I actually thought DA2's Marethari was hotter. As was Merrill. Admittedly, Zevran didn't fare as well, but the original Zevran wasn't really all that handsome either.

I wouldn't deride the appearance of the Overlord elves, since those games are parodies and the elves in that setting are just lame hippies.

Alot of artists just do it because they can, I think everyone could do their own different version if they practiced. Many freelance artists have no jobs, I know because i'm one lol. It's hard to get anything these days...

We know. Elton John is dead acknowledged in his post that Overlord elves are intentionally exaggerated, unattractive, over-the-top parodies of the modern elf sterotype. The problem is that DA2 elves aren't (or if they are supposed to be, it's very poorly conveyed). We're told seriously over and over through different games and forms of media that most Thedas humans find most Thedas elves to be alluring or attractive, yet making 99% of the race look... ugh, just suspends disbelief.

I think the elves look alright. I couldn't image my Surana or Mahariel with these changes but...they could be worse.

Would you want your movie stars to be all ugly.... Answer no, you would want at least decent actors, same goes to the game models, espically the elves they must look 100% better than anyone. Ask yourself this? If your life-span was 50 years you wouldn't give a penny if you had a beard and you smelled of dog meat... If your immortal you have to look after your apperance....

It's mentioned multiple times over many different occasions, not just one codex entry. Leliana will tell an elven Warden that well-trained elven servants are highly valued in Orlais, partly because they are "pleasing to look at." Zevran will reveal that the Crows like to pick up elven recruits because humans find elves attractive, therefore it's easier to seduce them, therefore it's easier to kill them. In DA2 the magistrate's son abducts and kills elven children because he considers it "not fair that they're born so beautiful" (on top of his own violence and insanity), with not a hint of irony. There are many other little comments sprinkled here and there throughout the franchise, and the new designs just seem to contradict it.

So...every Thedasian human finds every other Thedasian human attractive?  Not EVERY human could possibly think elves are beautiful. And why do you assume that humans find elves attractive in the same way that they find other humans attractive?

Yeah, I really don't care. Hollywood has it's own problems I tend not to take what they find "beautiful" at face value.

Because Humans in reality envey all people that having something they don't. Some people do horrible things to people that have beauty, like cutting their hair and sometimes throwing acid on their faces or stabbing them to deathin the wood, also rape is a common one. If there was someone better you in everyway you know you would be jealous....

Why are elves so short? I hate being short, but love being an Elf. I am tall, I like being tall... let me be tall and an elf... and would it be hard to make elves look normal again?

Seriously though anything about cultural distinction would be awesome. Why are the Tevinter people jerks, the Orlesians ****s, the Ferelden smelly dog people, the Rivaini people pirate ****s, the Antivan people ****s who'll stab you in the back for funzies?

Seriously I want to know this, right now they seem kinda one dimensional and I want to know more about them so they'll stop being so cut and dry.

And can we bring back some Native American flair to the Elves, I would love that.
