After the fall they now look like this, see they still have beauty, but it isn't WOW factor anymore! They shouldn't look like freaks that are different, especially the city elves since they are cross breed with humans. They are more human than elf now.

Agreed. I mean, that's kinda the point in Origins. They weren't supposed to look so different from humans. They just look ridiculous now, especially the Dalish.
Elves have no honor, becuase there is none left for them. They must either resort to banditry, slavery, or servititude to survive. They lost, they are losing, and are almost gone from the world. Humans and Elves are no different when it comes to attaining their ends. Heck, there is no difference between a human and a city-elf. Both in fact detest the Dalish as barbarians, and there are elven followers of the Maker that have more zeal than any templar.

Some, but not all. Of this entire paragraph, these are not universal characteristics that apply to all elves.

Arlathan was swallowed into the earth via powerful magics by the Tevinter Imperium, an empire built on slavery and blood. They would not want any evidence of any past glories, that's why they burned and destroyed all traces of Arlathan they could find, rather than preserve them. As for the immortality, we don't even know if they were truly immortal or not. Even then, it was contact with humanity that made them mortal if that was the case. Since humans are found all over Thedas, they cannot isolate themselves from them.
Considering what traces keep popping up, I don't think they did a very good job. Who knows what more is out there?
There very well maybe ruins of Arlathan out there, but not enough to spark an entire renaissance.

The Dales were slaves and "half-breeds" (eventhough there are no half-elves). All elves from all over Thedas came to the Dales, only to be sundered into the Dalish and City Elves after its fall to the Chantry.
I think it goes without saying that they couldn't be "half-breeds" because all human/elf-born children and every descendent after are human, no matter how many elves are re-introduced into the bloodline afterwards, and the Dales would likely never have allowed humans into their borders. Even in the present Dragon Age, you never know which human you pass on the street has elven ancestry and to what quantity, but every elf you encounter is pretty guaranteed to have an all-elf heritage.
But they're human nevertheless.
Yes, the Dalish are the descendants of Elven nobility, but someone that lives in the trees and hunts animals like an animal, is not what a noble makes.

There's so much wrong with this argument that I barely know where to start.

I'll start with the obvious. The Dalish do not "live in the trees and hunt animals" because they want to, they have basically been forced to by circumstances beyond their control. Humans stripped them of their lands and titles twice and they'll live how they can to survive unless or until circumstances lead them to regaining what they lost.
The Dalish live by the strictures of the goddess Andruil, the Ter Vhendhal. They live in the forest, using bows and arrows, to hunt down prey. Yes, they are a people/government in exile, along with being vagabonds and poachers all things considered. They live in lands not privy to them, and are at the mercy of the owners of said land.
It's basically the same thing with the DN and HN Warden, (supposedly) Fergus Cousland and Nathaniel Howe. After loosing their lands and titles, they're all basically forced to live like animals as well (the Warden especially is hunted like an animal for over a year, and Nathaniel has to steal like one for several months) until they no longer need to do so. Do their survival methods during their exile automatically negate their nobility?
No, because they still have a valid claim to their position. The Dalish, at best, have bloodlines and titles that mean nothing to current system.
I mean, heck, even nobles with better circumstances don't always do much better. I would think that drinking, gambling, womanizing and brutalizing all willy-nilly is "not what a noble makes" either, yet plenty of human nobles that we've encountered so far have displayed such characteristics despite having infinitely better opportunities to better themselves, and they wear such poor behaviour with pride. (Apparently acting useless and common doesn't make one useless or common as long as one has the blood to make up for it.) If having noble blood is all it takes to be a noble (as it seems to be for humans), then the Dalish have that down pat.
They're noble by virtue of their ownership of land, armies, and estates. Dalish lack in those departments.
On behaviour, different countries and cultures (and time periods) have different standards for how they think their nobles should behave. Holding human standards of nobility to elven nobility and saying they fail at being nobles just because they don't behave like humans think their nobles ought to is fallacious at best. Plus, just going to say it, elven culture is closer to nature than humans. While the Dalish live admittedly closer to nature than they'd ideally like, they still live by their own standards better than humans. But hey, humans don't value it, therefore it has inherently no value at all, right? (Ethnocentricity, anyone?)
Elven nobles aren't even recognized by other elves. City elves certainly don't consider Dalish to be their lords, and the Dalish themselves seem to hardly get along.
Thedosian Elves, a not moral, decent creatures of legend. They are paupers, slaves, prostitutes, and bandits who depend on humanity for their survival by any means. Even the Dalish are lowly things that must hide and cower, hunting innocent humans just to get by and to feed their delusions of grandure.

