I just wish that Bioware would retcon the name of the race into something else, so that people would stop trying to make their "elves" the same as every other depiction of them.

It's ok for them to have a radically different, theology, psychology and society, but not ok for them to have a different physiology?

I understand that people are upset that their favorite Dragon Age race now look like stretchy fetuses, I know that feel, but asking them to either be changed back or changed into something even more generic (yes, standard fantasy elves are pretty generic now) is going in the wrong direction.

Don't blame Tolkein.  His elves are not bland as rocks.  But its pretty hard to get the otherworldly nature of the Noldor into art images.  Elves are spiritually different more than physically.  No one in Middle Earth ever fails to notice an elf just cuz they have a hat over their ears.   Which can certainly happen with most game elves.

I think what most people are saying about the problem with DA2 elves is that you don't have to make them ugly.  With just a little bit more effort you can make something that is not completely human and yet attractive.

Joined. We cannot allow these abominations to continue. Elves are people too and should not be subjected to mutations that the higher people are performing on them. The Elven race should be an ordinary race and not one that is distinctive from humans by extreme ugliness or beauty but one that is distinctive because their facial features are different from humans whereupon one could look and find attractive and ugly specimens just as one could with the human race.

Besides generic DA2 elves, elves in that game look great.


I think the reason others look terrible is due to game being rushed so character models for random NPC's suffered.

I still hold to my conspiracy theory that Bioware made elves in DA 2 ugly because they didn't want people complaining (as much) that the main character was restricted to being a human. If you make an old and now unavailible option look terrible then people don't miss that option as much.

Personally I really don't care at this point what they do with DA 3, it could have Barney the dinosaur in it. DA 2 was a rough experience to me on alot of levels and it's going to take more than just giving elves a facelift for me to buy it or take interest. I do question the idea of changing the art direction for everything, especially the races in what is planned to be a series. That's something you just don't do with a movie, books, advertising or games after the initial product is launched. The initial product is supposed to leave a visual and conceptual impression that you build upon, not give a complete overhaul, especially when it's a success.

Can you post pics? I honestly don't remember seeing any elves that looked...wrong like they pretty much all do in DA2.

Anything but DA2 elves is fine as long as they don't make them look like THAT again. The only acceptable looking elf in DA2 was Fenris and maybe Merril
