I mostly play Vanguard right now, the Asari being my favorite, but i use all the races from time to time. Playing Vanguard means I have to host though, and certain classes like the Human Adept also perform better without latency.

When not hosting, I mostly play Adept, most often on the Drell (new Scorpion buff helps vs. Cerberus and Geth). Soldier and Sentinel I play, but less frequently. Tech Armor is nice, but I don't see the point of playing a Human Sentinel when I can be an Asari Adept - I'd just prefer to play with aliens unique to the ME universe over humans .  I don't play Engineer very often except for the Male Quarian.  I don't like bringing an Adept if one or more people have Overload, conversely I will not bring Overload if there is a biotic in party.

I've stopped playing Infiltrator as 99% of the gold matches I'm in already have one, and barring latency, I generally don't need the cloak now after playing so much on Gold.  I do not want to see Tactical Cloak nerfed, as I think Infiltrator is a decent gateway class to gold, even if I don't use it much anymore.  Full biotic or engineer teams are just as easy.

All of them. Generally play infiltrators but I'm comfortable enough to play any class. I usually steer away from adepts and sentinels at silver and above if I can as I'm still learning how to be effective.

So, a quick couple of question out to everyone:

Do you feel there is enough of a spread of different classes to satisfy a variety of play styles?

Do you feel that any one particular strategy or play style outshines the others?

We try to keep in mind this is about team play with a well-rounded team, of course.

Cheers!

Hi Derek. Thanks for asking!

To answer your questions:

Q. Do you feel there is enough of a spread of different classes to satisfy a variety of play styles?
I do feel that there are a good amount of classes and playstyles. I have characters to pick from when I'm feeling agressive and "in your face die!" (vorcha! lol) and characters to pick from when I'm feeling like some biotic kaboom, and characters to pick when I'm feeling sneaky snipey.

Things I'd like to see:

- I feel that a Medic class would be really great! It has come up in coversation a few times while playing with friends and the consensus was that we'd like to play as a Medic- and especially have one on the team!

- I like female characters. As a female, one of the things that attracted me to Mass Effect to begin with was that I could play a kickass female character! It's rare! It's wonderful!  So...I think that's why you keep getting calls for female turians, female drell, female batarians, etc, etc. If you had offered the new Phoenix characters with a female option as well, I would have just fallen over from the awesomeness.

- A mix up on the hordes. Like waves of husk hordes when fighting the Reapers. Maybe going against Cerberus and you're fighting Mechs. You could have a whole game based on Mechs, or Mech waves. Geth?..um not sure what they need. Not really liking them much at the moment.

Q. Do you feel that any one particular strategy or play style outshines the others?
I think there are characters that favor particular strategies and playstyles over others, and certain boards and hordes that are easier to kill with certain set-ups, but no one character or one playstyle comes to mind that wins in every situation always beating out all others.

I have to admit I stay away from certain characters:

- characters that rely on grenades because the ammo boxes don't replenish reliably, and I feel that even more to be true with the shortened time between rounds. So I feel those characters get gimped and stay away.

- characters that can't maneuver well, so I don't really play the tanky characters like turians and krogans and batarians. It doesn't bother me on Krogans- they are tanky. It bothers me on Batarians and Turians, and especially since Marauders are so dodgy!!
I have the Hurricane and I've heard that the weapon is beastly on a Turian so I'd like to try it, but the no-dodge thing makes me sad. Ideally, if you made a female Turian that could dodge -since we know all about their flexability- that would be fantastic!

-it might be just me but it seems harder to set up any kind of tech explosion then biotics. I know how they work- I have a cheat sheet-  but they don't seem to go off reliably and I know certain powers like Sabotage don't register that you've killed with it, etc. So tech powers seem to suffer overall as compared to biotics.

The reason I play this game is because it is a team game and team orientated!

I am still going through the learning curve, so to speak learning to walk with various classes before I can run with them. So my list is limited simply due to the fact that I have not gotten around to try out the other yet.

I can handle well the following classes (meaning I can play gold and contribute):
Asari Adept (not justicar)
Human Sentinel
Salarian and Geth Infiltrators

Had fun and can play OK on Silver level with the following classes:
Drell Adept
Turian, Vorcha and Batarian Soldiers
Human, Salarian, Geth and Quarian-male Engineers
Batarian and Vorcha Sentinels
All infiltrators
Human and Phoenix Vanguards

I am in the process of learning to appreciate the diversity more and more.

Thanks for the Great Game, BioWare!

I play everything. I'll stick with one class for a few days, then move on to something else. More fun to keep switching up.

