LOL you have totally lost me, what does that crap mean in english?

It means that if humans envy the "beauty" of the elves, that would mean humans are not capable of being beautiful. Thus, elves should not look anything like humans which is the case in DAO.
However, you argue that it's the DA2 elves that are ugly.

If not all Thedasian humans find every elf attractive...why does it matter that the elves aren't attractive to you?

And yet enough of Thedasian humans are supposed to find elves attractive enough that they often comment on it while they almost never comment on how unattractive or ugly elves are; yet the new elf designs lead most players to believe that it should be the other way around.

Why are we arguing about anything really? Why is this a forum?

I don't know, why did you enter this forum and why are you still posting?

If we agree that every human has their own preference then we must assume that every Thedasian human has theirs, what Leliana, the crazy elf murdering guy, and even Zevran have to say shouldn't even matter. Since they are their own individual people.

And yet they all hint that the majority of Thedasian humans find elves alluring. Leliana basically says that the majority of Orlaisian nobles value elven servants because they are "nimble, dexterous, and pleasing to look at." Zevran basically says that the majority of Crows value many elven recruits because the majority of human targets find them attractive, so it would be easier to seduce and kill them. Orlaisian nobles and Antivan Crows and even other nobles and human peasants from other countries would not go to the trouble of finding elven recruits or servants (or victims) if their level of attractiveness for humans was not more profitable than human servants/recruits/(victims).

To say nothing of all the other random comments from random NPC's I can't place off the top of my head.

When...have they shown attraction to physical traits that we value? If we are going to say that elves have to fit THIS form of attractiveness. There has to be a reason for that and "We as real humans consider these traits to be beautiful so that means Thedasian humans, think the same way" is not a good one.

And the point flew right over your head. I will try one more time: we, as humans, in large numbers, tend to be attracted to other humans. (Wishing to mate with horses or sheep is not as common as all that). Thedasian humans look and act just like us, and Thedasian humans, in large numbers, tend to be attracted to other Thedasian humans. So, Thedasian humans, in large numbers, do not have such vastly different standards of attractiveness to us as you like to imply.

With me so far?

The majority of players seem have revealed that they did not find the majority of the new elves to look that alluring, desirable, attractive or beautiful. Sure, some rare individual occasionally comes up and and honestly admits they find the majority of the new elves attractive, but it seems much more often than not they basically say that one or two look all right (like Fenris or Merrill), they think the designs are okay or they don't care how hideous they are as long as the elves look like anything but DA:O. That's hardly a testament overall DA2 design attractiveness, yet the majority of Thedasian humans seem to express favour in their looks the way the majority of players do not.

We as players tend to think of attractive DA2 elves to be the exception to the rule, yet Thedasian humans tend to treat attractive DA2 elves as the rule, and their reactions are treated earnestly instead of a parody or with irony. I think there's a disconnect between the responses the designs are supposed to elicite and the ones they more often do.

This all boils down to what you want anyway. "It would be enough for me if many or most of the elves at least looded passably attractive"...to you. Yeah.

And yet forums like this exist and enough people agree that it's still going. Sure, it's just me.

Faerunner your wasting your time on him, hes a biased jerk... it's obvious. He is just looking to argue for the shake of arguing. And WOW fae you know how to write a vaild argument, I salute you! That guy has really ticked me off and I can't type properly because i'm so tired -_-

Got you, No just because they think the elves are attractive doesn't mean they think themselves as ugly, that guy is a total reject he probably doesn't even know what the word envy means...

Ok the humans envy the elves because they are better at showing their great beauty among other traits e.g. they are everything the humans could be if they tried. The elves are the oppisite reflection of what humans should be.... The humans see this, a reminder of what they could not be because of their cruel minds and dark desires and it is a very annoying reminder for them, so they march a great crusade to destroy them, then ruin their honourable image just to make themselves feel less bad about themselves as a race in general.

Also they didn't just envy their greater beauty, they were jealous of their closeness to the Gods, their great power and Empire, their knowledge of the world, their perfection, their moral (most elves have a great moral but a few elves fall astray, due to tragic events in their lives) They also had a strong hatered for the elves immortality....

Men e.g. the human race will always hate what they can't have or what they see is better than themselves.... Its their greatest flaw; GREED, they always want to dominate what they can't have. The world and nature is an example of the elves, humans raped the earth because they wanted to dominate it all.

Another example that reminds me of is Tolkien Books

"Men often envied Elvish immortality and sought to capture it for themselves."

Tolkien's elves were intelligent, sensitive, and over the years have acquired a great knowledge; and just like the old legends, they are superior to humans. In his book the Silmarillion, he states that though both races look the same when they are first created, over time the Elves come to be shaped by their 'greater wisdom,' and 'skill and beauty'. That's how they grew so tall.

Because of this they were chosen to be the favourite race in the eyes of their maker; while the race of Men decided to abuse their gifts for their own selffess gains. They became an ugly reflection of what the elves were not. So the race of Men slowly fell from grace and beauty, any honour that they had in the first age was rotten away.

Thats why the humans envy elves.

Do you come up with this stuff on the spot or just have a reeeeealy warped vision of the human-elven conflict in the DA universe?

I would go with "Came to me on the spot" I recently read the similarion, book borrowed from a friend. So it just pops in my head. Damit I wish I didn't read it, i'm still trying to get over the Elven City of Gondolin :crying: poor elves...

I'll let you decide if it was a good move, a bad move, or a lateral move.

I prefer the elves in DA2. If all elves got the same time and details like Marethari, Merril, Orsino and Athenril for example I would be very happy. Also BioWare, stop it with the clown make-up please.

BioWare should stick with this design, end of story....

Otherwise why did humans have elves as their hair designers and make up artists? As well as sex slaves....

Well they got the right idea for their games, but BioWare can't.... Just shows you how much they have fallen, maybe DA2 fits right in their legacy. That BioWare was beautfiul like the elves and then became a bad apple... "You are what you make/design"

That won't happen though. Just as all humans won't get the same treatment as Hawke's family, Meredith, Alistair, Leliana, or Anders; just as all dwarves won't get the same treatment as Oghren, Sigrun, or Varric.

They spend resources on making the primary NPCs we interact with looking good, and minor quest people or crowd fodder are allowed to look worse. There are two options: spend the same amount of resources to make all NPCs look the same, rather than have a few exceptional ones look better, or take resources from some other area of the same to bring the lagging NPCs up to the standards of the superior NPCs.

I don't really understand why everyone thinks ALL elves must look wonderful. There are always going to be more attractive persons among all peoples, and that level of attractiveness will vary among onlookers. Even if you go by the standard elf lore of elves being perceived as beautiful by humans (as Zevran references), that doesn't take into account yourself (the PC) being of another non-human race.

I agree 100% with your clown makeup comment though. Some of those choices, on elves and humans are just... no.
