Frankly speaking, I love the pawn system in Dragon's Dogma. It's one of the more unique features I've seen in an RPG to date. It's a treat to create your own virtual sidekick and have him be used by other people. And if he's helpful enough, people in turn will give you gifts. He can also gain experience on quests you haven't encountered yet.
So do you think this system can be used in other games? And not strictly RPGS.
Could the pawn system in Dragon's Dogma be used in other games?

The pawn system is a nice little thing, but it seems like it was inspired by Demon's Souls co-op. I'm not sure it was, though.
Me, I'd rather have a party member that has a mind of his/her own. I don't enjoy the pawn system as much as I enjoyed having Morte, Morrigan, Cass, or Myron as a party member. They had something different to say, and there was a sense of mystery as you started hearing their life's story.
These pawns are just blank slates that only have accomplishing a task on their mind. They don't challenge the character at all, which is something I liked with characters like Jaheira and Vhailor.
