I just read a review in the local free rag and I did not like the review. The guy missed the point.

http://www.inlander....gon_age_origins

I already posted my response to him

Look, I don't mind people being critical or pointing out actual flaws, but when people write garbage like that review.

The graphics look like "old, old, old Might and Magic" is exaggeration beyond hyperbolic into absurd.

The "dialog and sound don't  make sense together" means what exactly?

The "choices are mostly in the form of dialog"?  Really?  What other kind of choices did he expect?  Oh, not picking class, race, skills - not picking which direction to go, whether to sneak past or attack . . .  honestly, what choices were MISSING that the reviewer wanted?

Constant references to how small the dialog option text is - what kind of system was he playing on, a 360 connected to a 13" non-HD television?

And finally - rant almost over - I am sick and tired of people seeing dwarves and elves, staple of most fantasy, or evil needing to be stopped, staple of most heroic tales, and yawning as if it's overdone.  Is it the typical trappings of most fantasy to the point of being cliche?  Sure.  But have you ever seen it repeated that Call of Duty keeps "going back to the tired military war story of armies and terrorists and tanks and machine guns, we've seen it all before" or that GTA is "so tired with its focus on the mafia and guns and crime - how often have we seen this?"
Really, this is a sign that the person saying it isn't a fan of the subject matter, nothing more.

Gah, what a half-assed review. :pinched:

So he's great at acting as... himself?  That sounds like quite the achievement.

*Shrugs.*  To each their own.

If you've ever watched/played the things I mentioned, AND liked them, you would know what I'm talking about. Tenacious D, anybody? I mean really, if you find him annoying/unfunny, there's simply nothing to discuss.

Well that's just the thing, isn't it?  I have watched his stuff... which is why I don't like him.  His voice is irritating and his music (on Tenacious D) was not funny.  I find the stuff by Flight of the Conchords a million times better than Tenacious D.  Something about him rubs me the wrong way, I suppose.  I'll give him a pass on Kung Fu Panda though.  He did a good job on that.  Otherwise, I'm not a fan of his other work.

Again, to each their own.  I don't find him the least bit appealing, but I can understand if others enjoy him.  It's a matter of personal taste after all. :)

I guess I just don't understand why people are surprised/put-off when Jack Black wins for being "over-the-top metal dude", when they want Claudia Black to win for being "dark-haired mysterious chick". They're both playing to their types, and doing it well. It's all up to the fans at that point.

No, people are upset that Jack Black didn't win in the "retard who tries to be funny and fails" category.

God of War 3 won over Mass Effect 2 because GoW3 has been in development longer and they keep pushing it back over and over again. How many years ago was it supposed to come out? Of course its going to be more anticipated than a game that is actually on time.

Not to be a downer, but how exactly does an award validate our fun?

I'd have to say this is the best Bioware game since BG:2, but that's not saying much. (The NWNs seriously lacked in my book) You guys got more potential then this, I know you can do better... I've played BG:2, that's why I know you can do better.

But congrats on the award. Hopefully you'll be able to make more money and thus make even better games in the future, just don't rush them out the door too quick like you did with DA:O.

.... DA:O was anything but rushed. It was in development since 2004.

just wanted to say dragon age is the first bioware game i've played- and i'm mainly a pc gamer, but if they keep making games of this quality i'l be sure to play more guaranteed i haven't been able to put this game down since i start only thing i was disappointed with , was that jowan was not a playable character.  I woudl also like to see alot more dlc i don't mind the price to a point as long as the content is good and a reasonable lenght.

DA is the only game that I've played of all the winners. :?

And I don't think I've missed anything.

And the only game I anticipate right now is Mass Effect 2.

That show was actually painful to watch. I was very glad DA won 2 awards, but the show is so out of touch with reality sometimes it was scary. Before Jake Gyllenhaal announced the Game of the Year award, he went on and on how each game "had you by the balls all ... year ... long" and "because of this game you didn't go to class so you got held back a year." Of the 5 games nominated, the OLDEST one (Batman) came out Aug 25th - not even 4 months ago. 3 of them weren't even a month old. So Game of the Year? I don't think so. Biggest advertisement budget? Yes, please.

To touch on Jack Black for a brief moment, I find him to be alright. Most of the stuff he does manages to make me laugh, but he also has his really annoying moments. My favorite role of his though is in The Jackal >.> (Brutal Legend was well done from what parts I've played).

I was surprised he (Jack Black) won. I didn't play Brutal Legend so I can't say from experience whether I liked his work in there; so I kept my mouth shut.

The thing is though I had a funny feeling he probably got a large amount of "kid" votes just for the very fact he is probably more known to them through other works mentioned.

Eddie Riggs is METAL.

Seriously, the overall quality of the voice work in this game is top notch and the actors are very talented, but for a heavily thematic game like Brutal Legend there was no way of stopping that cast.

I wouldn't consider myself a kid (middle aged and balding for the record), but out of all the games I played this year (and it's a lot mind you), his voice acting really sold that game. Sold it big time.

Excellent news. Glad to hear that DA:O and Bioware are getting the the recognition they very rightly deserve. Congrats!
