I play all classes except the Vanguard, because I usually don't host.

For Adepts: I usually play either the Asari Justicar or the Phoenix.
Soldiers: Batarian, Vorcha, and Human.
Engineers: Geth, Human, and Quarian.
Sentinal: Pretty much only the Vorcha, sometimes the Batarian.
Infiltrators: Typically all of them except the Quarian.
If I do play Vanguard, it's usually the Human or the Krogan.

I would say

25% engineer (every one of them)
20% soldier (every one of them)
20% adept (justicar and drell mostly)
15% sentinel (not so much the human)
10% vanguard (drell, krogan, phoenix)
10% infiltrator (mostly the salarian and the quarians)

So, a quick couple of question out to everyone:

Do you feel there is enough of a spread of different classes to satisfy a variety of play styles?

Do you feel that any one particular strategy or play style outshines the others?

We try to keep in mind this is about team play with a well-rounded team, of course.

Cheers!

I enjoy a lot the different classes and try to play with as many as posible but i would like it if you could have more respec cards in oreder to try different styles with the same character.

Infiltrators tend to appear more in gold matches but i don't think it outsines others since there are still a loy of adepts and sometimes soldiers. Certainly due to glitches there are few vanguards and thougth engineers are apreciated there are few people who play as such. The new characters help greatly to add new styles, and are very usefull.

Thanks for your concern and for listening.

It's just my opinion

Hehe... I see what you might have done there.

OT: I vary my classes almost every match. I do, however, have preferences for races for each class. Lately I'd play only Batarian or Turian when playing Soldier, because, well, the Krogan isn't quite what they're supposed to be *cough* *cough* But I do switch often, keeps things interesting.

I play the Asari Justicar the most. I love the class and the character. I play silver and gold.

I do like playing different ways though so I play other classes such as(in no particular order): geth engineer, salarian infiltrator/engineer, human female solider/adept/engineer/infiltrator, asari adept/vanguard, drell vangurad, krogan sentinel, and the batarian sentinel.

I've tried all the characters and races.

Adepts (35%): mainly Justicar (my fav. character btw), and Human Adept from time to time. Drell if playing with a friend with Vanguard.

Soldiers (15%): Batarian, then Turian. Krogan very few times, only on Silver.

Engineers (7%): MQuarian and Salarian basically. Human and FQuarian rarely. Oddly, I don't play Geth.

Sentinels (20%): Turian mostly, and Batarian and human way less than I would like (it's been weeks now...) On Silver, Krogan would be my "main", followed by Vorcha.

Infiltrators (20%): FQuarian and Geth are my main Inf. I only use Salarian when I feel like sniping and there is no Inf. on the team. MQuarian is a choice too. NEVER human.

Vanguards (3%): Basically, never off host. Only Human if I play with friends using Adepts, or silver games. Krogan is the exception on Gold, altough I don't use him much because I cannot rely on Charge (my rol with this character is tank is some key situations... and "no-Charge" can kill you :S).

1- I would say "yes, but...". But I feel, over all after Vorcha, that Krogan does not play like "lore" says they should. And vanguards do not seem to have much "soldier" stuff in them. (Ex-Cerberus is, with respect, a joke knowing where the classes come from). I would include most Sentinels in this critic, altough very far away from vanguards (turian and batarian being a perfect example of what I expect of this class... human are too biotic, and krogan and vorcha.... well, they have grenades :?).

2- As a GoW Horde player, I don't think so. Obviously, if I play with friends with a biotic team, we would "outshine" most public games with random, but most strategies requiere communication, and that's something you should not "penalize".

About FBWGG... As many people, I think is annoying when you look for a U/U/G and keep getting them... but I think it's not that bad. I know some people who decided to start playing Gold because they knew there was this "cheap" way, but in the end, I just think is the first map where a good strategy was found and reached "everybody". Most maps have similar tactics (enemies only come from 2 places, whole team focus fire), but in this kind of coop games, what can you expect? It is just common sense!

Greetings!