You say this like every elf, everywhere, no matter where they're from or what they do in life, all share these characteristics without variation or exception. None of them are moral, none of them are anything besides paupers, slaves, prostitutes and bandits (even though we've seen elves that fit other descriptions), the Dalish have nothing better to do than hunt poow widdwe innocent humans because dey're just dat evul (never mind that humans do the exact same thing back to them if given half the chance) et cetera.
That maybe the case, but the Elves are almost incapable on expanding beyond their current state. City Elves are still poor, and Dalish Elves are still exiles.
Arlathan is gone. Elvhenan is dead. This is the setting of Thedas, and that is what it shall be.

And no one in Thedas has ever been able to turn their luck around or discover ancient ruins or thaigs that had long since been lost or forgotten. The afforementioned nobles that lost their wealth, lands and titles? Gone forever! The Circles mages that live under Chantry rule? Oppressed forever! The Urn of Sacred Ashes? Myth! The Anvil of the Void? Buried forever!

You get the idea.
Arlathan was swallowed, along with nearly every trace of Elvhenan. Like I said, I like to think that the city in the Eluvian is in fact Arlathan, but I"m not holding my breath.

My responses are in itailics.

No, because they still have a valid claim to their position. The Dalish, at best, have bloodlines and titles that mean nothing to current system.

What valid claim? The land doesn't even belong to them, they are just rapists, murders and thieves. The only claim they have was built on blood and lies. Bloodlines are enough to allow you to be knighted or crowned, so why are the rules different? Because the current system is corrupt and full of heretics that should be burned alive for what they did.

They're noble by virtue of their ownership of land, armies, and estates. Dalish lack in those departments.

So if Queen Elizabeth II or a Duke or Dutchess lost their estates and wealth that would make them less noble? They would no longer be noble? What a load of crap! You are just making this up so we can't play a noble elf aren't you?

"Nobility is a historical, social and often legal notion, which should not be confused with socio-economic status which is mainly statistical based on income and possessions. Being wealthy or influential does not automatically make one a noble, nor are all nobles wealthy and influential (aristocratic families have lost their fortunes in various ways, and the concept of the 'poor nobleman' is almost as old as nobility itself)."

Oh I just made you look stupid, LOL I will savour this moment of triumph! ^_^

So no they can't be automatically be named King or Lord  just because they have more land and gold. They are self proclaimed so it doesn't count.

"For if knowledge is power then a GOD AM I!"  Eh no you are not? - Thats basically what the race of humans did, proclaimed them selves Kings and Lords over the race of elves. WOW thats hearsay for you!

Elven nobles aren't even recognized by other elves. City elves certainly don't consider Dalish to be their lords, and the Dalish themselves seem to hardly get along.

Is that the best you got? Seriously? Ok I don't consider the Queen as my ruler and i'm British, does that mean I automatically question her noble blood and title as Queen? Answer is no of course not!

And i'm sure if you lived under the rule of Tyrant that said he was your king and lord and you didn't know any other life except his words and rule you would forget to notice your true king/queen and lords and ladies. You know it's kind of hard to notice your own noble lords and ladies when you have never even seen them and are scared if you say anything you would be called a blasphemer and heretic by the humans for spreading your lies in the name of the Maker and burned by the corrupt Chantry. And don't think it wouldn't happen because if the Lords can rape elves i'm sure they can burn them too.

That maybe the case, but the Elves are almost incapable on expanding beyond their current state. City Elves are still poor, and Dalish Elves are still exiles.

And the elves are caple of building another city, they just choose not to because they fear the humans will sack it in another great holly crusade in the name of their Maker. They say they will only build unless the human empire grows weak and falls, well i'm sure that will happen in DA3 because the humans are having a Templar/Mage war.

