My group is =

Leon (Level 9 Cleric, I think) The Bhaalspawn.
Minsc
Yoshimo
Aerie
Jaheira
Keldorn

So, I have three Divine casters in my party, total, including three tanks (Minsc, Leon, Keldorn and maybe, just maybe Jaheira), and one arcane caster.

The problem I have is that I like to play the game with a huge reputation rating. (20 as soon as possible) yet I want Edwin, or at least Jan Jansen. I want a romance with Aerie yet I'm not sure if she's a good enough Arcane caster.

Is Edwin worth keeping, or will he leave once my reputation rises above 18? Also, how long can Leon be a good tank for the party? He's not a figher, in fact, he is a cleric, and thus incapable of attacking many times per round. However, he has a great armor class score. (-7 to his armor class), and a 19 strength, allowing him to hit the enemy very, very hard.

I'm curious, however, what would happen if he entered the Illithid layer with his 11 intelligence. Any suggestions for him to survive his capture by the Illithid slavers?

If that is the party you want, then the Happy Patch might be the answer.

With it you have a number of options available with regard to what happens when NPCs are unhappy with your reputation.

One option is that they will be unhappy and complain but not leave.

If you drop them off however, they might not rejoin. Worth remembering!

Edwin's OK, but both Minsc & Keldorn will try to kill him, and the 18 reputation is also an issue, so either go for Jan, or install the happy patch from the tweakpack. Aerie and Jan together give you fair arcane coverage, your 3 divine casters are nice too, and you have tanks aplenty. Jaheira is a great tank, so is your PC. Perhaps keep Minsc back to deal damage with longbows, up to you. Aerie is pretty rubbish at turn undead, so leave that to your PC.

11 INT is not a problem if the party has lots of potions of genius - they STACK - and last for a good while too. So 3 potions of genius would put his INT to 23 - just fine for the illithids. Also, be sure to use the chaotic commands spell (5th level divine spell) to protect your party from the illithid psionics.

Cloudkill or death spell is often useful for the clumped groups of Illithids and umber hulks in there.

I've always wondered, what attribute determines turn undead?

It's basically the cleric level, which is why Aerie stinks at it for so long, since her cleric levels are split with her mage levels. Also alignment of the cleric matters - evil can try to get the undead on your side and good will destroy undead (if the cleric is high enough level)

There's a table here showing the effect by level and enemy type.
www.planetbaldursgate.com/bg/character/classes/tables/turnundead.shtml

edit, & you can turn under sanctuary. Planning to do this in current multiplayer no-reload.

That table's always annoyed me because it stops at level 14, when what I really want to know is when you can reliably dispel liches. Also what's so special about ghasts & zombies, although even without them anything I extrapolate in excel seems to be garbage. My best guess is that it works like dispel, so anything 5 levels below you will automatically get chunked. My liches are all probably modded, but they appear to be either level 25 or 30, except for the level 40 one from Tactics. So by level 30, you should chunk the small ones, and by level 35 all of them. The only lich Aerie will ever be able to chunk is that one in Sendai's lair in ToB, unless you run a duo just with her and the PC.

Most Lich that you encounter in game have names and can’t be ‘Turn’ed however they all get tossed away from a Cleric that has ‘Repulse Undead’ IMO best used to push the nasty away from your group or trap him in a corner... I like to put up ‘RU’ for the Shade Lord fight because it tosses him away and gives my group the time to finish killing the alter before tackling him.
A typical late game buff would be ‘Blade Barrier’, ‘Repulse Undead’ then ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘Turn’... I stand next to the alter so the shade mob adds get destroyed (good/ neutral) or converted (evil) to my side as they appear and I can even send them after the Lord to encourage him into wasting spells.

p.s. -7 armour only looks impressive until you notice that Haer'Dalis has -24... IMO Cleric should only tank in situations involving undead or when cloaked eg: escaping the drow city with ‘Blade Barrier’ & ‘Sanctuary’ but it’s your game so enjoy it your way.

That table is actually for turn undead in 2nd ed, not how it works in BG2. There is no % chance in game, turning always works if you're a higher level than the undead, and it never works if you're a lower level than the undead; once you're 7 levels or higher than the target you get the maximum possible effect (control or instadeath depending on alignment).

I disagree. I soloed a cleric/mage with the level cap removed, ended at 40/35, and I chunked lots of liches.
