I don't hate the game. Objectively, it's still a pretty good game even if you take the ending into account. But compared to what the developers made it out to be, to what preceded it and to what it should have been, I find it to be very disappointing.

I have a couple IRL friends that played ME3 who don't visit the BSN.

They think it sucks.

We're not a minority.

I don't hate. Hate is a strong word, i can say me3 has effectively destroyed the franchise.
Correction. The last 10 minutes of Mass effect 3 destroyed the franchise. Replay value of any of the games has just dropped alot.

I did enjoy most of the game, however rushed it was.

...or is it just a vocal internet minority? Me and the majority of my real life friends LOVED the game. Although we all agree the ending was weak and needed a rewrite, overall we thought ME3 was amazing, possibly one of the best games we ever played. Included in this group of friends are 2 writers and designers for tabletop RPGs (myself and a friend, published), one video game designer with a Master's Degree in Entertainment Technology, a number of programmers and developers, and a fair number of people who have nothing to do with the gaming industry.

This suggests to me that perhaps this game is not nearly as hated as it seems, rather that the million people who loved the game felt no need to come on the internet and complain about it. Obviously this is a terrible place to ask this question if I hope to get a real answer, but it was still something I wanted to put out there and see what people had to say.

I thought it was one of the greatest games I had ever played too...Til the ending.

After that I started looking more closely at the entire story to ME 3 and it began to loose its luster overall. Still a fun run n' shoot game though. Just from a story perspective it's got major issues.

More like the vast majority love the bulk of the game but despise the endings. Very few people hate the entire game.

It's probably the worst in the series, tho still playable once or twice.

The game is great, but the auto-dialogue kills any replayability for me. Rannoch and Tuchanka were really well done, but the rest of the game... not so much. There are a lot of flaws in all three games, but ME3 wins in that department, which is truly sad.

It's kinda like badly cooked food. I may love the actual kind of food, but this one time it made me sick. I still love Mass Effect, but this time was pretty meh compared to usual. At least ending wise.

If it wasn't for the fact that my ME3 is digital and I like the multiplayer then I would have destroyed it with a hammer just like I did ME1 and 2.

The awful ending ruins the entire thing. There is also the bit about the captive Rachni queen that is a bunch of crap.

I love it.

Sure it had a weak ending but IMO ME3 is the best in the series.

Tuchanka and Rannoch are some of the best videogame moments ever for me. Also I liked the emotional send off for characters I really cared about like Mordin, Thane, etc.

I just can't wait for ME3 single player DLC.

Fetch quests, sprites, low textures, rushed lazy ass story, horrendous ending...

Pretty strong case there.

No. I love ME3, despite my disagreement with how things should have ended.

I loved the game.  The majority of my RL friends loved the game.  We all agree the ending was spectacularly bad and without a re-write ruins the replay value of the entire franchise.  If you actually paid attention to rather significant number of posts, by FAR what people have problems with are the endings.  You specifically say that you felt they need, not could use but need a re-write.  What seems to be the conflict between your own experience/viewpoint and that of the so-called "vocal internet minority"?  Oh, yeah--your condescension.

Not sure what I said that was THAT condescending, but in answer to your question, I CONSTANTLY see people posting on these forums that it was a bad game, that it is flawed in its entirety, and a million other complaints. I know the ending was weak, but that doesn't change that the game overall was amazing.

You can't point out objective positives. They simply don't exist.

We can point out objective flaws.

There's the fundamental difference.

Hate is a strong word. But, I feel it's appropriate given the ending, Bioware's reaction in leaning on "artistic integrity", and the recent news from Ashley's voice actor that the Extended Cut will "justify" the ending.

@Hackulator

1/3 of your post is regaling us with the qualifications of you and your friends.

The vast majority of the posts are directly related to the ending. Even within this thread itself, the vast majority of complaints are against the endings. There's exceptions, yes. The massive outcry was never "ZOMG ME3 IS TEH SUXORZ!!!!" but against the terrible, terrible endings.

OP:

I do not hate ME3.  I hate ME3's ENDING.  If I hated the whole game I would not be wasting my time here complaining over something I could care less about because I thought the game was fun and enjoyable until getting the ending after being told we'd get 16-17-18 whatever different endings and also being told that MP wouldn't factor into getting the best ending.

Enjoyable combat, great storyline, great score, quality voice acting, a game that caused me to be emotionally invested more than any other single player game I can remember. Now, let me point out that suggesting any opinion on what is a work of art (regardless of whether you think its a GOOD work of art) is OBJECTIVE is silly. However, I can easily point out many things which I think were amazing in the game, if you want to argue about subjectivity vs objectivity when critiquing art I'm not going to waste my time.

Sorry if you thought that was condescending, it wasn't meant to be in any way so. I was simply pointing out that I was getting a point of view from both gamers/consumers AND game developers, which I thought was a valuable bit of data.

I may enjoy game design, but I certainly don't think the fact that I'm involved in it is something to be condescending about, its no more impressive than a million other jobs, and certainly less impressive than many, and I've never been involved in anything anywhere near the quality of ME3.

However, as time goes on I feel like I have seen more and more posts claiming the game as a whole was weak, badly done, and similar claims. Now obviously I'm not doing an accurate survey on all the posts on this forum, so I can only comment on what I feel from perusing the forums when I get a chance. Its possible this impression is just wrong, but even within this thread I see a fair number of people claiming the game in its entirety is not that impressive.

 Great game overall.

God awful ending takes off 1 star.
All the small things that add up take off another.

8/10. Good job ME3

Yeah, I actually do hate it. Y'all can thank the Crucible (the one thing I didn't want in ME3 was a superweapon), horrid fetch quests, and broken themes in the endings for that. I know I'm in the minority, though. But there are plenty that regard ME3 as the weakest game in the series, and hold it in contempt because it was supposed to have the potential to be the best, and should have been the best. Alas, rEApers.

Loved the game and at the time my only complaint was that it needed more development time to polish it and then I hit the endings. It was like being a coach of a football team, watching your star player running for an easy touchdown to win the championship game but he decides to showoff and ends up dropping the ball at the one yard line. Like with the BW devs, all you want to do is run up and grab him and shout, 'What were you thinking?!'