I play infiltrators mostly (level 2 black widow and valiant...would be silly not to) but I also like to play soldiers and vanguards (very rarely, though) to use shotguns. They'd be a waste if I got guns and didn't use them :D It's also fun to play as engineers, adepts and sentinels when other players are. Make art with explosions :D

my favourite classes are:
adept: asari justicar -- soldier: vorcha -- Infiltrator: quarian male -- sentinel: human -- vanguard: umm, I don't have one, I just play as the aliens. :P

I can play all on silver, and most of them reasonably well on gold, but I DON'T play the following, and I'll state reasons why:

both geth - because of hunter mode.
salarian infiltrator - just bores me silly
human vanguard - again, I find the repetitive offensive nature a bit boring after a while.
human soldier - adrenaline rush is almost as annyoing as hunter mode
krogan/vorcha soldiers - sentinels is way more fun.
human sentinel - I find it incredibly dull. I'd rather play an AA.
turian sentinel - for some reason I just don't get on with this guy

I'll happily play anything else, but I prefer to play the six characters in my signature - in other words my "B Team" to Shepard's A's: drell and phoenix adept, human and quarian female infiltrator, human engineer and asari vanguard.

Other odd classes I play occasionally and find fun are the krogan and vorcha sentinels (the only two sentinels I like), the phoenix vanguard, the human adept, and the other three quarians.

I mainly play Soldier, Adept, Infiltrator and Vanguard. Not a fan of Engineers or Sentinels (aside from the Brotarian and Vorcha) too much.

Since my other post was just mainly about classes...

Engineers: Geth, or Salarian if I decide to try to farm...though it's just not a good option anymore.

Soldier: Vorcha for sure!

Sentinel: Vorcha, and I just played today as a Batrian, and I gotta say I was having a blast!

Infiltrator: I've spent time with all of them except the humans, such lovely variety!

Adept: I've mainly stuck with the Asari adept. She's very versatile. Though the Drell is very fun too!

In the odd chance that I talk myself into giving vanguards another go, I usually pick the krogan since it has a bit more health, though I really suck at vanguard, not going to lie. I feel like my only real options are to ignore charge and play them as a regular adept, or just avoid them all together.

I play them all, but there are of course a few that are my faves. Like always play a Batarian soldier atleast one game a night. I just got the vorcha soldier and think he may replace the male quarian inf as my second fave. But I do play them all but I tend not to like using turrets on my engineers.

That's actually a really good idea in regard to the Ex-Cerb Engineers. Hell, the gameplay Team can just recycle the same turret from the enemy faction. Project Phoenix Phantom is another possibility, make it an Infiltrator/Adept hybrid. It'd be interesting to see a half-biotic Infiltrator in-game.

id like the turret too. i dont see it happening unless it's like grenade ammo or replenishes once a round. id rather have something new....i dont want them to overdue the whole phoenix lash thing...instead of phoenix, i would rather have orc and ogre for the soldier and sentinel. kitsune for infiltrators and engineers since it could use alot of tricks like invisibility and maybe another type engineer trick....volus and elcor will never come. an elcor would have to gallop and the volus would wobble

I play:
The drell and asari adepts
The vorcha soldier
No sentinels
The salarian, geth and male quarian engineers
The geth, female quarian and male quarian infiltrators
The drell and krogan vanguards (ultimate glass cannon and ultimate tank)

As you can see, the only class I don't play is sentinels. I just haven't been able to find any builds I enjoy. My favourite class is, and always has been, engineer.

Do you feel there is enough of a spread of different classes to satisfy a variety of play styles?

I personlly like the current setup of classes and weapons. There is plenty of variety between playstyles of each class, and within each class there can be different play styles based on weapon load out as well.  What I would love to see, and may be to big of an change to make happen, is something I've actually seen someone on the forums propose.  I can't for the life of me find the thread in which it was posted in, but it was basically a theroetical revamp of the vanguard class (used as an example, proposed changes to all classes). The way he broke it down was to have each class have 2 seperate play styles. In the example, play style 1 for the human vanguard was essentially "super melee". Increased movement speed and much increased melee power for offensive damage. Play style 2 was more of traditional tank role. Being able to charge in and nova, but the damage out put wasn't very high. It was more about staggering the enemy and keeping them occupied as the team took them down.

