Does everyone actually hate ME3....

On the one hand the characters were great, the set pieces huge and the atmosphere unbelievable. On the other hand the customisation options were a little sloppy, the journal was borderline useless and it's impossible to get past that terrible ending. There's an analogy that Yahtzee used to sum up the most recent Deus Ex game which I feel is appropriate; It's like opening the door to greet an old friend and engaging him in stimulating conversation for a few minutes before smelling alcohol on his breath and looking down to see his old chap dangling forlornly from his open fly.

But disappointment is a word that travels through my brain everytime I think about the game.
To the degree that I can't even play the first two again. Hopefully I'll get pass that.

99% of the game is superb, which makes it all the more disappointing that the ending the game spent so much time building up to was so vague, contrived and detached.

....then the reaper beam hit me and everything turned to crap. The ending was so bad and unsatisfying it made me realize flaws I hadn't even noticed before. Like the entire thing with the crucible that was pulled from nowhere and how nobody knew what it does or how to use it, or how the dialogue was a lot more linear then in the previous games, or how disapointed I was that my LI made only such a short appearance, etc.
I love the entire ME series, but the ending to ME 3 soured my experience tremendously.

Given the artistic edning and whole rushed and broken priority Earth - frankly, i would not have bought it (not to mention preorder a digital deluxe edition) untill it went on real sale. So - do i hate it? No. do i enjoy the game as a whole - also no, there are good and even great parts but bitterbad ending and priority Earth leaves a bitterbad taste.

The terrible ending has only caused people to apply a microscope to the game and brought to light many other flaws that really shouldn't be there and also made issue of problems that would have otherwise been overlooked. Just a few jarring issues:
- They took a monumental step back with the journal
- You cannot obtain enough EMS through SP alone even with optimal imports and decisions
Well and what about:
- Dumbed down RPG
- COD Like with forced MP
- Autodialogues + cutscene quantity = spending lot of time watching without doing nothing
- Fetch quests quantity (not quality) a little be like ME2 planet scanning.
- Some consequences over some choices seemed not mattering
- Lot of binary choice wheel
This wasn't only the end that wasn't my friend the end
Yes ME1 & ME2 had their issues but we overlooked them because the whole games were great which isn't the case in my op and some "minority" for ME3. The sum of broken things and of course the "cherry (with kernel) on the cake" ending exceeded the "greatness" of the game ... Personaly I really enjoyed only 2 missions Rannoch & Tuchanka, these 2 really felt like ME at his best (like we had in ME1 & ME2) the others, let's say that I rated them from 'mediocre' to 'null'
It's not hate for me it is Disapointment with D uppercase.

The ending, I consider to be atrocious, and I'm referring to the entire Priority: Earth mission. Awful, especially when compared to the Suicide Mission.
Tuchanka and Rannoch are perfect examples of why this game was great. I like Mass Effect 3 more than Mass Effect (the original).
I'll probably get shot for that but I play for the story. Unfortunately, I'm also a completionist. This means in Mass Effect I have to collect every mineral on every planet in the slowest vehicle in the galaxy. I also have to play through all the copy-paste side quests to get to the good stuff - the story.

ME3 was less of a Bioware game and more of what you would expect from EA, as in mediocre.

...or is it just a vocal internet minority? Me and the majority of my real life friends LOVED the game. Although we all agree the ending was weak and needed a rewrite, overall we thought ME3 was amazing, possibly one of the best games we ever played. Included in this group of friends are 2 writers and designers for tabletop RPGs (myself and a friend, published), one video game designer with a Master's Degree in Entertainment Technology, a number of programmers and developers, and a fair number of people who have nothing to do with the gaming industry.
This suggests to me that perhaps this game is not nearly as hated as it seems, rather that the million people who loved the game felt no need to come on the internet and complain about it. Obviously this is a terrible place to ask this question if I hope to get a real answer, but it was still something I wanted to put out there and see what people had to say.
I loved the game, warts and all, and could easily overlook its flaws if the ending wasn't such a collossal cluster****.

That was how great the game was feeling, that made me forget those flaws.
The ending however, not only was the HUGE nail in the coffin, also it acted like an amplifier to all those other flaws.

There's no one polity here. I thought the game was great, and though the ending was incomplete and unclear, it's also not as bad as its press.
This is exactly how I felt. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I loved most of the game. Missions like tuchanka and rannoch made up for the countless fetch quests and poorly done me2 character cameos. But the most important parts of any story are the beginning and ending. IMO those were the two weakest parts of the game. Unlike some other people I can still replay the game by ignoring the end as best I can, but there is simply no excuse for the atrocity that is Priority:Earth.
^This sums up my feelings about the game pretty well.