However, if I do a Gold random/random, I roll with an AA 99% of the time. (And then curse when I get Geth...)

1. There is enough variety to suit most play styles! But I would always welcome other alternatives.

2. ME3 Multiplayer is all about team work. My favorite games are on gold when the group rips through enemi lines with Biotic explosions and Tech bursts. Playing with mics also enhances the experience with greater surrounding awareness and group strategy.

Outshines

The Infiltrators... They always seem to die a lot less than any other class and they do there own thing... If you are playing with 2 or 3 or these in your group, guess who is the decoy? You will have A LOT of attention!

The Geth Infiltrator is a one man army and doesn't need to rely on cooperation. He sees through walls, uses a mini rocket launcher (Krysea sniper riffle), cloaks in and out of danger and can solo objectives. I guess, he outshines the others.

Outshined

The famous Drell Vangard needs more love... Nobody wants him on their team... Mainly on gold... (kick!)
The female Quarians are now single... if anyone is interested?
The Turians... If Marauder Shields can roll... and man, I want to have HIS version of the Pheaston!!!

Machine guns (anything that is full auto) don't do enough damage. They are not as accurate as other weapons and cause the user to put himself under prolonged enemy fire... There needs to be more insentive to use them.

Revival, medigel insta-kills by Banshees, Phantoms and the likes... not cool when not able to at least have a chance to roll or run out of danger... and the Ops Survival pack doesn't work half of the time...

As for topic
ASARI JUSTICAR!!!

Asari adept
Asari vanguard
Turian Sentinel
Batarian Soldier (a.k.a. Captain Falcon... "FALCON PUNCH!!!")
Geth Infiltrator... (YES! I'm also guilty!!!)
Geth Ingeneer

That prety much raps it up! Cheers!

I predominantly play a Geth Engineer, Turian Sentinel, and every Infiltrator but Human. I somewhat less often play a Drell Adept, Asari Adept, Phoenix Vanguard, Turian Soldier and Batarian Soldier.

I have various priorities for choosing which class I play for a given match. I queue for U/U/G, and if the group I get into has the game set to U/U/G, I play my Geth Engineer almost every time. It's the class I am most comfortable playing when I don't know my team mates or what enemy we will be facing. Sometimes I will play a Geth Infiltrator instead. If the game is FBW/G/G, as often happens, I will usually just pull out my Male Quarian infiltrator with Krysae for easymode credits (I used to do Geth infiltrator with Valiant before the Rebellion Pack launched). If the game is Unknown/Unknown/Gold and I'm playing with at least 2 friends or a team where we have successfully cleared several U/U/G's in a row, I'll play other classes depending on what combos we want, usually a Biotic of some flavor or another (Drell Adept, Asari Adept, sometimes Turian Sentinel for versatility, sometimes Phoenix Vanguard). If we are playing anything other than Gold, I play any class that isn't level 20.

So in reality, I play pretty much all the classes in one form or another, and it just depends on who my teammates are and what the game settings are.

I find myself playing as Engineer and Infiltrator most with Vanguard in 3rd. The rest I try from time to time.

I play all of the classes. I love their uniqueness. Playing as one class over several matches gets boring, but if you switch it up, it stays fresh. Well, until you're through with all classes, which you shouldn't manage to do in one session :P

For the longest time I was mainly playing sentinel. Lately I've been running Engineers to better compliment the squad I'm usually hooked up with. Occasionally I'll play the two new ones (Vorcha Soldier/Phoenix Adept) for the novelty of it. So I guess infiltrators are my least-played.

There is absolutely an excellent variety of playstyles, more so than any other shooter I've ever played.

There are certainly some specific characters and builds that work better than others but none that I feel completely outclasses all others. Often I find it's more a matter of the map not being ideal for some styles while being perfect for others.

and in response to the original question, I am comfortable with every class. My least favorite being vanguard as I find biotic charge tends to encourage me to overextend myself and often fails me when I most need it.

I play most of the classes with fair regularity, though Soldier and Vanguard get less play time than the others. The temptation with a vanguard is to spearhead an assault, which doesn't play so well in a pug team environment (which I play almost exclusively). The Vanguard buy doesn't help either. The soldiers are still a bit lackluster (excluding the Vorcha and Batarian). They seem to be based around using weapons effectively, but don't seem to actually be that great at them.

As for playstyles, I wouldn't mind seeing more support / utility playstyles. The medic's been mentioned a few times, which could be cool to see. The Gethgineer and Male Quarians certainly play well to that tune though. Wouldn't mind seeing more female characters either; I think the DLC additions have been exclusively male!

