With any luck, the Warden is just hulled up somewhere (maybe by Flemeth?) to be discovered and rescued, maybe by the next protagonist?

With any luck, Hawke is gone for good and all this hype about being "the most important person in the history of Thedas" can come to a close.

I went through the portal with Morrigan so my Warden could raise his god/demon child and I'd like to either see the child as the protagonist or at least the Warden being shown as living a happy family life. I know Morrigan will probably use some magic to slow the taint and maybe that could be a future plot point as the Warden comes back to Thedas to stop a Blight in the future.
As for Hawke, I hope they remake Dragon Age 2 sometime so that it made sense. They probably won't so maybe just show him living with your Li on a mountain and being called upon to stop the ensuing mage/templar conflict. Hawke could act as a mentor to the new protagionist in DA3

The ending of Witch Hunt has no effect on DA2, it looks like Bioware does not cosider that canonical. The 3 endings supplied by Bioware for DAO for DA2 basically fixes the
fate of the warden as Bioware wants it. And going off with Morrigan is
not one of those fates. The ending of Awakening implies there will be no more Blights as the Architect has found a way to prevent them from ever happening. Awakening is not only canonical but there is a specific ending that is canonical as Nathaniel and Anders appear in DA2 which can only happen if Awakening is played in a specific way.

The Morrigan story line seems to been unrelated to the story arc implied by DA2. Many things in DAO seem to be there only to establish the baseline for the world. Flemeth is clearly a standard NPC like Elminster and Drizzt are standard NPCs in the Forgotten Realms. Your character can interact with them but they can never be part of your party. Morrigan may well be one of those standard NPCs. After DAO you can interact with her but she can never again be part of your party. And whether she has the god child or not is in the hands of Bioware, not you.

My first thought when Cassandra said "Gone just like the Warden." I assumed she was talking about Anders. Then later I realized she meant MY Warden. Which to me does not make a lick of sense. I don't see why my Warden would just up and vanish. On top of that needing the Warden for this sort of conflict does not make any sense.

My Warden married Alistair and became king and queen of Fereldan. Why she would just up and leave is a total head scratcher.

I'm still in the boat thinking it would be better to play Hawke for DA3. But hey, I know its not going to happen, but I still keep saying it seems a more logical choice then bringing in someone new.

Maybe there was something in the book Morrigan left that made the Warden go "Oh crap, this is something dangerous. Let me go investigate" And then they disappear to go search for that lurking threat.
As to why Hawke disappeared, maybe he/she was just sick of kirkwall and decided to take a vacation and just did not tell anyone haha.
