I've been away for a while and I know the game is touchy about newer hardware, but I'm not finding any mention of this error. I just installed the EADM version of DAO and DAA on a new system. The game is patched to 1.05 and the OS is fully patched with SP 1 and all subsequent updates. The game goes through the initial hardware check fine but instead of launching the game, I get spash screen with an error saying, "Error: Please use your main Windows environment to run this game."
I am on an admin account. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, i5-3570 @ 3.4GHz, 8 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX670 (Zotac). Nothing is overclocked.
I initially thought it might be the non-standard resolution at which I was running, but switching to several other standard lower resolutions, I had no luck getting the game to launch. Any ideas?

What other programs might you be running? Any sort of sandboxing or video capture apps?
Also, you mention EADM. Is EA Origin up to date? How about your Nvida drivers?

The only other thing running is Microsoft's Security Essentials antivirus and Lucidlogic Virtu (set to not do anything for DA). Origin is a brand new install straight from EA's site and fully up to date. Nvidia drivers are the latest (301.42). The entire system is brand new. The only other programs installed at this point are Microsoft Office, SWTOR and Mumble; none of which were running at the time.

Well, the game is giving you an error message about system environment, and you have a prgram installed that crreates a virtual environment to allow for hybridized graphics processor functionaliy. Seem's the obvious place to start your troubleshooting... although I don't know how experience folks here have with thiis.

Turned off Virtu entirely. No luck. Thanks for trying, though.

Hmmm... are you launching the game via Origin or the desktop icon? If the former, try setting Origin to *not* load at start-up and reboot your machine. Then try launching the game from the desktop icon or the Windows Start menu, keeping Origin dormant-- it is not required to run this game. I don't know what (if any) mechanisms are in place in EA Origin to prevent sandboxing, but maybe you're triggering some sort of "false positive"?
Also, are you trying to play the game w/ the same Windows account with which you installed both Origin and the game?
You may also want to try posting on EA's Origin forum at http://forum.ea.com/...s/show/214.page or consult EA's tech support directly at help.ea.com.

I've tried launching the game from within Origin, from the start menu icon and from the program file folder itself. No dice. I've re-installed and tried fresh download for the re-install of both. And I am launching it from the account I installed it to, though I get the same error from the other user account as well.
The only software difference between this box and my freshly re-installed old computer on which it works perfectly is the video driver and the presence of the Virtu software even though I currently have it disabled (I literally used the same disks to install everything, and yes, I have two licenses for everything). I'll try completely uninstalling tomorrow. Actually, there is an Intel firmware updater service on the problem system as well, now that I think of it. How *that* could interfere is beyond me, however.
I'll try the EA forums, though I've always had better luck here. If I figure it out, I'll post back.

And, since I forgot as it is late and I am tired, I always set Origin to not launch at start-up. Whether or not Origin is running doesn't seem to make a difference.

Simply "turning off" utilities does not always remove all their effects. Uninstalling that utility and re-starting Windows might help. I have an Intel updater and it causes no problems for me, so my bet is still on the Virtu.

Uninstalling Virtu had no impact. I'm still getting the same error, and since I'm not playing it much these days and it's working fine on the other computer, I'm not going to keep mucking with it. Thanks for all the help, folks.