Obviously with roles such as this, the point system would need to be reworked as well (or discarded completely) such as to maybe have no score available until the game is ending. That way there isn't anyone using that as a contributing factor during matches. The game is designed around team work, remember, so points totals shouldn't matter. Its clearly obvious when someone isn't contributing.

Sorry that ran off on a longer tanget than anticpated, just wanted to put that out there! Image IPB

My favourite classes are the Drell adept, human sentinel and Turian sentinel - I mostly play with them for the BEs and the tankiness of my Turian (Tech Armor + Overload spam + Saber = yes). I enjoy using my (female) Quarian engineer but never feel like I'm pulling my weight in the team with her, although that might be my inability to play her properly. I use infiltrators, soldiers and Geth the least (I love Geth, but Hunter Mode gives me a headache, so I play them sparingly).

From my limited, mostly-Bronze experience, I think there's a good selection of classes for play styles. Certainly I've never felt like I was limited when choosing a class/race combo, and some of the newer classes have encouraged me to try different-to-me ways of playing, e.g. meleeing all of the things with a Vorcha (so much fun!).

Not sure where to post so im putting in the poll page and this page as well.

I play a the infiltrator with ether a geth for a melee build or a salarian for my ranged build just depends on how i want to play him at the time.

Depending if I have another biotic user I will play from ether my drell or asari's since its good to have someone to set the explosions up and another to make them go boom.

I love my soldiers, I just wish the full auto weapons would be decent on gold just they are not since you have to be out of cover so much to get the full effect from them on gold match's which leads you to dieing alot more then needed. Right now AR's are mostly a joke on gold. The saber performs well because it allows you to do all your damage like a pistol or a sniper so its not really a AR but a heavy pistol in rifle form. The reverent and harrier are sadily the best overall AR's for full auto weapons. The falcon and striker are ok not really a normal AR more grenade launchers.

Four different classes with 5 different characters I field regularly, all with each their own playstyle

Phoenix Adept- Ninja style. A relativly new addition. I don't normally play biotics but there something about his style I like. I tend to try and sneak up on people before battering them around with overwhelming force. Otherwise I drag them out of cover from my hidden position and gun them down with an Assault Rifle. I dance with Bosses a lot since once the protection is down, their armor cannot protect them from my Smash. A little CQB action after lashes certainly is icing on the cake.

Human Solder- Grenadier. Day one selection. FIRE IN THE HOLE! I absolutly still love this particular race/class. There's just something predatory in that helmet light of his that calls out to me. We go out on the prowl and god help whoever gets caught in our crosshairs. Loud explosions, gunning down those rendered helpless by concussive thumps. Slaughtering 5, 6, even 7 enemies at once with grenades, oh the grenades! Trick bouncing those little spheres of death straight into the face of the enemy watching their surprised expression before he and all his nearby buddies eat it. Human Soldier is the Predator. The enemy is the Prey.

Quarian Infiltrator- Sniper. This is something I have desired since playing ME. Tali may not have been very good with a Sniper Rifle but the image was just so cute I had to have one. The last thing running through the minds of the enemy was "What the hell just hit me?" With a ghostly disembodied giggle ringing from the far side of the field. Steathily weaving her way through enemies just to get to whatever needs done. Having mexican stand offs with similar cloaking units. (Come on Hunter. I know you wanna shoot first so I can find you.) And just causing general havoc with the enemy's equipment malfuctioning. Sabotage indeed. All of this wrapped up in a innocent looking Quarian package that easy on the eyes. Headshot. Dead. Center.

Human Engineer- Bezerker Shotgunner. A late but curious build when I wanted to try to make a CQB type class after having three long distance characters. She may not be Krogan but she's got the quad and the scars to be confused for one. I have no idea how she even survives half the situations I get her into but watching her shotgun blast, eletrocute, light on fire, and Falcon Punch her way through almost every situation has been a blast. Since I need to get close to make her viable there's kind of a thrill knowning I'm far more at risk then those heavier characters but walking into a situation like that and coming out the other side is well worth the risk. She's quite the Spitfire. Pun intended.