I play all the classes and races I have:

I'm pretty good with Engineers, Centinel, Soldiers and Ex-Cerberus.
Good with Adept and Infiltrators.
I suck playing as Vanguard.

Turian Sentinel
Human Adept
Batarian/Turian Soldier
Geth/Salarian Infiltrator
Salarian Engineer

I actually went playing through all the classes i unlocked, so far i'm only missing the Vorcha ones, and those are the ones i keep gettin back the most, the Turian Sentinel being my fav.

An infiltrator with any slow-RoF high power firearm pretty much wipes out the purpose of any other character choice that isn't a biotic/tech spamming caster (and even then, per unit, a sniper will do more/the same in the shorter amount of time, all while hiding behind invisibility). Practically any class that is not a caster or an infiltrator is completely outmoded.

A Soldier is obsolete in that their bonus resistance and shields are not high enough to make a significant difference and they still cannot deal out more damage than infiltrators.

Female Quarian and Human Engineers are pretty underpowered compared to the others, since they have pretty useless deployable units and powers that lack overall, while the alternative engineer races have a vast majority of more effective powers and bonuses.

Vanguards have an incredibly difficult learning curve, and the end result is still pretty hard to use on harder difficulties, since getting close to enemies is practically a death sentence (and their primary power is to do exactly that).

I can clearly say that the infiltrator class(es) sit(s) on the podium of most obviously outshining everyone else. The amount of power they have breaks down teamwork and the whole malarky of "we're a unit, our job is to work together" into "anything and everything that walks down this hallway is my kill, and that's every enemy that'll spawn this wave. Even if your try to take my kills, I will still beat you all to it". Looking at it logically, they work best for most (if not all) objectives, since they can sneak into the objective area and get it done (in escort missions, they can get to the objective easily, while other classes would draw attention to the object before it is even picked up), they also work the best alone (where they can decimate single units or entire groups within seconds (where other classes would take minutes) and as a group (where 4 competent infiltrators can waltz through Gold difficulty regardless of map or enemy because there's nothing that can stand up to four invisible guys with insta-kill weapons. In other words, they fill the three main spots, Objectives, self-sufficiency and group capability, perfectly.

Builds I play on gold
Asari Adept - glass cannon, (too many people underestimate the power of simply using Throw)
Asari Justicar - defense bubble/area reave spam

Human Soldier - Claymore + adrenaline rush
Turian Soldier - Revenant + proxy mines (current favorite, not the strongest ... just damn satisfying)
Batarian Soldier - GPS + ballistic blades ("How do YOU like being stunlocked?!")

Salarian Engineer - "Don't shoot me, shoot 'him'!", tech spam
Geth Engineer - heal turret + tech spam

Human Sentinel - not as Glassy as an Asari cannon

Salarian Infiltrator - all purpose sniper, usually Valiant III, but will break out the Krysae X once or twice
Geth Infiltrator - Claymore, 'nuff said
Quarian Female Infiltrator - "Did that trooper just have a heart attack?"
Quarian Male Infiltrator - Claymore + arc grenades

Human Vanguard - Novaguard
Phoenix Vanguard - I will SMASH you! (from behind this cover or wall so you don't kill me while I get my whips ready"

So that's the 14 builds I play.

Offensively yes CQC, long range, mid range, fast closers, Berserkers, tanks, glass cannons. Its all there.

I think we're lacking a bit in the active support area though. Bio sphere only really shines when you camp a position and oftentimes not large enough to cover the entire party depending on what cover they are in. Geth engineer's turret was a good move too letting it recharge shields, but it has the same situation as bio sphere on positioning and is a fire and forget kinda deal. Tactical scan is another great support ability letting teamates join in on the fun and rallying a group. Its also something active comparitively. These are our three options for support I'd love to see more or a combination of some of it.

This, we are lacking in term of support, the geth engineer, the justicar and the quarian male are realy good in support and arent bad in terms of dps, spell like cryoblast are great to, but some spells who should be good support suck hard, like submition net.

For the op, on gold
-The justicar, i like playing her tanky, 80 % damage reduction and spam reave.
-Turian soldier with a phaeston or batarian.
-engineer, human for a good combo, quarian female for spam cryoblast, geth for the shield regen and quarian male for spam mass tac scan, i realy like this one, some wave i just do only this, spam spam spam for my team ;p ( and a grenade + inci for dps a little).
-sentinel turian, a very good versatil guy; batarian since the shockwave change.

no infil or vanguard, hate this guys.
