon; no Valinor.

Shepard had a firearm with unlimited ammo, and is shown to be mroe than capable of looking down said firearm's ironsights.

I'm pretty sure a professional soldier isn't going to miss a target at ~20 meters, especially when that target is a big-ass pane of glass that's taller and wider than he is.

So we could all speculate.

Why is Shepard shooting a prominent piece of equipment in order to activate the Crucible in the first place?

Because it's clearly meant to be symbolic.

I think...

Or it's just...bad.

Probably both, I think.

What would have been great is if Destroy was NOT given to you as an option by Star Kid.  Instead it was the "Screw You,  I'm ending this my way" dialogue option, where Star Kid went 'NoooooOOOOOOoooo...' as you shot up the controls and caused the Catalyst / Crucible combination to self-destruct.  That would have made sense, and been symbolic, and pretty satisfying I think.

why doesnt shep shoot the destroy tube, while holding onto the control rods, then throw himself into synthesises light beam?

what then catalyst?

You get the black or white ending, depending on what order you did all of that in.

Oh, wait! No he doesn't!

Shepard wakes up in concrete.

So I guess the destroy wave turned the citadel into a huge concrete space station...

Couldn't the explosion knock Shep back into the same magic beam that got him/her up to the Citadel in the first place? Why is that so hard to believe?

Did you see the size of the explosion....it covered the entire inner ring of the citadel..even if you used a sniper rifle from 5km away you would still be incinerated.

But then again nothing else made sense

You might want to check it once more ...

The explosion is not that big. If She was standing back from it and not walking into the fire she would not not been touched .

Except, the Citadel erupts into hundreds of explosions before culminating with a supernova-type explosion.....doesn't matter if Shepard stands where he is and shoots the tube, or if they walk into it while shooting......he should be incinerated either way....

yep 1 min 45...look at the size of the main explosion after the mini ones...do you know how big that part of the citadel is.... thats the equivalent of an atomic bomb

Either he's psychic, a crazy person, or the Starchild can make him see whatever it wants him to.

Apparently it's standard military procedure in 2186 to walk towards explosive tubes while firing at them.

It's the N7 way.

Because art, and Shepard is not a cool guy.
Have you seen his dancing? Clearly not a cool guy. He doesn't have the guts to just walk away from the explosion.

I guess it could happen. A bit far fetched. But I guess there is a slim chance for it to happen. But he still has to survive the explosion and shockwave. And he also has to survive the first explosion that happens when he shoots the pipe. That explosion alone is quite big. And since Shepard is a moron he more or less stuck his face in to it.

Because destroying part of Crucible to activate it is already stupid by itself, so Walters wanted to make even dumber!

I can't tell if you are being serious here? I hope not.

Are you saying the blast knocked Shepard back to the magic elevator, down that to the control room (where Anderson and TIM are), then along the long corridor filled with bodies and into the beam?

Seriously???

Haha Image IPB

That is taking positive to the extreme! But hell, I'm in Image IPB

How about this, Sheperd used the last of his strength to fly down the magic elevator, along the corridor and into the beam

Oh yeah, Shepard can fly. In an artistic way tooImage IPB

Yes, because that sounds f*cking stupid and would be improbable to the point of absurdity.
