Im sure some people enjoy the sort of game fable and fable 2 are, but when they are being marketed as RPG's its just a little silly. As RPG's they are just a joke and in my opinion anyway they are probably in the top 10 of worst games ever made.
Whats with the Fable/Fable 2 hate?

See that sort of comment is what im talking about Few87.
Vitriolic comments that they are "horrible horrible games" with absolutely no reason for the comment. Some of the things ive seen said about Fable seem to be a bit random to be honest.
Nothing at all to back up any of the statements. Yikes.

I liked the Fable games. They were fun. They might make my top one hundred favourite games... maybe...

I wouldn't call Fable or Fable 2 horrible, but I would call them supremely mediocre and uninteresting. The writing is sub-par, the dialog is not catchy, and the action is relatively shallow. Indeed, even though there is supposed to be a sense of build to your abilities, it feels awkward and paced poorly, certainly more poorly than the leveling in a standard RPG, or even a great adventure game like Zelda. Combine that with a lackluster story and the game has problems. I played both, could not get into either. Meanwhile, I've done multiple playthroughs of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Zelda Twilight Princess, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, the list goes on. When there are so many great games to play, why would I spend time on a mediocre one?
As for Fallout 3. Ugh. So disappointing. It might be that I'm just FPS stupid, but I really didn't like that game, and this is even though I was supremely interested in the setting. I like Post-Apoc and I live in Washington DC. Yet, the writing really let me down. I liked Oblivion, though the main quest wa a serious let down, many of the sidequests were well written and fun. Still, Fallout 3 upset me. I will have to try the original 2 sometime to see if they are any good, because i do like post-apocalyptic settings.
And I agree, total sandbox gaming is meh. Games need focus to really excel.
