No, we're talking about a version of star trek's green space babes. Because that's what the Asari are, according to the guy who created the Asari.

What you've been doing in this thread is nothing but a posteriori handwaving and rationalizations to excuse design decisions that have nothing to do with such excuses.

Oh, please. It's a role playing game, we take the universe as it is and react to it. If we stop and question every design of every character, we lose that aspect of roleplaying. Reguardless, to how the asari were design and why, in the end based on the lore they are still an alien race with a complete different consept of sexual behavior and ideals.

You mean you are going to ignore the real reasons why those characters are designed the way they are. You are going to dismiss the words of their creators, because you prefer to make up your own explanations which, despite having nothing to do with reality, suit better your imagination.

Ok.

I'm not really interested in talking with people that detached from reality.

If you want to talk about how they made them too sexy, bring the males into the conversation as well which you have been avoiding.

Show me a crotch window in a male uniform, especially in an old male who's supposed to be a sage and a religious leader for his people, like I showed you the huge boob window of Matriarch Benezia.

1.Sorry, but this is a role playing game. Do we really stop and ask why a person is design like that during the game? It not like their isn't a male version of an open clevege in ME...
Posted Image Seriously, why has this been brought up yet?
2. I can easily post a pick of that from DA: O.=]

It has.

In the Mass Effect Art book, it is said that Thane has his chest exposed  to reflect the fact that he needs to keep it dry, so he must avoid sweatting on it.

His cleavage is the only cleavage actually explained and that makes sense.

Overly sexy? Why? Because there's no fatty's?

Who cares......Ashley has sex with her underwear on(don't ask me how)

Traynor showers in her underwear(don't ask me why)

ME has a mature rating. The equivalent of a R rated movie.....plenty of games show nudity....boobs, ass, hell, even vagina (Red Dead, God of War, Witcher 2)

Bioware has no balls and has obviously fully conformed to the casual gamer....or they're scared of those morons at Fox news(why? Idk, like I said, they're all morons at Fox news)......

This is just a minor issue when compared to the ending.....but like the ending, its just stupid and lazy

An excuse like...and alien culture with a complete differen moral of sex, body image, and exoser.

Yes, same reason why Asari are an all lesbian race perhaps, but why the Asari looks like female it has never been explained, technically they could have looked like men with vaginas and it would have still made sense, but they had to sell it based on the sex factor, we have enstablished that. But again, at least they pretended Thane had a reason to be what he looks like.. what reason has EDI and Miranda cameltoe to show?

Well for once you should ahve had the grace to read the thread, because it is not as simple as you've put it in your post, and second, I thoguht to discuss something that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ENDING.... but I forgot how obtuse some people here can be.. my bad...

I kind of agree. I mean, attractiveness is not really the issue, I just think they need to expand their idea of what constitutes "attractive."

Granted, they are restricted due to time and resources, but not every female needs the same skinny waist, huge (sometimes increasing in size across games) chest, high heels and constant butt-shots. And not every male needs uber-muscled shoulders the size of a cartoon character and rock-hard abs.

Sometimes "cute" or "average" is more appropriate (or even more attractive) than "supermodel." (Which is personally why Tali's photoshop was a little disappointing to me, but that's another topic entirely.)

Then again Bioware is pretty typical with its "relationship" stuff (love ends in sexy-sex before dramatic mission!) in every one of their newer games for every character, so in the end I remain unsure what their approach to appearance is.

I see many people here miss the fact that exposing the human body is a very commonly used way to picture a time of liberation from our old world roots/traditions in Science-Fiction. If women are treated as sex objects in our world, just picture some naturally sexy yet powerful and self controlled woman characters in your sci-fi. If blacks are being discriminated in our world, make a black protagonist saving the day in a future every human equal to another. Or do it for homosexuals, migrants, orphans... you get the idea.

Yes, Miranda is overly sexy. But she is not some selfless, backwards, passive woman character unlike some 43265 unimportant women characters you see in Rockstar's games. Like or not(see OP), she is both a round and strong character who could compete with anyone. Her looks do not change who she is or how capable she is. This and plus the fact that she never use her looks to accomplish her goals tells us Mass Effect universe do not lower status of sexually attractive women. Or any women.

In fact I always thought the sexuality in Mass Effect was intentionally gave us a nice reason why we should rethink the ways how we think of sexuality in our society.

Look at the Asari. Aren't they the great example for the ultimate feminist society? An Asari can choice to shake her ass in clubs, join the military, be a politician, high class hooker, scientist, mercenary bla bla and whatever she becomes her society will not react with discrimination. They don't even show any sign of supremacy or elitism against the rest of the galaxy.

In short, what's not to like here?

I hate this argument, my girlfriend makes it every time we watch a TV show or movie. Humans respond to physical attractiveness. It is our nature. I personally prefer looking at attractive people in my recreational media rather than "realistic" (whatever that means) Walmart people.

Who's to say Ashley's sister didn't just give her an extreme makeover for her birthday? I do agree that wearing an oxygen mask in a vacuum is rather silly though, drives me crazy.

Sex sells, this isnt' really big news. It's been pretty clear for a while that Bioware and EA are only interesting in selling.

In real life if you met someone that is perfect and flawless at your eyes chances are you workship that person somehow, raising it above many other right and respect it am I right? If all caracthers are made in a way like that it will make your experience more presant and maybe more personal as well that how the companies hook you up to their stuff. Expecially because not everyone have the oportunity to hang around super models that have a crush on you. XD

Another note is that the thing that are exposed as they are, often are a lot less presant and being a game that not how you should do it.

It dont bother me much, I play for fun and a sometime a "hot chick" is welcome sigh, but I like the cute ones better. XD

This is the reason I love the character Tali, because she does not need to bat her eyelashes or appeal to me for her looks, she needs to work harder than the other pretty characters to be liked because all the social interactions are limited and mostly comes from her voice and personality.

You lost me there.

So your like for Tali had nothing to do with the fact that she wears an extremely form-fitting uniform and has both nice hips and a great @ss?

Let me just say that I'm skeptical. If Bioware had instead made the Quarians short, rotund creatures like the Volus, I think it is safe bet that the percentage of Talimancers would have dropped by about 98%.

Bioware rolled the sexy out for her just as much as they did for Miranda, or Liara, or Ashley.

Having character models that took into account every possible body shape would also strain resources. I think Bioware made the right decision in spending those resources elsewhere.

Besides, while 'fat' body types might make sense for random NPCs they wouldn't for crew members and squad mates aboard the Normandy. Being physically fit is part of the requirements for being a Marine, and they would be as well for Shepard's alien allies. He couldn't go into battle with people at his back who would need to take frequent breaks to catch their breath.
