Cuttinng edge phoenix vanguard build?

You may not NEED lash, but the final evolution of phoenix training is just so useless. There's absolutely no reason to need two weapons on the phoenix vanguard in my opinion, since his biotics and melee can take out just about anything. For long range situations I do have a pistol and I can pretty much insta-kill soldier-level enemies with lash even at level 3, so I'm covered when hacking.

Are you sure you can detonate biotic explosions if you choose the electrical path? It wouldn't make sense for them to even have a "biotic effect" path if you could set up both biotic AND tech explosions by choosing the electrical effect.

I had the area upgrade in my first build also on smash but honestly, I find the move already has enough area if you aim it right, and I find myself spamming the move on atlases, brutes, and banshees all the time. That extra armor damage is super tempting for my current build.

You mind if I ask you how you have smash spec'd?  That was the only thing I was on the fence about when I was coming up with the idea for this build during my first build.  I did have biotic effect/damage/radius, but now I'm leaning towards biotic effect over electrical damage and armor damage over radius.

Well, taking the last upgrade for pistols and shotguns I can have a strong weapon bypassing shield gate close range when going to melee and another when it's too dangerous to go too close with almost no cooldown penalty. I wouldn't call that useless but if it's your opinion... Here my carnifex helps dealing with enemies from mid to long range with great accuracy and allows me to have both piercing mod and damage boost mod on it as I have the melee mod on my shotgun. It's simply great for versatility at almost no cooldown cost.

With charge into heavy melee you can't kill most ennemies on gold so you need to shoot something in between. That's where your shotgun comes in, as shotgun bypasses shield gate you can remove your enemies shields and thus take also some of their health bar after charging, leaving them in a perfect position for a heavy melee kill.

I don't see the point of having lash level 3 by the way, to me it's an all or nothing skill. What makes it awesome is the rank 6 shield piercing evo, with it level 3 you'll only be able to pull in targets that are already as good as dead anyway, it's not even usable on armored targets to trigger any tech burst or BE so... Better take rank 6 evo of class tree IMO, whether it's the weight bonus or the weapon bonus.

For smash electrical evolution I didn't say you could set up biotic explosions I said you could TRIGGER biotic explosions. Basically with this evolution Smash can set up tech bursts and trigger both tech burst and BEs as it is still considered a biotic power.

As for the area evolution I use it for many reasons, the first being that it pairs up incredibly well with the biotic charge radius evolution. In my case I can often set up and trigger 2 tech bursts at the same time which is devastating on a group of enemies. If you don't take this evolution you can only prime 1 target for tech bursts or BE if you chose biotic evolution at rank 4. Also having a larger radius gives better range in general, allows me to hit more easily enemies that happen to be on my side rather than right in front of me when I smash. It also allows to hit two targets that are quite far apart at the same time if you can line up your smash correctly. And personally I don't have any problems killing armored targets fast enough with this setup. Which evolution is better I don't know but the area evolution sure has lots of advantages.

Fair enough. If needing to eat shields is a concern though, I can always just use my Eagle with the melee stunner equipped. It's not worth it to charge over to a lone cannibal, but it is worth it to lash him so he can't chuck grenades right into the middle of your group. Also, lash rips guardian shields away, unless you carry the reegar or you can mailslot perfectly every single time, it's a fast way to get rid of them or open them up for a teammate's shot or power.
