Majora's Mask is my fourth favorite Zelda game behind Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, and Ocarina of Time. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a remake of it as long as it isn't phoned in like the OoT "remake" was.

Still, dat Dark World...

But.... why not all three options? D= I want something new but I would also love to see a 3DS remake of Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past. I'D BUY THEM ALL.

Can any of them be considered true sequels? I think Majora's Mask was intended to be a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, but they all worked as stan alone games without really referencing the other games in it's lore. Either way, a remake of Majora's Mask would definitely be the best way to go. Dem masks!

I tend to tune out when people talk about the Zelda continuity.

Don't worry, Nintendo released the Hyrule Historia last December which includes the timeline =P pretty simple now:

The first two Zelda games are the only two I ever considered related. I treat the rest as standalone stories. Way too confusing otherwise. O.o Not that I own a 3DS, but I'd also vote Majora's Mask despite ALttP being my favorite Zelda game. MM didn't get a fair shake. It did some neat stuff with time travel and deserves to be played by a larger audience. ALttP is too similar to Ocarina of Time.

Nintendo released the continuity (filled with predictable inconsistencies and a nonsensical third split timeline that came completely out of the left field) not too long ago and Twilight Princess, for example, is more of a sequel to MM than anything else because it takes place further up the same timeline. Granted nothing is directly referenced and a few locations are off especially with the Master Sword and Temple of Time being mysteriously relocated again.

The only game that isn't a direct sequel that makes direct references to previous installments would be Spirit Tracks to my knoledge. It establishes that Link and Tetra from Windwaker did find the new continent they were searching for that would be the next Hyrule, created a kingdom there, and the current Zelda is the grandaughter of Tetra. Also you see some obvious decendants of other characters from WW and PH.

Metroid has had a known timeline for ages. In fact Nintendo outright states where each installment exists in the timeline before it releases.

I actually hope they start pushing the timeline past Metroid Fusion. Samus is an outlaw now, I believe.
