If not all Thedasian humans find every elf attractive...why does it matter that the elves aren't attractive to you?
And yet enough of Thedasian humans are supposed to find elves attractive enough that they often comment on it while they almost never comment on how unattractive or ugly elves are; yet the new elf designs lead most players to believe that it should be the other way around.
Why are we arguing about anything really? Why is this a forum?
I don't know, why did you enter this forum and why are you still posting?
If we agree that every human has their own preference then we must assume that every Thedasian human has theirs, what Leliana, the crazy elf murdering guy, and even Zevran have to say shouldn't even matter. Since they are their own individual people.
And yet they all hint that the majority of Thedasian humans find elves alluring. Leliana basically says that the majority of Orlaisian nobles value elven servants because they are "nimble, dexterous, and pleasing to look at." Zevran basically says that the majority of Crows value many elven recruits because the majority of human targets find them attractive, so it would be easier to seduce and kill them. Orlaisian nobles and Antivan Crows and even other nobles and human peasants from other countries would not go to the trouble of finding elven recruits or servants (or victims) if their level of attractiveness for humans was not more profitable than human servants/recruits/(victims).
To say nothing of all the other random comments from random NPC's I can't place off the top of my head.
When...have they shown attraction to physical traits that we value? If we are going to say that elves have to fit THIS form of attractiveness. There has to be a reason for that and "We as real humans consider these traits to be beautiful so that means Thedasian humans, think the same way" is not a good one.
And the point flew right over your head. I will try one more time: we, as humans, in large numbers, tend to be attracted to other humans. (Wishing to mate with horses or sheep is not as common as all that). Thedasian humans look and act just like us, and Thedasian humans, in large numbers, tend to be attracted to other Thedasian humans. So, Thedasian humans, in large numbers, do not have such
vastly different standards of attractiveness to us as you like to imply.
With me so far?
The majority of players seem have revealed that they did not find the majority of the new elves to look that alluring, desirable, attractive or beautiful. Sure, some rare individual occasionally comes up and and honestly admits they find the majority of the new elves attractive, but it seems much more often than not they basically say that one or two look all right (like Fenris or Merrill), they think the designs are
okay or they don't care how hideous they are as long as the elves look like
anything but DA:O. That's hardly a testament overall DA2 design attractiveness, yet the majority of Thedasian humans seem to express favour in their looks the way the majority of players do not.
We as players tend to think of attractive DA2 elves to be the exception to the rule, yet Thedasian humans tend to treat attractive DA2 elves as the rule, and their reactions are treated earnestly instead of a parody or with irony. I think there's a disconnect between the responses the designs are supposed to elicite and the ones they more often do.
This all boils down to what you want anyway. "It would be enough for me if many or most of the elves at least looded passably attractive"...to you. Yeah.
And yet forums like this exist and enough people agree that it's still going. Sure, it's just me.
