Ignoring the crappy ending, how do you truthfully rate ME3?

If the ending were actually in any way decent, and after all the single-player DLC was released, I think the game would probably rate an 8/10 or so. But then, I'm typically a sucker for BioWare games, so they almost always get high ratings.
But with the ending as it is, I can't even play it. It doesn't get any rating from me.

Points off for:
1) Face import bug. How in hell did this get missed in testing?
2) Journal system
3) Eavesdropping quests that led to scanning rather than proper sub levels.
4) plot holes and inconsistent writing
5) Priority Earth (it should have been an epic 10 hour finale. What we got was rushed and finally led to an appalling ending)
6) over reliance on MP to give SP a chance at the "best" ending. (MP is fun I like it but hate the fact that it counts far too much towards the SP)
7) Our ME2 squadies being given a very limited role
8 ) our decisions from all 3 games meaning virtually nothing at the end apart from perhaps adding to a number in the war assets.
9) lack of replay value. ME1 and ME2 I've played many many many times over, ME3 I just can't be bothered and unfortunately it has had a knock on to replaying the previous 2
10) Day 1 dlc
ME3 has a lot of good things and is mostly enjoyable but it has some mighty bad things that really do not make it worthy of a high score.

I dont approve of auto dialogue or copy paste fetch quests. Only good missions were Rannoch and Tuchanka (although rannoch should have been longer. Hell the turret moment that lasts 10 seconds was pretty pointless)

For reference, I would give ME1 9/10 and ME2 8/10.

So 5 out of 5 stars for all three games.

The missing rate point to have a perfect score (without consideration of the ending) is the consequence of the face import bug and auto-dialogue.

+ best combat mechanics in the trilogy
+ some parts of the story line like Tuchanka and Rannoch
+ some very emotional scenes with your squadmates
+ outstanding VA, if you play the original version
- face import issue - it still remains, even though developers claim it is fixed
- Crucible= Reaper turn of button=lame
- some of the side quests are not very interesting, I am speeking of those where you have to beat the multiplayer maps in SP, not of the scanning
- autodialogue
- no neutral option in dialogues (small exceptions)
- choices from the last games don't matter a lot (with a few exceptions - Wreav instead of Wrex with or without Bakala makes quite some difference, so does the fact wether Tali or Legion live) like rachni queen lives regardless of how you decided, it does not really matter wether you saved the council or not, being a spectre does not seem to mean a lot even though they made a lot of fuss about that in the first game. This should probably prevent that those players, which are new to the franchise, miss out on something, but it could have been dealt with in a better way, like asking about your earlier decisions beforehand like in ME2 with the comic
- last mission contains too much combat
- I know, the game audience is mostly male, but Bioware overdid a bit with the boobs
- playing multiplayer is required to get the "best" ending in contrast to what was promised
- poor localization (watched some scenes in my mothertongue on youtube - ghastly!)
All in all, it's a good game, better than most of the stuff that you can buy, but it's nowhere near perfect. Though storywise superior to the second part, non-combat-gameplaywise it's far worse, so I'll give it a 7.3 of 10.
Trying to compare it to its predecessors:
ME1
+ best story
+ most immersive part of the series
+ I really liked the start at the citadel, where the whole universe was set up
+ meaningful choices (at least you get the impression)
- very poor combat
- inverntory is a pain
- not much variations in the ending
- the sidequests, well, by now I have somehow grown to like the mako, still a bit more variety would not have harmed the game
so all in all I'll give it an 8.7
ME2
+/- still immersive story line, which does, however, not make a lot of sense with regard to its sequel
+/- better combat than in one, though still clumsy compared to ME3 (what's the point of giving me a sniper rifle if I can only take out 10% of the enemies on the field before running out of ammo. Pfft!)
+ the interaction with the team - everybody has his/her own background and comes with his quest (I count them as main quest)
+ good final mission, which considers your decisions made throughout the game, except it does not make a lot of sense (human reaper, probably the only way Reapers procreate, which however contrasts what Sovereign said in the first game), still more satisfying than the one of ME3
- backgroundwise I found the side quests in ME1 more interesting, though I liked the way some of them were connected here like the one around the assembly line
- 80% of the time you only slaughter mercs
---- planet scanning (okay, you can modify the coalesced.ini, but still...)
- no inventory, granted, the system was hard to administer in ME1, but rather than tweaking it they abolished it
I'll give it a 6.5.
This is quite a strict evaluation. These are probably still better marks than most games out there would receive by me. However I don't see the point of throwing out really good marks because the ME series is way better than what is also available. The games have their shortcomings, I'd still recommend the first two parts to anyone, after the release of EC probably also the third one.

