To unlock stuff faster. I don't particularly enjoy playing Gold, especially since I only ever play with randoms.
Why do you play Gold?

Fun mostly, but the exp is also nice on sub lv 20 chars and the credits is a nice bonus.

Honestly? For the credits.
I'm just a casual gamer, and not a very good one at that. Gold matches are a tad stressful to me, especially against Reapers. I can carry my own weight and all, but sometimes I feel like I could contribute more in Silver.

Credits.
Gold is a mode that...well...doesn't make sense. Hard to explain what I mean, but it seems to me like these MP missions are supposed to be missions that could conceivably take place within the boundaries of the Mass Effect 3 story setting. Even if it all boils down to "SHOOT ALL THE THINGS", they give you objectives to give you a logical reason to be there. Even when you first deploy on a map, Control gives you an explanation of why you're there. "We have to ratake this facility" or some sh*t like that.
Which means BW wants you to have a sense of actual immersion within the larger story setting they've created. They want you to have the sense that these missions fit into what's going on in the SP story and events.
But I was playing Gold against Cerberus on Jade last night. Two Atlases appeared and we focused on those. We blew those up and two more appeared right behind so quickly that it looked as if Cerberus had simply deployed an entire line of Atlases at once.
Then you got Nemeses scuttling around like cockroaches. We were posted up in this control room at one corner of the map and while we'd focus on other enemies, these b*tches would slip right into the room with us and hide behind cover two feet from some of the party members. We didn't immediately notice when they would do this because at that close a range, they'd never pop out of cover to shoot. And since they don't do anything other than hide and run, they had nothing to do but hang out with us.
On Gold, the enemies stop making sense because the goal of the design is simply to be as difficult as possible. Spam Atlases, spam Phantoms...spam all the toughr units...and the units stop making tactical sense.
And worse, the easiest way to defeat this tactic is to either hole-up in a place where you can funnel them with easily spammed powers, or to bomb the spawn points. On Glacier, with two Adept classes, we can hold that basement area against an endless tide of every Geth unit they throw at us. Reave and Warp, Warp and Shockwave, and so on. Or look at FB:WGG. It's a basic and logical tactic, but it's so f*ckin' boring.
Gold is so difficult, but at the same time, it has such a practical and efficient solution that success often doesn't have any value in and of itself. I've played Gold matches that felt easier than Silver because of the implementation of a few elementary tactics.
So the only value to me is the increased reward for completion. I've gotten the Achievement for completing all the original maps on Gold. That was a goal for a while, but now that I've done that, it's just about the money. Because no other goal makes sense.
For me at least. But that's what this thread is about, after all.

Because on silver you can just ran around like an idiot and still win. There is no big challenge in that. I usually do a silver for warmup, or for levelling, and then go on with golds. On gold teamwork actually helps you. Do have to say I only play with friends.
Oh and we also do silver if we can't get more than 2 people to play. The fact that we still own silver with 2 players by just running around and being careless says enough, I think.

After you get used to gold, going back to silver is ... less intense/fun

For the sole fact that I no longer take Silver seriously. Even on Solo. I need a challenge or else I should just go outside and pick a fight with someone.

because silver is extremely easy.
Gold is more decent not very difficult either, but decent.

For the credits, nothing more. I prefer Silver or Bronze when it comes to playing for fun.

Only for the credits. It takes me between 19 to 24 minutes to earn 70,000+ credits on Gold.
I hope that they will have Platinum someday with 150,000+ credit reward.

Credits and peer pressure. If I have no one to play with online, I'll join silver with some randoms. I'm not good enough to solo silver yet, though, so silver with randoms can be more difficult than gold.

This. It'll make my 30 minute grind more worthwhile.

I do it for the cash. Otherwise I would play bronze.

For the credits.
Unless I'm farming with friends, Gold is very difficult for me and therefore stressful and frustrating.
Silver is a challenge for me with lvl 20 chars but fun when I'm in the mood. Bronze is fun.

For the $$$, have more fun on silver due to less megalomaniacs, control freaks and mediocre players who are deeply convinced of their own elite skills.

I don't... Silver gives me more than enough credits, plus I like playing the "medium" difficulty the most. And with randoms, it's a challenge enough...

I play for the cash too but I disagree about the lack of leet players in Gold. You get plenty of obnoxious tools on Gold who probably got themselves paired up with a good team once upon a time and now they think they're god's gift to the world. There are so many awful gold players.
When you get a good team going though, damn. Hold onto it for dear life and you'll be rolling in money.
I think silver is more fun because it's less harsh and cover-based but Gold is definitely worth it for the satisfaction that comes with completing something difficult and being rewarded handsomely for it.

Because it's the only mode where I actually have fun.
Silver is a garunteed extraction, unless people try and melee bahsees, and bronze... bronze, well you know how bronze is.

Speaking of trying to melee banshees, just finished a glacier/reapers match where our Kroguard teammate tried to melee all the things. Saved him multiple times from banshee grabs with proxy mine claymore combo. Smh, some should really stick to lower difficulties if they can't learn their lesson the first time they tried that and almost died.

Bronze is too easy for me anymore.
Silver is just about right, but I have to be doing terrible to fail. I can usually carry a bad team at this level.
Gold is actually challenging for me, a good way to push my limits with any class and work for my reward.
