Getting there as teh saying goes, is half the fun.
Besides whatever happened to the whole "Take Back Earth" thing? wasn't that a "destination"?
It's not about "Taking Back Earth" per se... It's about getting to Earth. Like, back to the basics... Or something...

The game keeps pushing you towards a goal and place rather than focusing on the here and now,
Stop the reapers and take back earth. Anything else that happens throughout the game does not resolve those issues.
The destination or ending is key to this story, without that this story can't complete.
If they wanted to do a game about the journey and not the destination then the game would have top be significantly different to what we got so that it could work. I think i would have preferred this kind of game personally.
The way ME3 is right now it keeps asking you to wait for the ending, When you finally get there it feels like it invalidates everything else you did in the game.
To use an analogy
Imagine an empty canvas waiting to be painted
A game about the journey would paint the outline for you as went along, you can view it now and again even make some modifications here and there but for the most part you are an observer viewing a pattern being drawn.
An ending to this game would be providing the player with a choice on how to color this painting, When you finally step back and take a look you get a clear sense of whats happened or what can happen based on whats been drawn
ME3 asks the player to help draw the painting, it draws the outlines and asks you to participate in the coloring process as well as make modifications from the start.
The ending then asks you which color you would to color the whole painting, this completely ignores whatever colors you already picked, one or more colors may coincide with some of your previously chosen colors but it ignores others. regardless of your choice the paint bucket is thrown at the paining in the ending. when you finally step back and look at it you have no idea what exactly you have been viewing/drawing all this time. The intricate outlines are meaningless as the paint is splattered everywhere and the colors you used earlier are a moot point now as they never really mattered in the end.

ME3 has been out for 3 months and is currently available for $28 used at Gamestop.
By contrast, Skyrim has been out for 7 months and is currently available for $50 used at Gamestop.
That should give you an idea of how gamers have received each game.
Skyrim is a great example because not only has it held its value since release, it did so without any gimmicks. No day one character you have to pay extra for if you buy used, no online pass if you buy used, no day one DLC, or shoehorned multiplayer/co-op.
Just a solid game with a proper development schedule. A style of game EA didn't believe was even viable any longer and here we are 7 months later on the eve a $20 expansion that is going to be almost as huge as the game.
Whether you love Skyrim or hate it no one can deny that this is how you release a game, sell tons, and keep your fans on board for DLC.

Skyrim has flaws, glitches, and even annoying fetch missions that become tedious. HOWEVER, even with its flaws, I rate it one of the top RPGs of this decade thus far. Sure the main plot lacked some holes here and there, but it had a decent ending that concluded the key points Skyrim's main quest was attempting to achieve. I do not feel Skyrim's main plot was a complete failure and it was an epic journey (you go into the Afterlife) and had an epic conclusion that left you feeling bad arse.
EA has to use gimmiks to win.
Now my question, is the ending meant to be a farce because if the ending actually ended the game does it mean the multiplayer game has zero effect? WAIT! Why are we still playing the multiplayer game if NOTHING you mdo actually matters? War assests mean nothing!
