I just bought the game, but before playing through I was thinking I would get a few of the DLCs. So I was wondering which ones are worth the money or worth getting, (maybe rate them best to worst) and which ones I should get first.

I didn't think so. I bought Mark of the Assassin and it cost like 10 dollars. For 10 dollars I just got a little side story - Tallis doesn't remain in your party when you return to normal game play. Some items cross over, but even toward the end of Act 3, they are still weaker than the items you can get from regular gameplay. It was nice to gain additional experience and level my character up a bit more before the final battle in the game, but it probably didn't make that big of a difference. And given how rushed/short DA2 is, somehow Bioware duped people into paying extra for content that they could have just put in the game to begin with. :/

Do you have the black emporium? That's nice for dog. I found Legacy to be the most fun. The exiled prince has a nice shield and knife in it. and mark of the Assassin is also fun.

I liked all the DLC for DA2 and wish there were more.

Oh, and I got alot of hours out of the game the longest was 82 hours so I don't think it is short.

Legacy is generally regarded as the best of the bunch because of its decent story and because it contains some major revelations about the Dragon Age universe.

The Exiled Prince gives you a new archer companion, a fair chunk of extra gold spread out over all three acts and some decent equipment.

MotA is the best in terms of comedic value, but the popular opinion on these boards (not mine) is that the temporary companion Tallis sucks.

The Black Emporium/Dog are nice to have but largely disposable. The dog's combat effectiveness is limited and the Black Emporium's gear is good but not must-have. (Most people appreciate the mirror that lets you change Hawke's appearance at will, though.)

DA2 is a little bit Marmite (you either love it or you hate it) so honestly I'd recommend starting the game before buying any of them. See if it's to your taste first. If it is, then, get MoTA and Legacy (both are excellent), maybe the Exiled Prince if you fancy an extra Rogue in the party. Both MoTA and Legacy are little self-contained adventures which slot right into the game at any point and imho work best if you play them in Act 2 or early in 3, so you're not losing anything by not having them right from the beginning.

If you're the type who might well do multiple runthroughs of DA2 (if you like it) then I'd really reccomend getting both MoTA *AND* Legacy before you finish your first run though, because they both have hefty chunks of unique companion banter /and/ romance banter, so if you want to experience all of it you're going to have to take multiple Hawkes through them.

Yes, they are worth it. However, don't expect them to knock your socks off.

Legacy has an interesting concept that furthers the story behind Hawke and his/her father, Malcolm. It gives you some background to their story, which can change depending on the class you chose (partly because of this next sentence --->).You get Carver/Bethany back in your party for the duration, and if done in Act 2 or 3, is a nice change from having the usual companions with you (Varric always joins you). There's even a secret boss, something no oft found in western games, but he's probably the hardest boss in the entire game, another thing you might find in a Japanese game like Final Fantasy.

Mark of the Assassin is a nice change of pace, from the contant back and forth between areas, and the heavily combat focused quests. You also get a new companion in Tallis. Speaking of new companions, Sebastian from The Exiled Prince, he isn't the most interesting companion, or even the most useful, but he gives FemHawkes (only) an extra option for romance. Also you get more experience by the end of the game. The highest possible level in DA2 is something like level 33 (most people will only get to 25/26 even with all the DLC, however).

The Black Emporium is a must DLC, because you can change stats, spells/talents for everyone and it offers you the chance to get excellent equipment (though the buyable ones are very expensive), and you can change your appearance. The Item Packs also give you free, great equipment that can level with you (it all looks half-awesome, yet half-ugly, at the same time).

You should Play the game first. The dlc isn't worth it if you don't like the game

I liked Mark of the Assassin. I thought that the writing for the companion pair I took with me (Merrill + Isabella) was quite excellent. Replayed it later with Bethany and Aveline, and I have to say that my first choise was much better. Merrill and Isabella have some great banter in the main game too, so it's not surpricing that they worked so well for MotA.

I did not enjoy DA2 core game itself much but I bought all the DLC and personally I would say from best to worst imho goes MotA>Legacy>Exiled Prince>Emporium. Prince only beats Emp because it's story as opposed for the most part item related DLC even though Makers Wish item is very handy for the game which is in Emp DLC..

But I agree with the others, play the game and if you think it is okay as in do not "hate" it then consider buying the DLC. If you hate it then maybe skip the DLC but coming from someone who did not enjoy the main game I found the DLC were more enjoyable than the actual main title itself meaning MotA and Legacy. If you have it for the PC, there is also mods such as item sets and re-textures and meshes for NPC's and characters in the game. Vast amounts of new customisation character wise appearence mods too. Well worth looking into if have for PC plus many graphics improving world texture mods.

Legacy = Yes. Good story and background.
Mark of the Assassin = Maybe - No. Just a boring DLC
Sebastian = Yes. Good character and a BIG confrontation at the end.

I only played the Legacy dlc and pretty much enjoyed it for a DA2 standpoint. However, if you didn't like The Fade or the Deep Roads quests in Origins, you might want to pass this up because it's pretty long. About 2-3 hours long.

Both Legacy and MOTA are excellent quality and I highly recommend you get them. I enjoyed both of them a lot, more than DA2.

They all add to the lore and the context, so yeah. The Items DLCs are a bonus and they're fun to have around when you just want to have new stuff.

I have a question about item packs. Yeah, yeah, is a new low for BioWare, but if I have spare points, should I buy them? Are they any different, then standard items in a game, better?

Actually, their stats are pretty good and add a lot into the strategy, depending your playing style and how you control your characters. So instead of listening to those angry "no"s, look on Youtube for item dlc videos and decide if you want them or not. Most of them have unique looks and it changes from what you get in-game.
