^ lol I love it when I start on that and everyone flips the F out. Like I've had French Calvery attacking my War mechs once as they were so far behind.

I'm rezzing this thread since Kotaku has posted a follow-up article.

The community that has sprung up around this is truly impressive. Though if Lycerius intends to grind forward in war for the sake of the story that's unfolded, I forsee this lasting all the way into the grim darkness of the 41st millennium (which by my calculation would be about 3600 turns).

I suppose a Sci-Fi Mod/DLC for Civilization V would be awesome.

CivII and CIV are the best iterations of this franchise.

Played both and though I haven't near anything like that, I had my couple intense and long games too.

That is pretty interesting actually.

Edit:  By the way, i have not played any of these world building games in a long long time.  Any recommendations for the Xbox for something like this or a space empire game or such?

Don't know about any worthwhile 4X games for any console really, but there are a couple great games that will run on pretty much any functional PC. Civilization III for example should run on pracically everything that you can turn on. Civilization IV (the imho best Civ game out there by a looong shot) will work on PCs that would be considered antiquated by today standards, so even if your PC is a couple years old and wasn't top nodge when you bought, it will still work.

For something more recent (and ressource hungry) you can try Sins of a Solar Empire.

And something slightly different would be the X series from Egosoft, which is not really an empire building game per se, but still enables you to create a vast, complex trading empire that you can use to fuel a giant warmachine which you can use to sandbox a rich, detailed and big universe. Want to wipe out whole spacefaring civilizations in realtime with massive armadas? You can do that, just for the hell of it.

I've heard of the solar empire one. I can use my lap top for those type of games because it is a pretty beefy gaming rig. I'll do more research into solar empire and Civ IV. Thanks for the recommendations. (The reason I asked about consoles is that I have become very spoiled gaming in my living room easy chair and big screen tv.)

If you (or anyone else for that matter) wants to get into the Civilization series, I have one piece of advise for you.

Most people will likely look for the latest iteration of the franchise, which would be Civilization V. And frankly, you wouldn't be much wrong, because it is tailored to beginners for the most part.

But once you feel comfortable, go and play Civilization IV. It plays slightly different (tetragonal instead of hexagonal being the biggest change and the ony you'd feel the most), but it is much, MUCH more complex and rewarding to understand and use the complexity. Also, it has a metric ****ton of modifications of all kinds (space empire mods, Dune mods, fantasy RPG game mods, historical scenario mods, larger and improved tech-trees, more civilizations, units, etc.).

Thanks. I will find a way to win the mindless rabbles of earth under a single banner  :D  But I'm also interested in Civ II which neither GoG or Steam have.

Well okay, be sure to watch the High Council clips for hype!

Only real reason to play Civ II over any other Civilization game. Such a shame they cut the High Council ...

Spectacular grade-A Command and Conquer acting right here.
