It makes absolutely no sence for an apostate to wear a robes, give them shorts or something mages should be able to wear enchanted clothes .robes are beyond old there needs to be a change I'm not saying no more robes just saying more variety .then what we get bring in the shorts in pants the enchanted clothing.

The robes in DA are not really robes in the traditional Wizard sense anyway.

[Assuming the mage/templar war is the major plot in DA3]

I'd have it so that the type of clothes a mage wears represents their position in the war. If they're part of the mage rebellion they'd wear more casual clothes because they're on the run and trying to blend in with society. If they're pro-Circle they'd stick to wearing robes to show their pride in their service to the Circle and their identity as a mage.

Or something like that.

You wants enchanted shorts? Here you go
If your mage wants to run around like this, fine by me I'll stick to the robes.

Why would anybody want shorts in a medieval fantasy setting?

Though I do agree that more variety is needed, for mages in particular. One of the things I didn't like about DAII was that I always had to wear armour. Sure I could wear my pajamas in the mansion, and I could wear some around Kirkwall if I wanted but they looked silly. It's a trivial complaint, but I just liked the immersion level in Origins where I could put a dress on my female noble at her betrothed's coronation if I wanted.

They should have enchanted clothes for mages.

I just want to see less drab styles. I really liked the look of the "Witch robes" in DA:O which worked very well for my bloodmage.

And I really didn't like any of the mage robes in DAII except for the Champion Armor and the Warden set you obtain from Legacy (both sets were pretty awesome for all classes, btw.)

OH.  And a lot of the added DLC armor was cool.  Once they came out I found myself using those more than anything I could buy or find in Kirkwall.  Perhaps because they were unique pieces.

Templar is the easiest job ever, what with all mages, and nobody else, wearing robes with a staff.

Triss has magic pants. I'd post a link but it would breach the rules of the board.

There should be far more variety in clothing for all classes. No restrictions. If I want my mage to wear leather armor and carry dual short swords then he should be able to do so without penalty. And those swords should be able to shoot projectiles just like the staff does because there is no reason for only staffs to be able to do that.

Exactly. It's so ridiculous. How did the creators overlook something so obviously stupid?

It's actually more of a renaissance fantasy setting in many respects.  Anyway, I agree no shorts.  I don't need to look at people's hairy legs.

And, anyway, something like 50% of the mage "robes" in DA2 HAD pants.  The iconic high-level Robes of the Champion were pants.  I IIRC only ONE of the three main sets included a skirt, and the DLC sets had . . . pants.

YOU CAN PANTS IF YOU WANT TO.

Why is Hawke the only mage in Kirkwall who might have the sense to not wear a long skirted robe, staff, and "I'm a mage!" sign?

You mean apart from Anders and Merrill and Emile de Launcet and Feynriel etc.?

The Circle makes their mages wear bathrobes, apparently.

If you were a Templar, you really think you'd see Anders, Merrill, and Mage Hawke walking around and think "Nah, probably not mages."?

Oh actually there are three robe-style robes in DA2.  These are the ones that drop from dead bad guys and can be found in chests, too.  Plus there are the Chantry robes.

There are pant-style robes: the Notorious Pirate robes, the robes Hawke wears when fleeing from Lothering, the Arms of the Champion, some "battle robes" that can be bought at the Gallows in I think the 3rd act, and another pair of pants robes that I've never been able to find in the game but I know they exist.

Yes, please. I'm so sick of fantasy games following the cliche mages need to run around in dresses and dunce caps. Seriously.

I want more iconic looks like the Champion set for mages. Robes are fine but we need armor variation too. I want actual armor on my mage like the Champion armor. This often the biggest reason why I have a hard time picking mages in fantasy games. I never like their apparel...

And the hats for mages in both DA:O/DA2 are awful...=(

Something like this would be awesome:

That armor is best of both worlds. It follows some cliches about mages but also leaves them fully armored. Not overboard armored to the point they're rocking massive armor and a staff...

I thought some of the mage stuff was a serious upgrade from DA:O where we only had circle robes, Chasind robes, and Tevinter robes - some of the early mage stuff looked exactly like rogue armor, but they still had more obviously mage stuff for the people that wanted it. Some of the women's designs were downright elegant with the cut-out shoulders and stuff.
More variety is always nice, but I saw a definite improvement from DA:O to DAII. Posted Image

I don't tend to dress my mages like mages anyway, unless it's a particularly nice looking item. My male Mage Hawke automatically changes into this green sleeveless rogue style outfit as soon as he hits Kirkwall, which looks pretty cool.

STOP WITH THE DAMN DRESSES FOR THE MAGES

Now, seriously, I just want more variation for equipments that do not resemble dresses :/
