Elves should look exactly like Bioware wants them to look.
This.
Let them design their game the way they see fit, eh?
Elves in Dragon Age 3 should Look more like Forgotten Realm Elves

"Hideous" is subjective. Some people didn't care for the look of the elves in DA2, and some people were quite fond of their appearance. I'm sure that Bioware has heard the criticism already (since this very subject has been rolling around for well over a year) - and will take into account the concerns on this and other elements of the game, as well as the praise for things that folks have said they did like and enjoy.Faerunner wrote...
They may be the ones designing them, but we're the ones staring at them for 40+ hours, and paying for it too.
If Bioware is comfortable asking us to buy a game full of hideous elves that they know many of us are going to hate, then we feel comfortable asking them to please make the said elves more pleasing to look at. (True, they don't have to listen and we don't have to buy their next game, but we want to like it so we figure it doesn't hurt to at least ask.)
I trust Bioware will do their best to deliver a good story and a good game. But no matter what, there will always be game elements that people will be divided on.

Why, because as soon as someone shows a little teensy-weensy bit of creativity and try to break the mould of what an elf can be, [people] go around and say they're ugly. [I respectfully disagree.]
The DA2 elves are excellent because they are finally Dragon Age exclusive elves. They don't get confused with any other elves because they're different!

Well, people that don't like the new elves, why don't you look in the mirror or get a partner irl?! If you're so obsessed at having a character that looks exactly like Galadriel then you obviously need to start thinking about your own personal appearance.

So STFU.
And breaking away from the norm is only an accomplishment if it ends up being better than the norm.

Me too but I think BW made it clear that they aren't going back to that design. True BW can make the elves and humans look like what they want but when you get guys looking like the guys below then you really have to question BW...![]()

Indeed. Iorveth's design was fantastic. Not just a human with pointy ears and doesn't have a nasion resembling a donkey or horse similar to DA2.Brockololly wrote...

Cool concept, ruined by deadlines. I hope the artists have time and resources to translate their concepts to game content this time.

I liked these two. Orana looks exactly like I'd imagine an Elven slave would -- kinda malnourished, needing a good meal and a nice home -- save for the clown make-up.
That girl in the second pic is just fine to me. Her skin looks like ****, but I think that's due to the saar-qamek.
Animation issue and not a problem with the actual design.
Furniture people are not representative of the actual design.
Furniture people are representative of time constraints, an engine that probably can't support a lifelike city, and maybe even resource issues.
These two were ugly as sin, that I'll grant. Well... Nyssa wouldn't have been too bad if she had a different -- and more feminine -- hairstyle suitable for her age IMO.
But you're always going to have ugly people. No one race is comprised of 100% beautiful people. There are a few examples of Elves in Denerim alone that I find atrocious.

The elves were great in the first game, they never should have chnaged them.
And Merrill wasn't meant to be adorable in Origins she was almost a completly different character

Humanoid generally just refers to creatures with a head, torso, two arms and two legs.

The creature has to have human like characteristics like opposable appendages, the ability to walk upright etc. The physical appearance of those humaniods can vary. So you can have fat, ugly elves just like you can have fat ugly humans.Zanallen wrote...

You can also have horns, tails, wings, etc. The kossith are humanoid, the darkspawn are humanoid (Well, potentially not counting the new genlocks), almost all of the Star Trek aliens are humanoid, the Lizard from Spider-Man is humanoid, golems are humanoid, several pokemon are humanoid, so on and so forth.

And Merrill wasn't meant to be adorable in Origins she was almost a completly different character
Merrill's personality in the clan is consistent in both games. She's confident when amongst her clan, telling Ilen that the clan needs to shove their fear of the old ways up their ass, Paivel that she'll leave soon enough and he shouldn't "get his knickers in a twist", and getting pissed off at Marethari upon hearing what baseless lies the Keeper spread about her prior to her Act II quest.
And Merrill displays enough savvy of how the world works -- even if her knowledge of how the world speaks is shaky -- for me to personally say that not much changed between the two games.
She has a great deal of culture shock, but she understands why she needs to go to Kirkwall. Alone, she'd eventually be killed. In Kirkwall, she can blend in to the crowd.
Merrill in DAO didn't display culture shock because there was no outside culture for her to be shocked from. Throughout DAO's DE Origin, she's within one culture: the Dalish. And I'd expect her to be confused by the culture she's now a part of, considering the only people that deal with the humans regularly are the Dalish like Ilen and Varathorn.
The only thing that's really changed is how she says she's never seen a human before, but then goes on to tell Anders she met Duncan.
Unless Duncan is an OGB or the beard makes him something non-human entirely, that was a pretty bad slip-up on the part of the devs. Negligible, but nevertheless bad.

I hate when elves are basically humans with pointy ears.
The only elves I like are the kind in folklore. The Fey creatures that lived in the woods and under hills and kidnap people.
Hate the DA 2 saw the ears and went Hehaw.Hate the Artistic donkey ears.