It was amazing but could have been so much more, 8/10 if i dont include the final mission with its rushed straigth forward gameplay, lack of renegade/paragon choice and lots of 2d sprites.
The rest of the game was epic especially rannoch and tuchunka but the rest of the characters you'd played with throughout all 3 games seem a little "distant" and have "their own problems", more like... lack of time to fit any real action in with these characters.
Also although i like liara as my LI i do feel they didnt really expand so much onm LI with other characters and i can agree with liara being forced on you.

It's a 7.5/10 for me. Even without the weaksauce ending, it's the weakest entry in the trilogy for me, and i'll quickly list off my reasons:
1. Bad journal system
2. Auto Dialogue
3. Side quests reduced to boring eavesdropping scanning quests
4. Romance scenes for most characters are pitiful
5. Final mission is rushed and anticlimatic
6. Intro is rushed and sloppy
7. No exploration
8. No boss fight
9. A lot of choices didn't amount to anything
10. Too much emphasis on MP
11. Vent kid
12. Day 1 DLC
This is why I got a bit of a problem when people say the first 99% of the game is perfect.
^^^This although I wouldn't give it a 7.5 though. I'd give it a plain old 7.0
All of this, pretty much. 7/10 for me.
Really a shame how this entry, which was supposed to be the most epic, was the weakest of the series.

1. Bad journal system- Didn't bother me too much, it's easy to work around.
2. Auto Dialogue- A little, I didn't get as mad as some people on the boards, mostly because it was still good diaolague IMO.
3. Side quests reduced to boring eavesdropping scanning quests- This bothered me. The ME2 charachter quests were good though.
4. Romance scenes for most characters are pitiful- IDK, only romanced Tali, haven't played the game with any other charachters so doesn't factor for me.
5. Final mission is rushed and anticlimatic- Yes, but this is part of the end sequence, so I omit this from consideration.
6. Intro is rushed and sloppy- Yeah.
7. No exploration
8. No boss fight- I liked the TIM fight, but also part of the end.
9. A lot of choices didn't amount to anything-Yeah, hopefully ammended in EC
10. Too much emphasis on MP- I like MP
11. Vent kid- I hate him.
12. Day 1 DLC- I can give them benifit of the doubt for not finishing Javik before they went gold.

As much as it pains me, the fact that BioWare tried to make the final game of the Shepard saga, the "Best place to start the franchise" hurt the game.
The extended cut may take Mass Effect 3 to 9ish territory if they can somehow fix the star brat, master reaper, god-thing, albatross.

5/10 with the ending, and that's being generous. 0 replay value, truned me off the series and the company.

Without the MP, I'd go with 6.5. It felt shallow, in overall.
This is a rating in regard of the previous two games.
Without ever playing ME1 or ME2, I'd go with a solid 8.

Don't get me wrong, ME3 had a lot of great moments (seriously, I cried at the parts where I needed to cry because the scenes were very emotional) but.... the game as a whole had a lot of problems; most of it with the gameplay and dialogue.

The combat is great, but too much emphasis on multiplayer and not nearly enough on the story of the game itself. I'm not playing Call of Duty or Halo 4 or Gears of War.... I'm playing a space opera that started out like a symphony and was replaced with country music during the last movement. Nothing wrong with country music but it's not what I was looking forward to when I bought the tickets. I can live with less than perfect game mechanics, but if I'm not playing the game for what I thought made it so fantastic, then I would propbably be looking forward to those other games instead of this one.

Obviously ME3 is the most "straight to the point one of the series" which does make it my least favorite RPG of the three... But the action... Mind blowing!!! The combat renders the other 2 previous games to the stone age. No kidding!
I give the over all series a 9/10... If not for the ending, 11/10!!!
