OKay Im just wondering...

Ive seen a lot of posts on ere slagging off Fable and Fable 2.

Comments about how awful they are. About how Fable 1 is better than Fable 2.

And I cant help but wonder did I play a different set of games to everyone else? Or do I live an alternate universe?

I loved both games. The Fable universe is meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, and a bit comedic. So the sort of clicheness about its story lines are on purpose.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Fable 2 more than I enjoyed Fable 1.
The side quests got a bit boring/repetitive/tedious. And the always horribly ugly NPCs in BOTH games. The lack of diversity in how they look, talk, act. All annoying yes.
But overrall I loved both games.

I dont get the Fable/Fable 2 hate on these forums.

Personally I think Fallout 3 is MUCH  more deserving of such hate and criticism.

Part of the problem round these parts, is that Molyneux billed them as the RPGs to end all RPGs, when in fact they are fairly basic action games, with some character customisation. Fable may well be a good game if you like that style, but I think a lot of BioWare fans resent the fact that it was touted as the best RPG of all time, by Molyneux and fans when it isn't even an RPG.

Bethseda's draw similar bitterness on the BioBoards, but there are probably more fans for those games here so they get better defended. There is also a stronger argument for those being considered RPGs.

I dunno about you, guv, but I kinda expected a more serious RPG than what I got. I did like a lot of the game, but the main plot didn't make any sense at all and gave me no real choices. It was a good action-adventure game, but hardly an RPG by any measure.

Fable 2 never went to the PC, so I don't know.

I didn't get very far in Fable one, as I didn't like the combat and really, really didn't like th emethod of communications involved. Let's see, I can fart to communicate, but I have to level up some more so I can learn to apologize? Seriously?

I just wasn't interested, stopped playing, and never bought Fable 2.

I dont think Fable and Fable 2 were aimed to a more "mature" audience like Dragon Age is. I think they were meant to be taken as a laugh.

If the head of Lionhead billed it as an "RPG to end all RPGs" he was blatantly lying. Its an action RPG hybrid.

Aimed mostly towards the "family" type.

I much preferred the PC version of Fable; I found the controls were much easier and you could down load a mod that toned down the scarring and inexplicable aging your character sufferred which was the only things about Fable Xbox I really didnt like.

And with Fable 2 I found it much easier and much more fun to play. My only gripe with that one was it got a bit repetitive with some of the quests/side quests. And NPCs looks and voices. I think however Fable 2 was more telling a tale than playing a game much like Dragon Age is.

I think if you take the games with a pinch of salt. As a non serious RPG, then you will enjoy both games.

If you go into it expecting a serious or mature RPG then you are going to be dissapointed, or outright hate it.

I just couldnt understand given how much i enjoyed both games (putting aside minor gripes about them) the seemingly irrational hatred ive seen displayed on these boards for both games.

It surprised me honestly.

Final Fantasy, or Oblivion/Fallout 3 I could understand. But Fable? Nope.

lol.

From what I've seen, they thought it was too geared for kids so they threw in the bordello in Lost Chapters and the more mature sexual options in 2.

I've only played the first one, but I had fun playing it. It's a fun little action RPG, but not among my faves.

I haven't played Fable 2, but I dislike Fable because it doesn't reward (and in fact punishes) neutral gameplay.

Well im glad to see im not the only one on here who liked Fable and Fable 2. For what they were I mean.

Granted both games fell short on their promises, but if you ignore that and take them on their merits? I think they r both well fun.

I have never understood playing a game with polarized positions only to try and go neutral.  It's kind of like watching Die Hard and wondering why Bruce Willis didn't just go and sit quietly with the chauffer until help arrived.

I didn't really pay attention to the pre-game hype for 1, honestly.  It's not about not living up to said hype, for me, it's just that Fable wasn't up my alley.  I'm all for less serious games - I like the Pokemon games for goodness sake. :)  Fable just wasn't something I enjoyed for various reasons, is all.

