There's all this talk about the old god baby (OGB), and how it will impact future Dragon Age games, but hasn't really been much talk about Andraste's sacred ashes. In Origins, as most will know, the Warden and co. find the sacred ashes. Before you can leave the Ruined Temple, you find Brother Genitivi still waiting for you (if you didn't send him away when you met him). You will have two end results (without going too much into spoilers), him finding out that they exist, or the Warden managing to trick him into believing they weren't there.

What kind of impact do you think the sacred ashes will have in future games?

Not much, because variables

Although it would be hilarious to send a new PC after it in a grand quest, and find out that it's basically an urn full of "blood and ash grits," or that there was a theme park built on the mountain.

In real life groups have used the possession of relics to claim that they have the favor of higher powers.
So with the Templars having split from the chantry, they might try to claim the ashes saying that it is proof that the Maker is on there side.
The Tevinter chantry might do the same thing.

Interesting post...

If the Sacred Ashes defiled...then the Chantry have lost their purpose and significance, their religion is solely based on Andraste, if the temple is destroyed, then where is the base for their belief? People will question them, and they have no ground for their claims. The Chantry will fall...

If the temple not defiled, then it make the Chantry more stronger, they might be the more cruel than before...especially toward mages...they will become an iron fist religious organization.

About as much impact as whether or not Lelianna survived the encounter.

The Chantry doesn't even know of the ashes and yet they still have purpose and exist. This argument is invalid and do not raise any objectiooons against it. Meanwhile if the ashes are destroyed, The Chantry still exists in Dragon Age 2 which is physical proof that your argument is wrong.

IRL? Not much. The devs will probably exclude any important result of it in future games because of import difficulties.  Posted Image

In the game? Questers will still have to get through the Gauntlet, won't they? Anyone who isn't worthy won't ever see the ashes, supposedly.

It would be especially fun if you could have a Darkspawn as a party member (not romanceable, of course!) but one that remembers being elven and is fighting the taint (maybe he got some fed some of Andraste's ashes before the full conversion) trying to find a way to be normal again. And he is on a quest to find the Urn because he thinks it will turn him back into an Elf if he gets one more dose.

I think that eating the Ashes would only make you mad.
Oghren mentions the presence of a lot of lyrium in the temple, suggesting that the Ashes' healing power may be coming from it.
So, yes, if it's lyrium - or even more so red lyrium (highly improbable since you only see it in the primeval thaig) - it would only make you barking mad.

Good. Now I'm imagining the warning "DO NOT INGEST THESE, NOT SUITABLE FOR AGES 3-18" written all over the Urn.