Arlathan is gone. Elvhenan is dead. This is the setting of Thedas, and that is what it shall be.

Arlathan was swallowed, along with nearly every trace of Elvhenan. Like I said, I like to think that the city in the Eluvian is in fact Arlathan, but I"m not holding my breath.

Many great cities have fallen, that doesn't mean everything is gone or lost forever? But the people of Elvhenan are alive, because if they all died they would be no Dales. The elvhen are just in exile, kind of like the Dunedain in LOTR.

"They were men who descended from the Numenoreans who survived the fall of their island kingdom which was swallowed by the sea."

Ok it is not DA related don't you dare say it! But you have to admit they seem alike, both lost their kingdoms and both in exile. So you see just because they lost their kingdom does not mean every bloodline died too. Losing power/land and extinction are completely two different things.

Tell that the Dalish elf clan in Origins...

Oh wait. You can't. They're dead.

(For the life of me I can't remember what playthrough I killed them in. It may have been my City Elf playthrough which would have made the whole thing ironic and he was a evil bastard too so it could have been but I can't remember...)

Suffice to say. I prefer City Elves over Dalish elves. In DA2? I hated all elves. That's if you even consider those abominations as elves. They should have used the new "elf" design for the DA2 darkspawn instead because that would have been a hell of a lot scarier than the putty patrol.

They look like really bad copies of Lineage 2 elves, NCSoft  elves looked sexy and attractive especially the dark elves. DA2 elves need to be put in the bin. They should start a fresh new blank page and start drawing new designs.

Two reasons I will not buy this game.

1. I can't play the elves and there are no origins.
2. The elves still look like ****

If Bioware can't fix these two simple problems then they can make their game into a cartoon like DA2 and let under aged kids play it. Because i'm not going to waste my wallet on a broken game with bad cliff hanger endings and ugly model designs.

Yeah, but I understand them wanting to do something other than LOTOR. It's overdone and limits creativity. It could have been done a lot better in DA2, though. I think they went a little overboard with the redesign. But at least they tried something different.

Skyrim, same thing. They wanted to do something different. It also didn't turn out as well as I would have liked. But I still at least had the choice of being able to play as an elf in that game.

It does belong to them. Their ancestors fought for it, bought it, or the previous owner (a King or Queen) gave it to them for them to lead and protect the estates. Corrupt or not, that's today's Thedas where those with the might can rule. The elves lost, and therefor any rights they had are forefit.

You do know what feudalism is right?

So if Queen Elizabeth II or a Duke or Dutchess lost their estates and wealth that would make them less noble? They would no longer be noble? What a load of crap! You are just making this up so we can't play a noble elf aren't you?

Legally, yes. Pragmaitcally, no. They'd still have noble blood in them that has weight in the world.

But before you say anything else, wonder this;  why do nobles have a habit on getting rid of bastards? It's because they have a claim to inheritance, but blood only works if the lineage is valid. Elizabeth has validity through her family. Seriously child, read up on Medieval society.

So no they can't be automatically be named King or Lord  just because they have more land and gold. They are self proclaimed so it doesn't count.

You didn't. You're taking this concept out of context of the setting. Many people in Thedas can and do become lords by either fighting for it, or earning it. Tyrn Logain being an example, or in fact all of Fereldan gentry who can become lords by merit of their wallets or swords as much as blood. Nor did I ever say that wealth and power makes one a noble or not, only that wealth and power is power. But, they are still nominally nobles by law. Again, research on how a feudal society works.

"For if knowledge is power then a GOD AM I!"  Eh no you are not? - Thats basically what the race of humans did, proclaimed them selves Kings and Lords over the race of elves. WOW thats hearsay for you!

It isn't. The Elves lost, the Humans won. The latter have all the power and wealth, the fromer depends on them for their survival. Elves live by human laws, even the Dalish. The very reason for their nomadic existence is because they're estentially bandits and rebels at the mercy of the local lord.

Is that the best you got? Seriously? Ok I don't consider the Queen as my ruler and i'm British, does that mean I automatically question her noble blood and title as Queen? Answer is no of course not!

