The top guy on ps3 is like 8 or 9k, at least that's what he was last week, he does tend to go up a thousand or more sometimes in a week. I've played with the second place guy on ps3, it was a silver match but he seemed to be a pretty good guy. I've often wondered about how people get that high up in the numbers, and i'm sure some do play A TON and some buy alot of packs while promoting, so that raises their number up. Why anyone would pay all that money to just get to top of leader boards is beyond me, but hey it's their cash.

Why does everyone assume that people pay real money and be top on the boards? I for one, have been bed ridden for the past two months or so and on disability due to major nerve pain/damage and I play ALOT. Pretty much all I can do. When you have all your weapons completed and all you get are character cards, leveling up is easy. Hell I've leveled classes I never even play. Doesn't come close to doing it the right way, but some of my N7 ranking has come for free that's for sure.

I guess you are talking about Sadrach (Xbox360).

Most matches I have played last few weeks have been with him. He is totally legit. No shared account, no leeching, no FBWGG. Always using mic, discussing about builds, using consumables,...

Most matches are U/U (always Gold), and lately we have done some speedruns. He is not from my continent, so I cannot talk about the hours we don't share or before I met him, but there is nothing that makes me think otherwise (I have been playing with him since N7 7800 or so).

A key thing someone pointed out: if you promote, save your credits to use them after promoting.

PS: I didn't use to understand when he talks about "the hate just because I'm in top of the leaderboards", but seeing some answers...

Normally I'd suspect a whole lot of time and disposable income is responsible for his ranking, but I have a friend who's a full time college student with a job and still found time to crank out between 50 - 100 main story profiles spread across two consoles and his PC for the entire trilogy.

Once they've found their holy grail of gaming some people will find all the necessary free time in the world to make it work.

Thing is you can't even say he's a good player, al he does is just constantly promote!
Its possible its 2 people, when hes asleep person number 2 carries on with his shift.
One word, LOSER. Its not impressive, just very very sad.

Meh, I'm around 6200 or so right now on live. Have a full time job and haven't spent any actual money on the game. Its just something to do in my spare time instead of other less important things, like sleep.

And N7 means absolute squat, just shows how much time you've invested into the game. Played with people that can do just as much work... and usually better... with their 200 N7 rating as someone at the top of the boards. Its all on how you play your character, bottom line.

PD: que va, es que yo no soy fan del promoting, de hecho no me gusta, si fuese fan de eso como muchos de los de aquí mi N7 fuera como +7000, aunque si yo tuviese lot of blackouts probablemente no estaría ni en los 1000.

Sounds like either Glacier or Hydra.  I've found it is really easy to force enemies to spawn  clumped together in some of the worst places (for them at least) on both.

I don't know about you, but I like seeing Killstreak 3 on wave 3 .

this topic makes me wonder, can we see everyone in the leaderboards? Or do I only see other xbox players in my leaderboard?

And if so, is there a discrepancy between average scores on xbox, ps3, and pc?

I've played with the top guy on Xbox. What he does is play Gold only. He'll promote then take his level 1 into Gold while other players user their 18, 19, 20 characters to support him.

It's a lot of game time, but not necessarily a shared account or exploit. You get 40 N7 points for leveling up and promoting a character (20+20). So that's like 250 characters to hit 10,000. The game's been out for about 100 days, so that's promoting 2.5 characters a day.

Somebody who knows the numbers better than me can figure out how many Gold games it takes to promote from level 1 to 20. Maybe 6 or 7? And what kind of bonus XP are you getting from character cards?

So maybe 3-4 hours a day since launch. Questionable use of one's time, but not out of the realm of possibility.

Be funny if somebody became the top player and bragged about how great he was. How rich, handsome, and talented he was and how the rest of us were just wasting our time even trying to reach his level of greatness. That Bioware would be lucky to hire him as a beta tester but the salary he'd want would be too great for them to pay. And of course go on to brag that he'll move to South Korea one day to go up against the pros and take many of their women into his bed.

I have a N76000+ friend that does well in all the games we play. Good team player, uses consumables, etc.

I've also run into a N78000+ that only has 3 medi-gels. Playing with him, I wiped on more Gold games than I have since I started playing

EDIT: Also, this N78000 played with my friend and I who regularly duo Gold.  Yet somehow, we were wiping.  You can't explain that.
