Other than the Salarian, Engineers are unplayable

Of course you're not. Engineer is a solid class.
Human engineer is an undisputed tech master, two crowd control skill (overload and bot), able to deal decent damage to armor/shield/health with overload and incinerate.
Salarian got decoy for CC with energy drain to deal with shield.
Geth engineer is the only medic in MP. Hunter mode is still good after balance change.
Quarian will be loved next week

If Engineers could reliably set off tech explosions like Biotic classes can with biotic combos, they'd be much stronger.
Right now, they're not "unplayable" but they arent as strong as the Biotic combo classes, or the Infiltrators. The scoreboards also never value stripping protections or distracting enemies as much as they should, so your value in combat isnt as clearly obvious.
For what its worth, the class is a lot better once you've maxed most weapons, giving you firepower to backup your tech abilities. With low level weapons, that either weigh a ton, or dont deal high amounts of damage, you're stucking casting less, taking weight passives, or simply shooting spitballs.
The most lacking Engineer is the Female Quarian, especially due to the bugged incinerate rank 6 evo. Like I said though, if tech explosions are changed for easier/more reliable use, the Engineer class as a whole will change dramatically.

Okay, I'm starting to agree with the Geth Eng in addition to the Salarian. The rest of them aren't better in any particular area than any other class. Stasis alone is better crowd control than any ability or abilties that engineers have.

Oh, hunter mode is still good for making your powers cool down faster, giving you a bit of a heads up on enemies location, and of course making you move faster is always a plus.

Please improve this class! It is much needed!
There are some engeneers that very much need some love, and rumor has it that the QfemaleE is in for an overhaul. That said, i find my GE, specced for shield stripping and restoring is quite playable. Although he is no where near specced as offencively as he could be, i do just fine with him in terms of damage, and people seem to like it very much to have a turret on the team that restores shields all the time.

Anyway, to your comment about the Gengineer. I love me some HM with AP on my weapon. Be warned though that some people not quite up on HOW AP works will threaten to report you for hacking. Jus'sayin.

I've said it before on the previous "buff QFE" thread, and I'll say it again because it needs repeating:
You need to stop looking at Incinerate as a stand alone skill. Incinerate synergizes perfectly with Arc Grenades, making the QME the only class that can reliably set up his own Tech Bursts/Fire Explosions. QMI can do more damage per grenade, but without Tech Bursts, he's still not as good at crowd control compared to the QME.
And if you compared them to their own class, QME is quite possibly the best offensive Engineer save a Flamethrower turret GE, while QMI plays like a gimped GI and lacks the survivability of SI.
