Why Firebase Jade is a death trap

I like this map, but I've noticed that in every single match I've played there, we end up surrounded by enemies.

Nobody seems to care about spawns, or watching each other's backs. Everybody focus on "holding the upper area", without considering how easy it is to lose it. Allow me to explain with the help of a crudely drawn map.

I myself try to begin each round on the pillar room at the upper-right side. I'm not sure if it's a good place. Sometimes, the enemy spawns right behind me. I didn't know they could spawn with a player standing so close.

But anyway, my point is: If you really want to hold the upper area, and take advantage of that oh so tempting sniper's balcony, somebody will have to stay behind and watch that room. Keep it in mind, specially in silver and gold.

PS: I did not mark ALL the spawn points, just the ones relevant to my point. I don't think I know where the spawn are in the lower area...

Lovely post. One of the few genuinely good and informative nowadays. 10/10, including the art.

Same story with the reactor hack objective on the ledge near the extraction zone - if the whole team is stacked there, the enemies spawn to the right of the LZ - literally 5 meters away. Deathtrap.

If you really want to camp on Jade, do it in the room in the lower right. They can only come from two directions there and you can see them a mile ahead. Many cover positions behind the desks there, too and an ammo crate directly to your left.

I always stay behind (in the stairs, on top-right of that map), and you can get the respawn just in front of you (or around you) anyway :(

Not very common, but happens to me at least once per game.

The first thing I do when a new wave starts - I check those three spawn points...

I've tried, but nobody ever comes with me (I play randoms).

If I ever try gold with randoms again, I'll use my mic to try and get them to camp there. It's a really fun spot for a Salarian engineer anyway.

You mean the enemy spawn? They do spawn really close around that area, even if you're there, don't they? I don't think it's like that in any other map, it's really scary sometimes.

I've so far only played this map with me QE and usually lob a turret from the landing zone down the narrow defile between the two main spawn points.

Oh, and don't forget to get out of cover during extraction, because:

I agree ... that section is a death trap ... and with the Commendation and Victory packs packing N7 weapons ... low level barely bronze players now think they can roll silver .. it is so annoying ...

Also ... +10 points for your banshee drawing ... I am still LOL'in ...

There is one more spawn point in the lower area where you have another arrow that shows them advancing to the LZ. They spawn in somewhere overhead of the lower area there, and drop down into that zone. You can see the spawn when you have Hunter Mode on.

I also wonder if there's one more spawn point right under the LZ, or in that section just below the LZ.

The room in the lower right where you have the spawn point still seems to be the most holdable location on Jade... you can shoot across at spawns and ones that trickle down via the 2 stairways to the opposite side, and you can shoot to your left at spawns from the LZ direction.

But few people seem to want to play that room. The upper section is a killzone even if you watch all the passageways as you suggest... you can get overrun from the LZ side and the stairs, and it becomes a death trap.

Love the pictures.

But yeah that map... seems Bioware didn't quite polish it enough because it's pretty much the only map where I actually see enemies spawn no more than 5 meters from me.

It's truly rare I have a bad match on Jade. I've noticed only the most severe cases of stupid will interfere with players playing tag with each other from spot to spot. Goddess on the other hand is a complete nightmare for me. Enemy spawn and choke points around every corner = nerd rage.

I really like your drawing - is it free hand or did you use a program for it?

On topic: I'm pretty sure thats the point of the map design - fail to cover all angles, fail to succeed the mission.

I like your drawing :) I also try to stay in between the 2 spawn points on the top right of the map but I have had incidents where I was just getting there and 2 phantoms magically appeared in front of me. It was scary =/

Try the room with the medical gear and bed in it, just to the far right of the LZ after you enter the building. You can easily hold it, since you can watch the room downstairs (where the ammo crate is that lets you take cover - especially good if you have an AJ with bubble - nothing gets out of there alive) and the only other entrance is to your left, which can be just as easily be defended. Plus you have an ammo crate directly in the same room, so you can hold out pretty much indefinitely.

Agreed. Excellent defensive spot with about the most convenient ammo crate placement ever. A Turian/Hurricane in that room is like a belt fed weapon.

Yeah, I was going to put it but I wasn't sure.

I suspected this too, but right now I don't know if the spawn is there, or a bit outside on the lower balcony. It would be a bit strange for it to be directly below the LZ... Maybe it has something to do with how glitchy the extraction can be?

The map itself is hand drawn, the text, arrows and everything else is computer made.

I also forgot to mention that it was all made from memory and could not remember how the middle section of the map was (hence the "?" symbol were some stairs are supposed to be)

Exactly !
OP : this is (or what seems to be) the point of the game. If there was only one location to hold in order to win the map, then there would be no challenge. That's why FBWGG is controversed. You need to act in concert with your team, with someone checking the balcony, another checking the low area (on your map) and others checking the upper one.

Yes, people always camp near the LZ zone, I stay near the stairs to watch the enemies spamming there/the room + S1 and, yes, they now spawn even when you're close.