Geth Engineer- Defender. Actually came before the Human Female. The second Resurgence Character I unlocked. He proved his worth  at locking down "safe zones" my squadmates regularly crowded. Able to retaliate before the enemy could even see him thanks to Hunter Mode, attempted flanking manuvers suddenly found themselved in a hastily but well prepared ambush that probably came as quite a shock to them. We'll never know however because their attempts usually don't get past the turrets. That set them on fire. Have I mentioned how much he likes to set things on fire? He's quite sadistic even by Geth Standards.

Oh most definetly. Not everything works for everyone. I don't even play half the builds here because they don't fit my playstyle and I'd probably get some serious ridicule about how my builds "aren't Gold Viable" despite having clawed my way through a gold match with each character. I could just as easily rearrage different styles of play for each one of the five listed above. My adept I could spec as a longbow CC'er for trash mobs and leave the heavy enemies to others more suited. I could spec my Sniper for Covert Sabotage Operations by turning enemies into suicide bomber with sticky grenades or cause even more mayhem by turing machines into ticking timebombs. I could spec my Geth Defender into the popular Geth Healer. I could turn my Solider from a Grenadier into a Machine Gun Nest. The list goes on!

Not particularly. Any "dominate" stratagy displayed in game always has some kind of weakness that the enemy exploits at least twice per match. You can't prepare for everything. Somebody is going to get lucky on the other side eventually. If they don't then it's because the team was working together with overlapping fire lanes, communicated problems, was well prepared, and covererd each others weaknesses to provide a strong united front. Those who disagree will because they'd much prefer to compete then to cooperate. If they can't compete because of "Over Powered" class/stratagy/power/etc. then they're not really cooperating are they? ;)

I have only one number I care about. And that's the number of matches failed before a victory with the same team. And that victory renders that number moot.

I do enjoy the spread of different classes, there are a lot of options. On you're second question, i don't so much care if one strategy outshines others, but if a class just clearly underperforms every other class.

Almost every class has multiple ways to build them that can deal with every enemy type in one way or another, but when a class is clearly deficient against three or more enemy types in such a way as to feel those enemies are a brutal challenge compared to other classes, then it gets annoying if for whatever reason the design of the class is one that you like, but you feel like no matter how you build it you could deal with more units more reliably with almost any other in the same class.

I'm speaking from experience with the human adept class before the singularity and shockwave buffs and any DLC characters. I loved that class, and it is still one of my favorites, but there was no way to justify taking it over drell or asari adepts other than for style purposes. Since then that class has been balanced out and i am happy with it.

If i had to pick any classes that i felt were currently underpowered, I would say Quarian female engineer (the turret is unreliable and low DPS and the cryo explosion is much harder to do than it should be). The other that i need to test out post-smash buff is cerberus adept, the vanguard is fine as is but the adept's inability to detonate armor definitely bugged me before, maybe the longer range smash will offset that now with the high armor damage.

The classes i most often play are:
Human and ex-cerb adept
Turian, batarian and vorcha soldier
Human, Geth and QM engineer
Human, krogan and batarian sentinel
Human, krogan, ex-cerb vanguard

14 classes. I never play infiltrator

My go-to gold characters in uncertain-looking lobbies:
-AA, AJ, SE, SI, GI, GE, HS

Ones I like and am still learning and tweaking:
-PV, PA, QME, DA, Vorcha

...a bunch of characters I'll play and find useful

..and then my ignore list:
Vanguards (other than PV) due to the stupid lag-glitching
Quarian Female Engineer - just why?
Batarian Sentinel - I don't like Submission Net
Krogan Sentinel - Used to use it to test weapons, but not anymore

I would say I'm a very power heavy player, so that's pretty much every single class except Krogan S/A/VG and Human Soldier. One of my favorites is the SI with a Mantis and crazy power spamming.
Second is the Drellguard no nades ninja.
One exception to all this is the QFE...stupid useless sentry turret.
