Yes, people saying that they don't want "generic" Elves in Dragon Age is VERY different to you insinuating that people are effectively into "beastiality" for liking the current DA2 Elves.

And if you don't see the difference, maybe you need to step away from the keyboard for a while.

Call me whatever you want, but after actually playing DA2 I've come to the conclusion that Merrill Is really pretty and that Fenris is hot. And there are other elves -- like Orsino -- that I don't think look bad.

So I don't mind if they keep the general redesign, as long as there's some tweaking -- like not letting the size of the eyes get out f hand, not having the ears stand away from the head so much and working in making the transition from forehead to nose look good. It works on Merrill and Fenris (especially Fenris), it doesn't work so well on Marethari.

And DA has a problem with shallow cheeks in general, it's not just the elves (though admittedly it is very noticeable on Orana, for example). Look at the default human in Origins -- and there are some human NPCs that have terribly shallow cheeks as well. I'm a bit miffed that giving a character a beard automatically gives them shallow cheeks.

I think Orana's half-starved appearance is deliberate. She was a low-ranking servant of a Tevinter magister who was, by all accounts, kind of a b****. Ensuring that the elven slaves were well-fed was probably not high on Hadriana's priority list.

It might be a trick of the eye, but I don't think she looks nearly as sickly in Act 3.

And i'm not asking them to be all pretty. Just because you have a young face doesn't mean it will stay 100% pretty if you don't look after it. A lot of elves start to slowly age due to depression, grief or usually too many times in battle and they lost a eye. They even grow some facial hair eventually....



Look at this elf, at least he still has some attractive features even though he has slightly started to age and has battle scars and is missing an eye. Thats the point i'm trying to make. I just want them to have a proper face structure and not look like a anime navi goat monster.



This elf has a more square face than a round one but at least he looks normal. If I saw him I wouldn't get scared and run away, he still looks attractive for a square faced elf.



Again you see that you can still make an elf different without destroying the facial structure to look weird and strange.



And elves do age and slowly grow old if they give into grief or grow tired of the world they live in. So stop all this rubbish that elves all look like young and beautiful and powerful, because they aren't all like that.

DA elves aren't like other elves. That was the point of the retcon.

Unfortunately, you shouldn't make the changes if you can't make them right. The devs just didn't/couldn't put enough time/effort/detail/attention into pulling of the elves' new look.

I never claimed that. It's never going to be one or the other. Some people like them, some don't and some are indifferent..

Well alot of people do think they look like human goats and cows, hence why we have all those parody wallpapers about them and a forum already calling them that. wow! finally you show your true colours! I also find your comments jarring.

The only people reacting to my posts are the same people that I have seen since I joined the forum. And I knew you can't resist preaching your views against mine. Hence why we call it a debate!

No it's not a different it's still called an insult, just as what I called animals from other fantasy games as "beastiality" is an insult and offensive. If you called my work "generic" I would be offended so stop your lies. If I said the word "idiot" instead of people that say the word "retard" would that make it more right? A crime is still just a crime there is no difference, they are both still bad and wrong and if you can't tell that you step away from the keyboard.

There is a massive difference here.

The people in this thread are talking about whether or not they like specific types of Elves (they're fictional, not real), and you're replying by insinuating that some of the posters are into beastiality as a result.

They're "insulting" (and that's stretching it at best) fictional characters. You're insulting real people.

Regardless, I'm not going to be replying to you anymore in this thread, as this is the second Elf related thread I've seen you go off the rails in and I wont get into this anymore as a result.

Fully agree. There were a few that looked pretty decent (Merrill, for example) but the majority just seemed.. off. I like the design in principle, but it certainly needs refinement.

Yeah it's easy to forget other peoples insults as long as they don't offend you personally, thanks for that. But it's ok for you to always harash me because thats want your doing right now. You already told me i'm wrong so why drag it further? I insulted the design models, not the people. Bestiality crossed the line? Well I have been on a few forums that talked about the Pedo-Panda bears on TERA Online and they didn't think it was a breach against the rules. I can insult the designs as I see fit, if Bioware has a problem with me calling their designs bad, tough luck; i'm a critic and that is what I do, what did you expect?

Yes this debate about the elves has gone around and around and around. Again and again and again.

I just disagree with the logic that just because in some codex entry or some person says "humans find them attractive" turns into "they must fit my standards"

I really am indifferent. Some looked good in DA:O some looked awful. Same goes for DA2. DA:O benefitted from the shine and polish I think we all expect from BioWare. DA2 changed a lot and was rushed and that can be seen in the elves. They are all over place. Not just in the graphics (the 2d low res disingenuous memes people post that think it constitutes a point) but even to those you can clearly see got more attention from the designers.

And this turned into a ramble. I only ment the first line and it kept cooming out.

The elves in Dragon Age 2 had the same problem much of the game had, in my opinion, and that is that while the concept was good the execution was poor, probably due to time constraints. 

A unique facial structure was a great idea, as was being more slender and in the concept art it looks good. The problem came with the execution.

You can see that the elf models that actually had time and effort spent making them, Fenris and Merrill's (well, their faces at least) look good. The problem is all the rushed background elves and elf NPC's who did not have enough time spent on them and ended up looking incredibly creepy and unnatural. Sure there are a few issues with Merrill's arms and neck but they were more to with questionable animation than her appearance. Other important elf NPC's like Orsino and the keeper also look a lot better than the other elves, because their importance story-wise meant that more time was spent on them. 

I think that DA3's elves should use the same facial structure and concept that DA2's did, but that this time they should spend more time on the models to make them look right, like the better elves in DA2. Considering that they already have the concept and finsihed models there hopefully this will give them more time to spend perfecting them this time around, and with any luck that will increase their quality this time around.