They only time I get to "hatin' " is when people point to some element of Fable they liked and DEMAND that this element MUST be in all future games (hair styling, say, or scarring or aging).  Different games have different emphasis, which means they will prioritize some features over others.  I'm sure not going to suggest Bioware's next RPG have the ability for me to play a ranger rhat can capture, train, and level up different animals they find in the wilds and take them to an arena for glory and money.  Frankly, because in a more realistic setting and approach it would feel....icky.  Heh.

Well yes.

Only Oblivion and Fallout 3 had the potential to be THE ULTIMATE RPG in my opinion, and both fell very short unfortunately.

I must say that i never knew that Fable was advertised as the ultimate rpg before someone mentioned it in this thread.

I love how the OP asks a question like, "How can people hate Fable 1 and 2?" and then finishes by hating on Fallout 3.

Lol.

I dont hate Fallout 3 nor was I hating on it. I was simply acknowledging that its a game that imo better deserves some of the vitriol ive seen reserved by some members of these forums for Fable.

I actually quite like Fallout 3. At least game play wise its quite fun.

And I was asking why because I honestly dont see what the hate is all about. Cos I genuinely want to know.

Fable 2 did suck. It was too short, barely enough quests and only silver keys and stone gargoyles to keep you interested? Oh and the demon doors. The end of Fable 2... was utterly monstrous, hideous, an abomination!

The choices were abysmal and just the way the end of the game actually played out.

Fallout 3 story is just as bad but atleast you get an excellent sand box world to explore,

Well, neutral gameplay in a good-and-evil game provides a challenge, which can be fun.  With that said, I didn't try to go neutral.  I played both ends of the spectrum, but I shouldn't be forced to play either.

Fable told me that my choices would have a big impact on my gameplay, but the game doesn't take into account that refusing to take sides can have a far greater impact than going all-out for good or evil.  Inaction is often action, and (at least according to my beliefs), there is no universal code of "right."  There's only the right choice for right now.  I like games that at least acknowledge that.

Well, I liked Fable 1 for what it was, but the game just didn't want me coming back. The ending was a giant kick in the balls and I played over half the game as a scarred-up old grandpa and I couldn't play a female if I had even wanted to.

It fell a bit short of what I had wanted when I got it and when I heard about the "hype" before, wow. If I came expecting what Molyneux promised, I'd be nerd-raging so hard.

Also, be wary of Project Natal.

Sand box worlds are well named. You're given a pile of sand and have to pretend that it is actually interesting.

There is alot of interesting things in the FO3 world though. They put alot of effort into it, shame that the story sucks though. 150+ hour game time on a first play through ain't bad.

Well to be fair I'm generalising based off other Sand box games, as I haven't actually played Fallout 3. But I think the lack of focus in Bethseda's games is a serious design flaw.

Also I think length is the worst way to measure the quality of a game.

It's true that Fallout 3 kinda forces you to make your own fun, unlike the other Fallouts. It has good elements, but it's not as much concentrated with fun as a GTA or Saints Row game might be.

I am so looking forward to what Fallout: New Vegas will be like.

I dont agree that the Fable 2 ending was "awful".

It just wasnt what anyone was expecting. Usually when you reach the end of an RPG you have "Teh Ultimate Final Battel!!!!!" with the big bad and with Fable 2 after all the build up in game the end does kinda flop about like a wet trout.

The thing is I think a lot of people misunderstood the kind of enemy Lucien is.

After all the bad things he does to the world and the hero personally a lot of people I think were probably foaming at the mouth for a good go at him.

And you dont really get that.

But I think he is a Doctor Moriarty type arch enemy. Is evil but would never like to get his hands dirty actually doing evil himself.

I fot it was kind of refreshing to have a different baddie/unusual ending.

Tho I cant say it didnt leave me dissapointed. But only because I had no one at the end. I was all alone.

I think that the biggest thing is the huge disparity between what they promise and what you get.

I personally enjoyed Fable, although I didn't care for Fable 2. It was a good game, just very short and repetitive. For a game that promised the moon and the stars, what it delivered was thoroughly average.