Actually, it does. You still are under her law and rule by virtue of her famly and british law. Until UK decides to do away with the Queen entirely, she is your leader, even if it's a ceremonial position. City Elves on the other hand have to worry about their human lords which have real power over them, not the allegedly elven ones.

The Lords of Thedas are the true Kings and Queens. There is no elven state, or law, or government. The vast majority of the Elves follow human laws under human governments. They may hate it, but that is the reality of life in feudal society and they've accepted it. No Dalish can order another elf to jail. A human lord can.

Also, the City Elves are aware on Dalish and their claims, they just don't see them as valid or are hopeless. You can't enforce a claim without money or power.

And the elves are caple of building another city, they just choose not to because they fear the humans will sack it in another great holly crusade in the name of their Maker. They say they will only build unless the human empire grows weak and falls, well i'm sure that will happen in DA3 because the humans are having a Templar/Mage war.

They aren't. Unless if the Dalish homeland in Fereldan is canon, they cannot build anything without the approval of the local lord. Nor can they take over a human nation. Their numbers are simply too few and disorganized.

Many great cities have fallen, that doesn't mean everything is gone or lost forever? But the people of Elvhenan are alive, because if they all died they would be no Dales. The elvhen are just in exile, kind of like the Dunedain in LOTR.

.

Timbuktu, Carthage, and Tenochtitlan weren't swallowed with magic. Even then, all that remains are ruins, a lifeless town, or are the foundations of a stronger civilization.

Yes, the Dalish are in exile, but they still have no claim nevertheless, nor are their situation with the Dunedeain any similiar.

The Dunedian built Arnor and Gondor, and managed to hold them by the grace of the Eldar and Valar. The Elves lost their second homeland long after their gods abandoned them, and where scattered all across the continant.

I have said this once, and I'll say it again.

If you want to play powerful, beautiful, magical elves, go play a setting where you can find powerful, beautiful, magical elves.

They do not exist in Thedas. They've stopped existing ever since Arlathan fell. Bioware made their elves to be the underdogs; alien and weak. That is how the story is set.

You can argue about their aesthetic appeal all you want, but anything else doesn't do the story justice.

And i'll say this once and only once! Stop telling me what to think and do!

If you want to bend your knees to Bioware and accept whatever rubbish they give you thats fine by me. Just don't go telling me what's fact and what's not. I'm a consumer, I think it's my right to tell them what I want in the game when i'm giving them £40-50 for it and more. It's up to them to decide if they will act on it, thats what these forums are for. I'm sick of
you telling me "no they can't be this and that" Are you the author or something? Yeah didn't think so.....

Study research? Your the one who said quite clearly that the humans had a right to be noble due to their wealth and estates, (read your last post) you arguing that further was really pointless.

Sorry no I don't look at the Queen as my leader she has no power, maybe a thousand years ago. The government has the power and they are the leaders that decide what to do in wars and the state of the UK. You can say what you want but they are nothing to me but antique decorations.

And who said I want them all to be beautiful and perfect, your putting words in my mouth again. You seem to like to do that alot :?. If you even read stories about elves you would know they are not all beautiful and powerful; they are not Gods. They bleed and age and die, and alot of times bad things happen to them like everybody else. If you think Tolkien elves and all the rest are perfect you clearly didn't read the books hard enough.

The story is not set in stones by the way, it can change. It doesn't say they are all dead? All it said was their city got destroyed and some fled and others became slaves, your making up facts again..... Oh my city got destroyed and that must mean everybody is dead.... BORING.... Where's the fun in that! Thank God your not a writer.... I don't see the Dalish being underdogs at all they are rebels not slaves.

You can argue all you want, but it seems your just a bad dictator to me. You tell me whats right and wrong by your standards and if I say otherwise you will try very hard to prove i'am wrong. It's getting really boring now... I posted for others to read and to agree or not and think about new ideas for DA3 not for guys like you to debate that i'm wrong or incorrect.

Overdone LOTR? You know there is plenty of ways to re-invent elves. Change the oufits and looks, how they live and create a unique story about them and a family tree. Redesigning the faces to look alien is stupid. Bethesda were stupid..... Bioware are stupid.... Hellboy did a good job of doing it, do they look like freaks? No they look like elves with a humanoid face and a unique look and backstory with new outfits.

