So after I sided with the rich guy in the forest, wanting a peaceful talk with the druids, my reputation is set to 10. :(

This never happened with my lawful good preist character. Also, I didn't notice my reputation being set to 10 when the battle started, but when I quit, and reloaded in the Cloakwood forest, my reputation wasn't 20 anymore. :|

How do I set it back up to 20?

To loss 10 rep you killed someone good... did you wait for the druids to turn on you before attacking them?

Yes. Was I supposed to wait until their rings turned blue?
I did wait until they said they would kill us.

You don't lose rep for killing the druids...did you kill Aldeth by chance? To get your rep up, you can do various quests, but the easiest way is to donate gold at temples...500 gold at a time can get you to 18 rep (500 gold for each rep point)

I don't think I killed Aldeth. Unless it was somehow by accident. Maybe an accidental targeting spell?

There are a few exceptions, but the general rule is that killing something that has turned red before you attack will not cost you reputation. If you attack while blue it depends on whether the game treats them as an innocent or not - this particular encounter is difficult as it's not easy to know from the discussion which side is in the 'right'.

My last journal entry says I agreed to help him kill a band of savages. I remember him saying thank you, and then saying goodbye and leaving. I don't think he died.

It's not quite as simple as that. The first few points above 10 onlly cost 100gold
The next few 200 gold and so on.

There is a sliding scale the higher your rep, the higher the cost per point.

Therefore buy the first few points that are cheap and then do a few things to raise your rep, not the other way round.

Hmm, are you sure you never tried attacking an innocent bystander? That once happened to me and I suddenly got a HUGE drop in popularity. On a side note: watch out if you've got any evil aligned characters in your party. They prefer to rather be notorious and might threaten to leave your party or turn onto you. :P

No. Never attacked an innocent bystander. Not even "Noober". (Which, humerously, didn't lose me any reputation points once I shot him with a sling via Jaheira, with another character.)
