i'm not sure if this is an official quest or not. I got a companion quest from an npc outside of the chantry in the town you recruit sten in. It's called rescue madan morrell. doesn't say what companion it is for it just shows up under the category companions in the quest journal. would anyone know what companion this might be for?

I've never run into it, so we might safely conclude that it is unofficial, and probably either for an unofficial companion (possibly the NPC) or in the wrong folder.
(It might have been official DLC, except that I've never even heard of it before.)

Its definitely not official dlc. I have never run into it before either, sure its not a mod or something?

it's probably from karma's companions for dragon age origins. i just wish it would tell me what companion the quest is for