Wizards, dwarves have been done in every fantasy, do they need to be redesigned? No. Does that make them boring and overdone? Well what do you expect it's a goddam fantasy world with the same creatures based on the genre. If you can't stand seeing Gandalf wizards and elves and dark elves from LOTR and orcs and trolls why the hell are you playing them? Seriously? It's like your telling me your tired of eatting fat food yet your in KFC? Shut up and leave then.... We don't care.... If your bored of Tolkien don't watch the Hobbit... But I know you will because your a hypocrite.

You say I like LOTR and other fantasy books and games yet at the same time you say they are boring, generic, overdone etc. Is it me or are you saying I love you but **** you at the same time?

It doesn't matter you can insult LOTR and Kingdom Under Fire and all the rest of them, but thats the way the elves are in fantasy. Mods will be made and downloaded and that will be canon, not you and Bioware's sick world of redesign makeover! Yeah thanks but no thanks, I like looking classic you can keep your plastic surgery:alien:.

Also Jademoon121 stop being an ass****. They do exist in Thedas or have you been sleeping when Faerunner told you the lore? Bioware made them like the classic elves with a twisted story, so shut up please.

I will update a reply to your silly argument list that you made after I gain my strength back, because your annoying debates are killing my eyes. I want to say that the noble quote was not out of context, it is true in the DA world. You can't be a lord without being born in it or given it by a King, Pope, Angle or God himself. Loghain was not an example, he was given his title by the King fighting with him. Have you got any other people to quote that were poor and gained wealth and fought and became lords? Because it seems your just taking that out of context too....

No they like elves with a humanoid face and a unique look and backstory with new outfits.

I think elves should be ephemeral sprites in the next game, like the bottle fairies in Legend of Zelda.

I really didn't mind DAO elves they were ok not the one i love (Tolkien ones) but still interesting especially the Dalish ones.

DA2 elves on the other hand are creepy and personally i found them disgusting and horrible. I agree also that humans should be a little more uglier ala TW2. In reality BW is too humanocentric in his games.

Really stop looking for ways to tell me I can't play a Dalish noble and the elves should look different. Is that your new word now different? You used to say the word unique until I proved you wrong. Why don't you just call them bad copies? it's more realistic.

Why is everyone hating DA 2 elves? I think they were better in than they "siblings" from Origins: I always hated when alien races look like humans. There wasn't much diversity between the features of the various races in DAO. Every species was based on humans: the elves were small, pointy eared humans, the dwarves were even smaller, but wider humans and the qunari were giant humans. I'm glad that this was remedied in DA 2, every species became more unique and maybe more interesting. This is my opinion.

Umm several times the elves themselves say they are sought after as servants and assassins because they are aesthetically pleasing. So they may have all the downplayed power or magic of just humans, but they are canonically supposed to be more attractive, and they are not so...  people actually have valid complaints about these more "alien" elf remakes.

Because this is not Mass Effect! Alien races? There are no alien races in myths, take your sci-fi somewhere else and stop destroying classic fantasy. Why do we need diversity between the features of the races? Do orcs look too human to you? Ok lets give them three legs and four arms. Lets make dwarves hatch from eggs without any females dwarves, lets make the elves look like farm animals and dragons can look like snakes. It's funny how you want to change the elves when every other race like dragons look the same and they have been done a thousand more times than elves.

Elves should look like humans, just like dwarves should look like norse human warriors, just like hobbits should look like small humans. Same for orcs, wraiths and all the rest of the myth races.

And they still look the same. Tell me how are they unique? They look the same to me just like every other book, game and film. They just do it better than Bioware because they actually take something in myths and reinvent them, they don't try change the race until it's no longer regonisable. If you want something new create a new race that looks like a Panda and call it unique if you want, because **** will always look like **** to me. Pardon me....

And they don't look unique, i'm sure I told you guys to stop using that word. Read the dictionary and find the meaning for the word unique. The designs have been done before, so stop calling it unique because your starting to sound like idiots.
